i dont know if this is fun for the horse or not, it is hard to tell, but this used to be a huge thing in Atlantic City in the late 1880s to early 1990s. No horse was ever harmed doing it, but they stopped the practice due to animal cruelty. its pretty interesting, they did it from 60ft with a rider clinging onto the horse! They made a really great movie about it, called Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken. As for me, I will definitely stick to riding my horses!
(from a different video) Honestly, coming out of the water, he didn't seem pleased at all. Matter of fact, he looked a bit pissed. What horse would want to jump off of a ramp into a pool of cold water, in front of noisy, yelling people? Sure, there's a reward at the end, and he doesn't seem to be physically pushed into the water, but it just doesn't feel right, at all.
so we as humans are the only ones who could get a thrill out of diving? I remember the first time I dove and it was scary, but after that I really enjoyed it. Other animals cant do this (wow we really are superior) Horses also dont like to be ridden the first time either, but then... they get used to it (and maybe enjoy the human interaction). @HorseLoverHailey1 no that was his tail. There are lots of other vids of the same horse, one straight on. You can even see the guy who led him up walk away before he even gets to the top.

Now to those who say these horses should be able to enjoy their lives in the wild...wake up. There isnt a "wild" out there anymore for these horses to live in. In order for their species to survive in this human world, they must earn their keep. Sad yes, and while I disagree, and feel that when you bring a life in this world your responsible for its care til death. However I think its silly that people think that anything but a leisurly and work free life is cruelty! I have to work to live!
This horse is lucky, he has been taught to do something that is not likely to hurt him, that isnt too high, and the water is natural for a horse to swim in. He should be glad he can make money for his owners and pay his keep. If I wanted to live my life without paying my way people would call me a loser...I dont see why its cruel for a horse to have a job.
because he isn't a human, so he's not thinking of making money? That's very strange to say, you know? That "he's lucky he has a job". MOST animals don't have jobs because they .. shouldn't have to have them. They aren't expected to pay rent or buy their own food.. that was just a very odd statement and i'm not sure I understand it.
They have to find food/water/shelter dont they? thats their job in the wild. Kind of like a homeless person who sustains him/herself. A horse in a domestic situation has his food/water/shelter bills paid. If a person were in this situation and didnt work, we would call him a loser/freeloader. This horse is lucky he is capable of performing a feet that ensures his care in the future is a better way of saying what I said before.
What is the difference between teaching a dog to dive from a high platform or a Horse? We just look at the size of the animal and think that they would not like it, when actually horses like water and could easily be trained humanly to dive. I support the diving horses act 100 percent.
to all those saying people who are saying these people don't care about the animals health and they are only in it to make money, think.... People who breed your pleasure horses are only in it to make money, but that doesn' make them bad people. 2nd: typically (but not all) people who make a living off animals take great care of them. They want healthy, happy horses who will do thier job. Just like a trail, show, breeding, or race horse, or this. U don't know them, so cut them some slack.
That poor horse, thats not performing, if I go to one of those evnts im gonna get in the pool grab a rope and the horse tie the rope around the owners neck and get the horse to gallop off. Then the horse can show his true feelings, I bet the horse is to afraid to back off cause he'll be beat, stupid retards its so mean!
atleast its not a bull being ran down miles of roads, tortured by the spectators, until finally a man comes out and throws spikes in its back before its slaughtered.
before you over seas pricks start ripping on america, look at your own culture. and this hardly represents me, as an american, or my culture.
Diving horses go through intense training, which can include prods, electric wires, and the like to force them to jump. Horses do not naturally jump into water like this. They do not enjoy it, as it is painful (as it would be for anyone falling into water from 60 feet, which is the usual height for this event). After a diving career ends, the horses are slaughtered.
Just facts. Just think about this before you say anything "pro-diving horse event"~
it's because the owners have no more use for them. it's the same with racing horses and dogs. You always hear about greyhound rescue, because the owners don't care about the dogs, just the results. it's the same here. It's about money, not the life. So when the horse stop performing the way the owner wants, they just dispose of the animal.
no... actually, a boss wouldn't have his employee slaughtered. Many people DO treat animals differently. They're just "animals" so they can be slaughtered. Look at Michael Vic. He shot, hung, fought dogs.. for money. You wouldn't starve a bunch of humans, beat them, then sic them on other humans and then, when they failed to perform, murder them. It's just not right. but people will do that to animals. They'll set them on fire, throw them out windows, starve them. Abuse them. That IS different.
