  • uh, can you please explain to me everything????

    i can't quite understand it...

i just really really need it for our school project....

    Thanks...

    :D

    :))

  • Why are they wasting coke?! Give it to me!

  • moi je vais peter le coca je vais faire une video demain le mercredi 25 mai 2011

  • Try it in your stomach!!! See what happens ;)

  • oh i love this ,i wanna try it at home!!! woooohhhoooohhhhowooooohoooo!! : D

  • this is like sooooo damn awesome!! woooohooooohooo!!

i am gonna try this at home!!:D

  • I'll tell you, you never waste a day if you learn something important! Nice job boys!

  • @Sensu126 try 2 liter diet coke and mint mentos

  • People actually spend time explaining a prank?!?! Wow, US universities really got so free time on their hands!

  • @Orilium ..."There is a single light of science and to brighten it anywhere, is to brighten it everywhere."

  • you know - theoretically, you could find a way to do this with ordinary water, create a physical substance whose surface texture features react with the hydrogen and oxygen in water to extract them by this mechanical process without having to use electricity. The problem is, some nut would throw a handful of them in the ocean and kill us all in the ten years it would take to convert the ocean to hydrogen, oxygen and big piles of salt. Forget I brought it up.

  • Mythbusters did this. its actually Liquid Gum Arabic and carbonation. They got something with compressed pores and it shot up to 40 some feet.

  • you know... there may be a new source of power in this for cars and such, something like a steam engine. If the rough surface alone and not the sugar brings the CO2 out, then you don't need the sugar. All you need is a scuba tank full of Perrier or other naturally occurring sparkling water, and a wafer with the Mentos surface texture. Throw the wafer in the tank and you get a free tank of compressed gas. Use the compressed gas via regulator to power your pistons... viola!

  • There is no such thing as naturally occurring sparkling water... it is all man made. You have to expend energy to get the CO2 to dissolve in the water, so you would not be gaining any energy. There is no such thing as "free" energy.

  • Gibbs disagrees with you.

  • mythbusters did it...and explained it

  • completely ruined eating mentos and diet coke for me

  • whats gonna happen if i do that

  • Thanks for making something fun boring.

  • true that!!!!!

  • Nobody's making you watch it.

  • stop the hate >:[

  • Okay, now, if you please, explain why Diet Coke and wasabe (from sushi bars) produces the same effect.

  • stupid geeks

  • your body will disolve the mentos and dilute the diet coke before they have time to react in your stomach, no reaction goes on

  • What would happen if you eat mentos, and then drink coke?

  • just look at other youtube vids for that

  • lol @ haillebug's answer, "its just that the chemicles go all fizzy when u combine then..." wow, real textbook material, eh buddy? how could those nerds not get that?!

  • haha

  • mythbuster already did this they said it was the surface of the mentos made the co2 in the coke turn into bubbles or someting like that

  • yeah, i seen tht episode 2

  • put as many mentos as you wish in a "capsule" like aspirin it will disolve after it sinks thus giving you the desired affect . your welcome . try a fuse also .

  • Whew! Now I'll definitely sleep better tonight...

  • ok its just that the chemicles go all fizzy when u combine then...

  • informative but could you cut off the nerd/geek talk

  • What are mentos?

  • mint candies

  • Cheers - don't think they sell them in the UK

  • they r not that good anyways...so ya arent missing much...lol

  • lol. I think there's quite a few things that the U.S. sell that aren't sold in the U.K. and the other way round

  • yeah they do im sure

  • I'll have to have a look around lol

  • ok so I put mentos in the coke right after I open the bottle and I didn't shake the bottle, I put 3 mint in it and it just blast like 15 centermeater

  • was it diet coke or just coke?

  • Diet Coke

  • I put it in coke and diet coke both in it too and yes diet is higher that coke but it is just like 60 cemtermeter high

  • DO NOT!

Eat 3 mentos and drink diet coke. You will puke so much, all secrets of the universe will be revealed in 0,0001 second.

  • mint

  • woo which one works the best? mint or fruit?

