4th generation? This isn't a fourth Generation tank, neither is AMX-56 Leclerc, Challenger 2, Leoaprd2, or M1 Abrams. Those are all Generation 3. You base a tank's generation off the technology it equips, such as APS, composite armour, modern FCS, etc etc etc.
It has APS, composite armor on tower, radiation measurement tools, different engine, transmition, stabilized gun, etc. What reamains is chasis, basic hull, turret and gun (125mm)

It is very good to have national made military goods in your own country, so that you are more independent, besides you can always add some foreign made stuff to complement what you can't make anyway, so it is a good choice. The Czech is T-72 is pratical and reliable, and relatively cheap compared to other MBT's which are ridiculously expensive, so it is good for a small country to mass-produce.

Keď sa ČSR rozdelovalo tak sa delilo 2 ku 1 takže nás "pán" Havel vybrakovl ako samoobsluhu, pobral najlpšie stroje zo Slovenska do Čiech a tu na videu máte výsledok tých strojov. Martinské stroje ktoré kedysi u nás robili tanky T-72. Teraz na slovenských strojoch robia Češi. Presne ako TAZ dodávka. Po rozdelení ju odkúpila Škoda, stroje šli do Čiech a nejaký čas sa robila tam.
Mozna te to prekvapi, ale vojenska technika se delila podle poctu obyvatel, tzn. pomer 2:1 je v poradku. Teda bylo i par vyjimek - pro Migy 29 byl ten pomer z nejakeho zvlastniho duvodu 1:1, slovensko tez dostalo jediny system S300.
Martinske "stroje" jsou stale v Martine, v CR se tanky totiz nevyrabi, jen byly ve VOP modernizovany.
Hadam ze sis nekde precetl ze cesi si nechali lepsi "stroje" (coz byla v nekterych pripadech skutecne pravda) a chybne si to vylozil jako stroje vyrobni :)
Z akého to máš zdroja? Rád by som si to ozaj prečítal. Možno že som ozaj pochybil. Vždy sa rozprávalo o tom, že z Martina sa stroje odniesli do Česka.
Tak ono se toho vypravelo a stale vypravi hodne, to ale jeste neznamena, ze je to vsechno pravda :) Faktem je, ze v CR se tanky proste nevyrabi a vyrabet nebudou, modernizace probehla na starsich, v Martine vyrobenych kusech, ktere pripadly CR v ramci deleni federace. Dokonce to vypada, ze byly pouzity dve ruzne verze (M a M1) Pokud nekdo opravdu z Martina ty vyrobni stroje pred rozpadem odvezl (o cemz uprimne pochybuju), tak skoncily nejspis ve srotu.

Buy a new tank, retrain every tank crew in the use of the new tank, that costs a lot of money. Plus, you have to take into account all the new equipment you would have to buy to service your new tank. It would cost more in the long run.

JJ, to bylo v době, kdy ještě plánovali přes 300ks. Ikdyby jsi počítal s kurzem 35CZK/UDS tak se při finálních počtech vyplatilo koupit nové stroje.
A o náhradních dílech, to už je ohrané. Vždyť z tanku zbylo jen hrubé železo, vše ostatní je nové a muselo ze zavádět v podobě náhradních dílů. A trampoty s vývojem systému řízení palby, který vyvíjela italská společnost poprvé ve své historii a muselo to několikrát předělávat vše již jen dokresluje.

What is this nonsense? The T-72 M4 is a fine tank, but there days it is roughly equivalent to the upgraded M60E3 Pattons the US National Guard uses. A T-72 would win precisely zero times out of a hundred against an M1A1 or A2. Chobham armor is already a full generation beyond the 125mm's effectiveness and their accurate range is half that of the M1. Saddam Hussein fielded his "Lion of Babylon" upgraded T-72 in the first and second Iraq wars. They got badly mauled every time they engaged the M1.
The main difference between old russian T-72 and this czech renovation is upgrade performance by english COndor motor with automatic american transmission Alisson, upgrade armor to standart NATO and new optics and laseres technologies which make from old T-72 new machine comparable to other modern NATO tank,