First, dont tell me people dont murder other people because they do. I hate Michael vic too. People torture other people as well. All that stuff you mentioned has happened to people. I am not saying it is right, but we dont have it much better in this world. If I have to have a job to survive, so does my horse. I dont call it cruelty to go to work every morning, I get hurt on the job too! I agree with you on many points up until the part where animals dont have to earn their keep.
I'm not a hippie, but these sorts of sports are very dangerous and the people who run these events do not have the horse's health in mind. it's about making money. so if the horse does not perform, these issues tend to arise. I didn't offend you, so please do not be rude to me :) thanks
That looked like the horse wanted to jump. These animal abuse people need to cut it out. Horses get raced and whipped...NOTHING has happened to horseracing. I guess the horse wants to race(i guess whipping isnt forcing). It is not animal abuse. The horse enjoyed itself. Unless we can prove otherwise. He liked diving.
i agree. the horses that are in the movie wild hearts cant be broken, they seem like they like doing it. i think if they like doing it they should. i dont think this horse likes it too much.
No offence to anyone in the business, but I believe this is a bit...forceful to the horses. I believe they'd rather be grazing or riding on trials. Horse Diving is over now, but I think the horses didn't enjoy it. If they did though, good for them.
Anyone who knows horses knows that you certainly can force them to do something like jump into water. It's not very high - so he's likely doing it on his own AFTER training; and they can be trained to jump into water with a rider - as in 3-Day Eventing.
all the people associated with this are going to hell for horse cruely. those people cheering are like the mob hooting when jesus was killed. the person who filmed this and posted it is going to hell. the people watching it are going to hell. i only hope the Lord spares me for having seen this and speaking out. lord forgive me.
I agree with l3atel2ifle. This horse is not being forced to do anything. Horses are pretty good swimmers. You cant force a horse out of a shoot. It would go balistic.
I think its rather difficult to say its not being forced out since we cannot see whether or not there's someone in the chute behind it with a crop or prod of some sort.
You people are all idiots. Horses are a lot stronger than you people think, they are also a lot smarter. If the horse didnt want to jump, it would start trampling people and going wild. it obviously didnt and jumped in without any hesitation, people dont force horses to jump into water, it's not even that great to begin with.
and you can scare any animal into doing anything so long as their fear is strong enough... it is a sick and disgusting act, in which animals are "trained" to do something that is not natural.
So many people have struggled to see industries like this shut down... this is sick
all u haters just watch the movie"wild hearts can't be broken" i'm sorry but jumping is natural and these aren't horses that r scared of water they'd be shut down if it was crule!lol geese
Again, we cant see behind the horse into the chute. This show may very well have been shut down after this video was taken, acts of cruelty are not always reported to autorities to be stopped. Every single act of cruelty cannot be caught and thus continue to abuse animals. Yes horses jump and go into water, those are very natural things. But do you think that a horse being made to jump out of an elevated ramp into a pool far below is natural?
who would people go to see this. why do people put these animals through crap! this horse is terrified and people are cheering after it flys int othe water! this is horrible!
are you sure that horse wasn't made to jump? there could have been someone behind him?
some people might find it cool, but I personally don't. if they didn't make him jump then good. but if you were a horse and were pointed at a big drop with a crowd watching you and shouting, not being able to turn around, what would you do? to jump would be the only exit i think.
please don't reply anyone if you're going to be mean. i'm just making a point.
i completely agree with you obviously theres no other way out so jumping is the only answer its cruel and most likely the horse was made to do that not by choice.
@HorseyMadChic This isn't typical horse diving, traditional horse diving would involve a much higher platform, and a person riding the horse/diving while on it at the same time, and the horses are brought up and trained specifically for that purpose, also traditional horse diving, the horse could turn around if it really wanted to, but not sure about this vid..cant tell because its enclosed which leads me to believe there is a person behind him, so seems kind of cruel :/
Really???? Gosh, i have heard of people doing that to horses, i have heard about it with other animals as well (dogs especially) :( how sad that people are that deprived that they have to do that to an ANIMAL just get a dodgy movie out it they're that deprived geaz (no reply needed)
we tryed to make my horses swimm but only 5 like the water the other 4 dont they sink like really just let them selves drown but dont worry nothing ever happened to them there always safe!!!!!!!!!!!!
how do u no that the horse is sad u have to b able to see in a horse's eyes to really no wat they r feeling. How is that cruelty wen the animal wasnt foced to jump?
Horses are not afraid of water you idiot. The horse isn't being pushed or prodded. And if the horse decides he doesn't want to jump in...he's not forced.