  • concentrate your efforts on solving the AIDS or cancer problems

  • dude your totaly right!!! hahahhaaahahhaaa that was the funniest shit

  • This research could be used as a method to cause cancer cells to explode.

    Happy?

  • mate you are a retard

  • No good sir, it is you who is the retard.

Every discovery is useful for something, you obviously have no clue about this.

Sad that you are 27 and don't even realise this.

  • your right, discovery = happiness, but cancer is more important

  • @igib2635 WTF?? So we should stop all research until AIDS or cancer problems are solved?

  • someone told me that his friend ate mentos before drinking coke and then his belly went big...i dunno what happened to that friend...and im not sure if he was telling the truth or not..

  • omg yeah dude i totally agree somebody say something im fking scared no joke

"what if i bought coke and mentos from the grocers what will happen if i eat it "

  • what if i bought coke and mentos from the grocers what will happen if i eat it

  • a guy with accent english, explaining stuff in his home with his mic, most of other videos just are pictures and text

  • Excellent, this confirm what we've been telling people at our science centre!

  • lol put the mento in yo mouth and drink diet coke! that would be fun

  • These kids wasting food, yes, soda is a form of food.Kids should donate $1.00 to a fund for the unborn or murdered babies (by a teenager'mommy'send the money in their behalf and help our babies to be able to live. And not found on the street, put inter a dumpster or killed or left for dead. What is wrong with 'this' picture? And I used to be aproudAmerican.I'mdisabled, butI would be the 1st person to start this fund to help these'child mothers'to grow up and not play games with thier precious babies

  • ok, captain bringdown, why do you find the need to say this? especially on a video like this. i could find a lot of uses for the money, but i dont go preaching it on videos.

  • Damn it, I thought God did it!!!!

    :(

  • lol

  • Not funny :'(

All my beliefs are gone because of a freaking Mentos...I am not buying those Satan's candys anymore!!!

  • ...

Lets drop steel pine cones in coke.

  • whoever hasnt seen this on mythbusters has problems. note the name of this user "new"scientistvideo.... i beg to differ

  • I think you completely missed the point. It is not what happens but "why?". And BTW, New Scientist is actually an international magizine detailing science achievements around the world and this is apparently their youtube account.

  • mythbusters explained this and exploited it! o.m.g. they used rock salt to show this. they even did an animation. think before u send piontless comments

  • Ok, I finally saw the Mythbusters segment on youtube. Mythbusters produced a segment that gave more information to the public... yes. But there is a vast lack of information and a vast set of experiments you can do to see how much, and how far and what causes X to do better than Y. I would wager the science actually done here (and all not shown, BTW) further proves and gives certain numerical bounds to the "nucleation" theory that Mythbusters discuss.

Like I said, you missed the point.

  • Rather, a better way to put it:

    1. Mythbusters established primary causes.

    2. the science purported in this video investigates how exactly the nucleation occurs and what porosity is needed for the reaction occur the quickest.

Great Science... I dunno. Maybe Ignoble awards worthy. Maybe that's their goal? Heh.

  • mythbusters already explained it, and its a much more through explanation than this

  • BORING.

  • so basically they stole this bit from mythbusters

  • And mythbusters stole it from a viral video.

    Wow, we've accomplished so much.

  • this is based of a scientific explanation Mythbusters just showed more of how to make it higher. As far as I've seen this video is the first scientific explanation of this reaction of Mentos and Diet Coke. Mythbusters didn't explain it quite as well anyway.

  • they did the same expirment on mythbusters , came to the exact conclusion!

  • mythbusters already explained it, and its a much more through explanation then this

  • thorough not through learn to spell

  • well we got the idea

  • now now children, play nicely...

  • There are several parts at work, though from what I understand surface tension plays the biggest part in speeding the reaction up.

  • no they wont. youre an imbusil.

  • "youre an imbusil." - tjd07x

    You spelled "imbecile" wrong. o.o

  • I think the comment by 69bonzo69 is a joke.

