Thats why harddrives show up as 500,000,000 bytes if you have a 500Gb HDD, and then windows uses base 2 to calculate its close-enough version of gigabyte, and divides.

I am not too familar with Samsung drives, but I almost always buy Western Digitals and not one has ever had so much as a single bad sector. They are also top performers.

That said, every Seagate drive I have ever bought has died on me. Also, whenver I see a computer with a bad drive, it's almost always a Seagate or Maxtor.

I have had 2 WD drives that I used to transport data... beat the shit out of them but both of them still work to this very day.

Seagate is OK (I have a seagate portable harddrive for 3 years and never had a problem). Maxtor is crap, I had a 10 GB Maxtor XBOX harddrive and it died after a year.

It was acquired by Seagate in 2006, my 1 TB drive is from before Seagate acquired Maxtor. Plus my drive is not constantly running, I only plug it in when I want to back stuff up.

I have self a Westerd digital caviar but an ATA drive with 80 gigs.You hear really NOTHING from ist , just wenn you turn it on it makes a speeding up sound but then you just hear sometimes a litle klick when she is writing (I have a fully sound islotatet case with watercooling, that hdd is really perfect for something like this!)