I met the chestnut horse who portrays "redlips" in the movie "wild hearts can't be broken" his name he goes by is Ramone, and he does LOVE water and will jump into a man made lake at the ranch. Movie studios said he was perfect because he soo loved to dive/swim, as in the horses that performed back in the 20's&30's
wow! that's really cool you got to meet the horse from that movie....i can't believe they are still diving horses though! i totally thought it was a "back then" thing until just now watching this clip! omg, wow
Everyone who thinks this is abuse is stupid. Horses are stubborn if they don't want to jump they wont. Horse diving used to be huge in the 20/30s people would let the horse run up a ramp sometimes 60 feet high and a girl would do a moving mount. no devices r used. wild horses love to jump in water. people do your reaserch before making assumptions. Horse diving is part of american history and i think it is something completely breath taking, and amazing.
The horses that "jumped" from 60 feet in the 1920s were actually standing on a trap door.
Whether this particular case is abusive is hard to say without more information. The horse doesn't appear panicked, but we don't know what happens inside that chute, or what happens when there isn't an audience.
OMG horse don't like water that has to be the biggest load I have ever heard!!! I also grew up on a horse farm and my horses LOVE water we go swimming every summer and I could for sure see some horses that would dive. and the lippizans are not beaten into doing what they do it takes years of training. if you beat a horse you do not create the kind of bond that it takes to perform at that level you annoy the horse and it would become mean. some people really annoy me!
let me get this straight one day the horse came upon a random ramp decided to climb up and jump into a random tank of water?right.they walk it to the ramp and they use an electric prod and whips to poke the horse. this is how lipizzans are trained. trust me when i say most horses hate water.they are naturally afraid of it.only when they are forced and coherced.I grew up on a horse farm...
this is cruel we are supposed to be evolving into a more humane way of being.c'mon people.wake up!
there's nothing cruel about it if the horses are trained probperly. there was a great movie that came out a while back ago called wild hearts or something like that and it was based on a true story. i mean ya it looks cruel but so does racing, jumping, dressage and everything else
They have their own website, which insists the horse does so freely and all they do is walk him to the ramp and he goes through it and jumps into the pool... twice a day during the season.
Doing it that frequently, I doubt he would need too much encouragement, they learn quickly and no doubt its simply "routine" for him. It is also possible that he enjoys it, some animals (they have personalities of their own) enjoy strange things.
horses are good swimmers and no its not cruel to make them swim, but it damn well is cruel to make them terrafied and jump out of a crate that they probably didnt like befor it was making them dangel 20 feet above a tiney swimming pool! fuck I hate people.
there is nothing cruel about this...the horses name is lightning and he lives at Magic Forest farm, look it up online, there is documentation from vets and animal behaviorists....theres nothing wrong with the horse or the act!
I have to say i Would never do this to a horse particularly but ya horses will and do jump and dive when there out and about in the wild. I live up at a cottage and my four horses love to go for a gallop and then splash into the lake by jumping off a rock. Though its just like jumping off a boat dock because its like what 2 feet from the water? and the 6 feet to the bottom of the lake... all my horses do it! Except my gelding... lol
I think its great i have had horses all my life and love swimming with them and I dont even beat them we live on the water and have a peir we walk down and into the water but get this my 12yr olds horse decides she doesnt want to take the long way and dives in continuing to splash swim and dive under. I think she liked it.
yea well there not exactly gonna say "oo yea we beat the horses up and stand with a burning metal rod just behind it and force him into the water.. its all very nice the way we do it."#
DUHH!!!!!
exactly like the circus!! it actually made me feel sick watching that.
I think feeling sick is a little much the people that were there said the horse did on its own the owners probably saw it enjoying the water one day and thought others would like to see it to all horses just like people are diffrent.
wow its jumping into water SOO cruel. wtf its just jumping into water its not gana hurt it, ad theres no on making it come out of the shoot, it gos up the shoot by its self and come oues on its own.
you rarely see a domestic horse diving into water, but if you spend time following wild mustangs around you will see them diving like this and doing even more dangerous stuff. I've even talked to the owner of magic forest and received reports and up close videos of this horse diving. There is nothing cruel about it.
Diving horse's isnt nothing new, it got started I think officially round the great depression. All the ones Ive seen, horses jump on their own and are wearing no devices. Its not cruel in my own opinion. Watch the movie wild hearts cant be broken.
I was at that exact place. Probably not at the same time this was taking, but I've seen that show before. It's at some like, zoo-ish place near Lake George, right?