Most of iraqi tanks were T-55, T-62, and chinese 59 I think, they had some T-72 but very little and USA have total control on air, and better trained crew, one on one M1A1 and T-72 whit equal trained crew, and same support , M1A1 going to sweat a lot.
cookiemonster, I have a correction, it is not 500mm thick armour, this is an RHAe figure, the Initial Soviet T-72 had approx. 350mm KE RHAe frontal armour protection. Also, I believe the initial model of the M1 Abrams did not have DU meshing and its frontal armour protection was not very impressive at 400mm KE RHAe (compared to the T-80B which had KE RHAe approaching 500mm)
However, the M1A1 upgrade was soon developed and the armour protection improved to 500mm RHAe, well beyond the early T-72 and head to head with the T-80B. By the late 1980's both the M1A1 and the T-80 recieved major armour upgrades, the M1A1 was fitted with DU armour mesh and the T-80 recieved several upgrades one of which was the introduction of the K5 armour, the model was called T-80U.
The M1A1 protected with DU armour mesh upgrade now had a frontal armour protection of approx. 700mm RHAe and the incorporation of the K5 ERArmour gave the T-80U an armour protection of 800mm KE RHAe, the T-72 also recieved an upgrade which brought it up to 550mm KE RHAe (still behind both the M1A1 and the T-80U). Armour leaped forward again with the introduction of the M1A2 and the T-90.

It is very good to have national made military goods in your own country, so that you are more independent, besides you can always add some foreign made stuff to complement what you can't make anyway, so it is a good choice. The Czech is T-72 is pratical and reliable, and relatively cheap compared to other MBT's which are ridiculously expensive, so it is good for a small country to mass-produce.

Keď sa ČSR rozdelovalo tak sa delilo 2 ku 1 takže nás "pán" Havel vybrakovl ako samoobsluhu, pobral najlpšie stroje zo Slovenska do Čiech a tu na videu máte výsledok tých strojov. Martinské stroje ktoré kedysi u nás robili tanky T-72. Teraz na slovenských strojoch robia Češi. Presne ako TAZ dodávka. Po rozdelení ju odkúpila Škoda, stroje šli do Čiech a nejaký čas sa robila tam.

Mozna te to prekvapi, ale vojenska technika se delila podle poctu obyvatel, tzn. pomer 2:1 je v poradku. Teda bylo i par vyjimek - pro Migy 29 byl ten pomer z nejakeho zvlastniho duvodu 1:1, slovensko tez dostalo jediny system S300.
Martinske "stroje" jsou stale v Martine, v CR se tanky totiz nevyrabi, jen byly ve VOP modernizovany.
Hadam ze sis nekde precetl ze cesi si nechali lepsi "stroje" (coz byla v nekterych pripadech skutecne pravda) a chybne si to vylozil jako stroje vyrobni :)

Tak ono se toho vypravelo a stale vypravi hodne, to ale jeste neznamena, ze je to vsechno pravda :) Faktem je, ze v CR se tanky proste nevyrabi a vyrabet nebudou, modernizace probehla na starsich, v Martine vyrobenych kusech, ktere pripadly CR v ramci deleni federace. Dokonce to vypada, ze byly pouzity dve ruzne verze (M a M1) Pokud nekdo opravdu z Martina ty vyrobni stroje pred rozpadem odvezl (o cemz uprimne pochybuju), tak skoncily nejspis ve srotu.

OK this czech version is "upgraded" ,but its still T-72......... , I am pretty sure if Czech Republic wish to buy some NATO tanks ,they would get a chance to buy them.But leaders of country rather prefered putting plenty of money to upgrading old machine.

Cena se uvádí 150 milionů za prvních deset tanků a za kus a u zbylých 120 milionů za kus.
Za fiskální rok 99 uváděl Pentagon cenu M1A2 USD$6.21 million což je při kurzu 18CZK/USD = 111,78mil CZK.
Řekněme, že bychom M1A2 koupili o něco dráž než US ARMY a jsme na stejné ceně.........
Takhle se nakupuje v Armádě České republiky.