  • To everyone who's pointing out that Mythbusters already tackled this: yes, we know, we all watch it, but the point is that these guys have done a more thorough job and investigated several additional aspects of the reaction.

  • For all of you saying that this was proven on mythbuster, are only partially correct. All mythbusters said was that it was the rough-ness of the mentos that caused the fountains. Also mythbusters is not a place of research, its only a show.

  • Mythbusters did this and explained it better than you did, with animations aswell...

  • Interesting!

  • they said what caused it on myth busters a long time ago

  • So what happens if you down a bunch of coke and then swallow a Mentos immediately after that?

  • Renetto have a video of this. You can't swallow. By the time you put them in your mouth, they will burst

  • watch mythbusters

  • oh yeah! we do that tomorrow in science class for the last day of school.

  • aspartame is poison!

  • whats so fun about watching diet coke go to waste?

  • mythbusters already did it

  • mythbusters did that a long time ago...

  • it works with any type of coke... Not just diet... People use diet because it has no sugar, so it won't be sticky if it gets all over you.

  • and mythbusters proved that was the most effective.

  • Clearly Adam and Jayme are omnipowerful, sentient beings capable of enslaving the world at whim.

  • mythbusters explained this...it was nucleation on the mentos's surface, the c02, and some of the other chemicals...

  • Mythbusters did this a long time ago and came up with the same

  • i tought the myth busters proved all

  • So how's that cure for cancer coming?

  • I saw this in Mythbusters.

    cOLD!

  • I'm pretty sure I saw a Mythbusters episode like a Year ago explaining all this....

  • Well done!

  • mythbusters explained it much better

  • yea cool...pretty sure this was common knowledge though for quite some time

  • I actually find these interesting, thank you. And to all those of you who are being sarcastic about nobody watching mythbusters, you're right, I DON'T watch mythbusters. Hah.

  • Well I did ascertain one new fact from watching this video. And that is the producer of this video does not watch myth busters.

  • The Goverment spent 4,862,397,211.23 to figure this out.

  • dude... please think before u post u moron...

  • this might of been interesting if everyone didnt know this.... come on... even myth busters did this 2 years ago

  • my life is now complete

  • knew*

  • WOW COOOL to bad everyone new this 10 years ago *yawn

  • omg I almost care

  • lol

  • Mythbusters explained this with fun blueprint graphics! (And the announcer didn't sound bored out of his mind)

  • must be a lot of work puting the see profile thing on almost every video. i believe in you and wish you luck

  • Looks like i was beat on the mythbusters kick..

  • ok the factors affecting the vigour with which the coke spurts out was examined. But what about the actual chemical reaction that causes the carbon dioxide to form? any details on that?

  • Mythbusters did it 1st! This is the most boring video ive seen. You should get a new announcer or something because its his fault the video is so boring. But other than that its very informative! :]

  • scientists up to important work

  • myth busters beat you to it..:D

  • The copied the mythbusters...or was it the other way around?

    BRING BACK SANDRINE!

  • mythbusters first

  • Lmao! Knowing this is vital to national security! xD

  • lmfao....they actually did electron microscopy on a mentos!!!

  • LOL!

  • If you wanna see some REALLY crazy science. Put 4 cellphones in a circle with there antennas towards the center. Put a few kernals of popcorn in the center. Now call all four phones at the same time.

I'll never put another one of those POS's next to my head again.

Let's see Mythbusters do that one.

  • Film it and put it on YT.

  • Yeap the mithbusters have already prove that

  • It has been proven. O,o Old news.

  • yes MYTHBUSTERS *shakes fist*

  • newscientist doesn't watch Mythbusters!

  • I confess myself disappointed. Myth Busters had already figured it out months ago.

  • I agree, Ive seen it.

  • So am I. Nothing new here - plus, Mythbusters were able to explain why it doesn't work properly with normal coke.

  • Yeah, you would think someone in that class has seen it...talk about wasting time.

  • lazy college scientists

  • Sweet fresh science :P

  • u need to do more.

    it wasn't brief