If I wanted to live my life without paying my way people would call me a loser...I dont see why its cruel for a horse to have a job.
ArchDandy1134 2 years ago
because he isn't a human, so he's not thinking of making money? That's very strange to say, you know? That "he's lucky he has a job". MOST animals don't have jobs because they .. shouldn't have to have them. They aren't expected to pay rent or buy their own food.. that was just a very odd statement and i'm not sure I understand it.
MephFaustus 2 years ago
They have to find food/water/shelter dont they? thats their job in the wild. Kind of like a homeless person who sustains him/herself. A horse in a domestic situation has his food/water/shelter bills paid. If a person were in this situation and didnt work, we would call him a loser/freeloader. This horse is lucky he is capable of performing a feet that ensures his care in the future is a better way of saying what I said before.
ArchDandy1134 2 years ago
What is the difference between teaching a dog to dive from a high platform or a Horse? We just look at the size of the animal and think that they would not like it, when actually horses like water and could easily be trained humanly to dive. I support the diving horses act 100 percent.
burgandyflowers 2 years ago
to all those saying people who are saying these people don't care about the animals health and they are only in it to make money, think....

It looked like it was jumping but I bet they pushed it! Thats Sad!
Puffafish9 2 years ago
That poor horse, thats not performing, if I go to one of those evnts im gonna get in the pool grab a rope and the horse tie the rope around the owners neck and get the horse to gallop off. Then the horse can show his true feelings, I bet the horse is to afraid to back off cause he'll be beat, stupid retards its so mean!