@cejkis Až na to, že česká národní banka uvádí kurz USD z toho roku cca 35Kč. A zavedení M1A2 by znamenalo další náklady, školení, náhradní součástky atd...

JJ, to bylo v době, kdy ještě plánovali přes 300ks. Ikdyby jsi počítal s kurzem 35CZK/UDS tak se při finálních počtech vyplatilo koupit nové stroje.
A o náhradních dílech, to už je ohrané. Vždyť z tanku zbylo jen hrubé železo, vše ostatní je nové a muselo ze zavádět v podobě náhradních dílů. A trampoty s vývojem systému řízení palby, který vyvíjela italská společnost poprvé ve své historii a muselo to několikrát předělávat vše již jen dokresluje.

Anyways waste of money for this kind of tank , czech republic dont need tanks why ??? If there will be a war since CZ is in NATO , then czech tanks will face a russian tanks ......and they will get slaughtered in first minutes of battle . T-80/90,MI-28/24,SU-25 tank destroyers so many there is ...i only try point out there is no chance for win.Czech army is only one big coruption and wasting of money.

You did not say in your previous comment that the latest aquisitions were connected with corruption and waste of money. You said that the Czech army is corrupted. You seem to be smart enough to distinguish between politicians, who make the decisions and soldiers who can not influence anything.

Of course not ,what i want is see czech soldiers in great machines ...... like czech pilots in F-15 / F-18 , Czech armored divison possess Tanks like Challenger , Abrams ....why not ??? Thats my point ...but all what i see is only a stupid buying or useless upgrading for lame weapons this is waste of money ,soldier in this game is only a tool / peon . What is this nonsense? The T-72 M4 is a fine tank, but there days it is roughly equivalent to the upgraded M60E3 Pattons the US National Guard uses. A T-72 would win precisely zero times out of a hundred against an M1A1 or A2. Chobham armor is already a full generation beyond the 125mm's effectiveness and their accurate range is half that of the M1. Saddam Hussein fielded his "Lion of Babylon" upgraded T-72 in the first and second Iraq wars. They got badly mauled every time they engaged the M1.

The main difference between old russian T-72 and this czech renovation is upgrade performance by english COndor motor with automatic american transmission Alisson, upgrade armor to standart NATO and new optics and laseres technologies which make from old T-72 new machine comparable to other modern NATO tank,

Thats why M1 Abrams in gulf war slaughter so many T-72 ??? Even IFV Bradley was capable with chain gun pierce through T-72 armor and destroy it.

Most of iraqi tanks were T-55, T-62, and chinese 59 I think, they had some T-72 but very little and USA have total control on air, and better trained crew, one on one M1A1 and T-72 whit equal trained crew, and same support , M1A1 going to sweat a lot.

cookiemonster, I have a correction, it is not 500mm thick armour, this is an RHAe figure, the Initial Soviet T-72 had approx. 350mm KE RHAe frontal armour protection. Also, I believe the initial model of the M1 Abrams did not have DU meshing and its frontal armour protection was not very impressive at 400mm KE RHAe (compared to the T-80B which had KE RHAe approaching 500mm)

However, the M1A1 upgrade was soon developed and the armour protection improved to 500mm RHAe, well beyond the early T-72 and head to head with the T-80B. By the late 1980's both the M1A1 and the T-80 recieved major armour upgrades, the M1A1 was fitted with DU armour mesh and the T-80 recieved several upgrades one of which was the introduction of the K5 armour, the model was called T-80U.

The M1A1 protected with DU armour mesh upgrade now had a frontal armour protection of approx. 700mm RHAe and the incorporation of the K5 ERArmour gave the T-80U an armour protection of 800mm KE RHAe, the T-72 also recieved an upgrade which brought it up to 550mm KE RHAe (still behind both the M1A1 and the T-80U). Armour leaped forward again with the introduction of the M1A2 and the T-90.