People saying the horse wanted to jump:
Diving horses go through intense training, which can include prods, electric wires, and the like to force them to jump. Horses do not naturally jump into water like this. They do not enjoy it, as it is painful (as it would be for anyone falling into water from 60 feet, which is the usual height for this event). After a diving career ends, the horses are slaughtered.
Just facts. Just think about this before you say anything "pro-diving horse event"~
MephFaustus 3 years ago 3
y would they kill them? i dont get that
MajiksGurl224 2 years ago
it's because the owners have no more use for them. it's the same with racing horses and dogs. You always hear about greyhound rescue, because the owners don't care about the dogs, just the results. it's the same here. It's about money, not the life. So when the horse stop performing the way the owner wants, they just dispose of the animal.
MephFaustus 2 years ago 2
oo i c. jack was on his way there. but we got him :).. i would hate it. it looks scary. but i bet its even scarier being a horse
MajiksGurl224 2 years ago
dood, I don't know about greyhounds, but race horses are rarely slaughtered. They're valuable for breeding.
The few bad people out there put a black cloud on the whole industry. You can't judge it all by what a few people do.
Sakananechan 2 years ago
A boss would do the same thing to an employee....you make it seem like we treat animals different!
ArchDandy1134 2 years ago
no... actually, a boss wouldn't have his employee slaughtered.
MephFaustus 2 years ago
First, dont tell me people dont murder other people because they do. I hate Michael vic too. People torture other people as well. All that stuff you mentioned has happened to people. I am not saying it is right, but we dont have it much better in this world. If I have to have a job to survive, so does my horse. I dont call it cruelty to go to work every morning, I get hurt on the job too! I agree with you on many points up until the part where animals dont have to earn their keep.
ArchDandy1134 2 years ago
Damn hippie... Not all horses go to slaughter no matter what the career...
PiggyDog89 2 years ago
I'm not a hippie, but these sorts of sports are very dangerous and the people who run these events do not have the horse's health in mind. it's about making money. so if the horse does not perform, these issues tend to arise. I didn't offend you, so please do not be rude to me :) thanks
MephFaustus 2 years ago
That looked like the horse wanted to jump. These animal abuse people need to cut it out. Horses get raced and whipped...NOTHING has happened to horseracing. I guess the horse wants to race(i guess whipping isnt forcing). It is not animal abuse. The horse enjoyed itself. Unless we can prove otherwise. He liked diving.
travelnacka 3 years ago
did the horse chose to get pushed down a slide into a pool!? this looks (to me) like animal abuse
SUPERlovesME 3 years ago 2
i agree. the horses that are in the movie wild hearts cant be broken, they seem like they like doing it. i think if they like doing it they should. i dont think this horse likes it too much.
MajiksGurl224 2 years ago
how is that americana culture at its best?! its cruel.
Caluah6089 3 years ago 2
No offence to anyone in the business, but I believe this is a bit...forceful to the horses. I believe they'd rather be grazing or riding on trials. Horse Diving is over now, but I think the horses didn't enjoy it. If they did though, good for them.
horsepassiongirl 3 years ago

StarryIceWolf 3 years ago
I think its rather difficult to say its not being forced out since we cannot see whether or not there's someone in the chute behind it with a crop or prod of some sort.
Falketra0111 3 years ago 3
not if it has been beaten many times before...
notionsradical 3 years ago
You people are all idiots. Horses are a lot stronger than you people think, they are also a lot smarter. If the horse didnt want to jump, it would start trampling people and going wild. it obviously didnt and jumped in without any hesitation, people dont force horses to jump into water, it's not even that great to begin with.
l3atlel2ifle 3 years ago
without hesitation??? watch again...
and you can scare any animal into doing anything so long as their fear is strong enough... it is a sick and disgusting act, in which animals are "trained" to do something that is not natural.
So many people have struggled to see industries like this shut down... this is sick
logansvindett 3 years ago 3
Thats a bit... wrong.
SexyBear77 3 years ago
all u haters just watch the movie"wild hearts can't be broken" i'm sorry but jumping is natural and these aren't horses that r scared of water they'd be shut down if it was crule!lol geese
horsegirls99 3 years ago 2
Again, we cant see behind the horse into the chute. This show may very well have been shut down after this video was taken, acts of cruelty are not always reported to autorities to be stopped. Every single act of cruelty cannot be caught and thus continue to abuse animals. Yes horses jump and go into water, those are very natural things. But do you think that a horse being made to jump out of an elevated ramp into a pool far below is natural?
Falketra0111 3 years ago
who would people go to see this. why do people put these animals through crap! this horse is terrified and people are cheering after it flys int othe water! this is horrible!

there was something in horse& rider magazine a few years ago about a horse that "loved" diving a few 100ft .....
MAZ 122004 - did u have 2pay 2watch that ???
if the horse was sooo keen to do it why didnt it go off straight away love 2know if his ears were pricked up or flattened when he did that hmmm.....
farmiegirlie 3 years ago
. . . .
are you sure that horse wasn't made to jump? there could have been someone behind him?
some people might find it cool, but I personally don't. if they didn't make him jump then good. but if you were a horse and were pointed at a big drop with a crowd watching you and shouting, not being able to turn around, what would you do? to jump would be the only exit i think.
please don't reply anyone if you're going to be mean. i'm just making a point.
:)
HorseyMadChic 3 years ago 18
i completely agree with you obviously theres no other way out so jumping is the only answer its cruel and most likely the horse was made to do that not by choice.

@HorseyMadChic i so agree with you i dont find it plesant eather
wolfdemondxx 1 year ago
@HorseyMadChic This isn't typical horse diving, traditional horse diving would involve a much higher platform, and a person riding the horse/diving while on it at the same time, and the horses are brought up and trained specifically for that purpose, also traditional horse diving, the horse could turn around if it really wanted to, but not sure about this vid..cant tell because its enclosed which leads me to believe there is a person behind him, so seems kind of cruel :/

I met the chestnut horse who portrays "redlips" in the movie "wild hearts can't be broken" his name he goes by is Ramone, and he does LOVE water and will jump into a man made lake at the ranch. Movie studios said he was perfect because he soo loved to dive/swim, as in the horses that performed back in the 20's&30's
ponytales2001 3 years ago 3
wow! that's really cool you got to meet the horse from that movie....i can't believe they are still diving horses though! i totally thought it was a "back then" thing until just now watching this clip! omg, wow
aowrya 3 years ago
Everyone who thinks this is abuse is stupid. Horses are stubborn if they don't want to jump they wont. Horse diving used to be huge in the 20/30s people would let the horse run up a ramp sometimes 60 feet high and a girl would do a moving mount. no devices r used. wild horses love to jump in water. people do your reaserch before making assumptions. Horse diving is part of american history and i think it is something completely breath taking, and amazing.
fallen6from9grace 3 years ago 4
The horses that "jumped" from 60 feet in the 1920s were actually standing on a trap door.
Whether this particular case is abusive is hard to say without more information. The horse doesn't appear panicked, but we don't know what happens inside that chute, or what happens when there isn't an audience.
classicmelody 3 years ago
I agree to everything you said. And how crule was it when they made horse's stand on that trap door...No animal welfare there...

OMG horse don't like water that has to be the biggest load I have ever heard!!! I also grew up on a horse farm and my horses LOVE water we go swimming every summer and I could for sure see some horses that would dive. and the lippizans are not beaten into doing what they do it takes years of training. if you beat a horse you do not create the kind of bond that it takes to perform at that level you annoy the horse and it would become mean. some people really annoy me!
ropergirl2004 3 years ago 2
let me get this straight one day the horse came upon a random ramp decided to climb up and jump into a random tank of water?right.they walk it to the ramp and they use an electric prod and whips to poke the horse. this is how lipizzans are trained. trust me when i say most horses hate water.they are naturally afraid of it.only when they are forced and coherced.I grew up on a horse farm...

i know horses can swim well, but he's not too happy about being made to dive
it's obvious there is someone behind him prodding him
at least teach him to enjoy his job, and not make it tramatic for him
JSpatt 4 years ago
They have their own website, which insists the horse does so freely and all they do is walk him to the ramp and he goes through it and jumps into the pool... twice a day during the season.
Doing it that frequently, I doubt he would need too much encouragement, they learn quickly and no doubt its simply "routine" for him. It is also possible that he enjoys it, some animals (they have personalities of their own) enjoy strange things.
Couldnt say for sure one way or the other though.

I think she liked it.

exactly like the circus!! it actually made me feel sick watching that.
DrowningLessons92 4 years ago
I think feeling sick is a little much the people that were there said the horse did on its own the owners probably saw it enjoying the water one day and thought others would like to see it to all horses just like people are diffrent.
mkalamaty 4 years ago
wow its jumping into water SOO cruel. wtf its just jumping into water its not gana hurt it, ad theres no on making it come out of the shoot, it gos up the shoot by its self and come oues on its own.

you rarely see a domestic horse diving into water, but if you spend time following wild mustangs around you will see them diving like this and doing even more dangerous stuff.
