  • you should watch in the name of the father

  • since when did hurleys fire bullets?!

  • Stephen Rea's the man, protestant nationalist in real life

  • Julia Roberts should never have been in the movie. She was only put in it, so Americans would watch it.

  • @SamsSpaghetti It's not about apologizing it's about understanding. The world didn't start when you were born. The sins of the father go on the son.

  • wow american politics on an irish film

  • I'll make a fucking Army out of ye if it's the last thing I do! love that bit

  • This is a beautiful film!

  • Thats because your a peace of shit lets put you i another country then youl like america you fuckn unpatriotic shit

  • @trigger2193 You must be a Teabagger. Nobody else is so borderline illiterate. (Illiterate means "unable to read or write".)

  • Behold, the Irish Molotov.

  • 1st time Ive seen this film believe it or not. A recommendation if you like this is the wind that shakes the barley.

  • @nwlpaddy Two great films if you hate the british and historical truth.

  • @jonoessex How so. I studied Irish history.

  • @scientific1982 The depictions of the British in both films as subhuman savages is obviously incorrect. In Michael collins the tank on the pitch scene did not happen (there was a British atrocity at croke park but it did not happen that way). Michael Collins is obviously eulogy of collins not a warts and all depiction of him. WTSTB obviously presents the IRA in an absurdly glorified way. Worst of all the film misleads the audience into believing Ireland was partitioned because the Brts didn't

  • @jonoessex want to give up all of their colony. Actually it was because of unionist opposition to independence. You won't know that unionists existed from watching these two films. The audience is led to believe that the people who carried out the Omagh bomb were freedom fighters struggling for independence. These two awful films will lead to people putting money into the coffers of the real IRA without realising that Ireland is not under occupation.

  • @jonoessex Unionists have more in common with us than you. They're our brothers and sisters. BTW big massive difference between Official IRA-PIRA-RIAR. If you dont see the difference, you arent qualified to discuss the north. My best friend in the world was an English man and my family are staunch republicans.

  • @scientific1982 I do see the difference between the organisations. I think the campaign of the official IRA, PIRA were wrong. I have sympathy with the old IRA though. The fact that this film is anti--partition means it is pro-PIRA. I'm glad you consider unionists to be your brothers.

  • @jonoessex Really. My great grandmother is 105. She remember the black and tans. Lots of old women beaten, women raped and young lads murdered for nothing. They were animals and what happened in Ireland was repeated in every other British colony at some point. You sold men, women and children into slavery at one time FFS. And the old IRA are glorious to us. Similar to the founding fathers of the US.

  • @scientific1982 Countries and people's all across the world sold other people into slavery it is not just confined to the british. The fact that you describe the british as "animals" and the IRA as "glorious" shows that your view and your grandmothers view of the war is clouded by patriotism.

  • @jonoessex Your sensible comments to bigbosscat are in contrast to your anti-british comments in response to my post. Strange!!

  • jasus lads its christmas * favourite line :D

  • Is that Aidan Quinn in the movie early? Anthony Quinn's son. He is a good actor as well as Rickman and Neeson.

  • @MrDrum22 thats not saying much, theyre both shit actors.

  • 9:33

    Oh goddamnit, Snape...

  • They'll sleep soundly alright!

  • be still my heart! ...Liam Neeson is one big man by any standards

  • What is the weapon that THe Irishmen have in the beginning?

  • @80histoman1234 Our REFUSAL was the weapon.

  • julia roberts isnt even irish!

  • @TheGamersEnjoyment Yeah but she is an actor!

  • I just keep thinking over and over...it's the March of the Dirt Throwers. We...will throw sod at you - you're gonna soil yourself mate...

I think someone spiked my coffee.

  • 4:51 - 5:10

One of if not the best scene in the movie, "fuckin deadly, ye dont believe me?? What is it now?......" Changes the whole tone/mood of the film imo.

  • Lian Neeson is Best!

  • *I'm only watching this because I have an A level History exam in 5 weeks

  • @1emmavolney This film will not help you in your history exam it is very inaccurate

  • I love how Bravehert cast a virtual unknown who could actually fucking act in the love interest role, and was a huge hit. This movie cast Julia Roberts putting on a lucky the leprachan impression and it bombed financially in North America.

Anyway, still a good film regardless.

  • armed with hurls... good oul munstermen!

  • The G-Men were, undoubtedly, Britain's more powerful ennemy. What we call now and what is established as The Republic of Ireland was due to Michael Collins, but most of all, by the G-Men who contributed aiding the Irish. On the other hand, unfortunately, the concept of "terrorism" was introduced learning there's always a war in one side of the territory. So "peace" cannot be proclamed as ours, because it will always remains as an utopic element. Such as freedom and happiness.

  • As an Emglish person it shames me how we treated the Irish (and the rest of the countries in our Empire). I know 'sorry' doesn't really cover what we did, but I am truly sorry for what we did, especially the Black and Tans. Hopefully Ireland will be united, but my fear would be how the Unionists would react. Because of our behaviour and attitudes in the past, everyone hates us, and no wonder.

  • @BigBossCat ha your a stupid liberal piece of shite who has been blinded by liberal propaganda

  • @BigBossCat As an english person that kind of self-loathing is unhealthy. If you look at the french, spanish, dutch, portugese etc you will find that these countries did the same thing to other countries. It is often ignorant americans who are the first to attack the british because of their history. Yet they support their own countries imperialism. The empire is gone. It's now the american empire that has to be challenged.

  • @jonoessex I believe you already did. And guess who won? :D Had help from the French sadly, if you guys were not trying to be in two places at once we wouldn't have won.

  • @jonoessex Challenge us? I believe you did already, and we know how that turned out. Had help from French though, wouldn't of won if it wasn't for them...helped you guys and them in WWII though. Either way go piss with China, they are quickly passing us. Hell I'd go so far as to say they have already.

  • @facelessone1391 I'm not talking about hundreds of years ago i'm talking about challenging american power today. It always surprises me when americans who are misruling the world today attack the brits for what they did in the past.

  • @jonoessex I haven't attacked a Brit for anything. Not even lunch money. Don't know any of my fellow Americans who do attack Brits. You guys did horrible things, we did/do horrible things. Also we NEVER ruled the world, we just like to think we do. Do I love my country? No, I do not. America is the biggest hypocritical nation on this planet. So if your expecting a flag waving burger eating red blooded American here, you shall not find one.

  • @facelessone1391 That's a bit extreme. Saying you don't love your country is really a shitty thing to say. You can acknowledge your country's past and not hate it. It's only bad when you either, deny your country's past(America need not apologize for anything...) or you 'don't love your country.' America's did horrible things(in total we have a better record of the English BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS)but it still our country, you don't have to be a wave a flag, love burgers or have red blood.

  • @jonoessex u think america is ruling? take a look at china!

  • @ADMJCXNK97fan Yeah take a look five feet outside of a major city in China. China is ruling nothing. China can barely rule China. China will never rule, because its political structure is too fragile. The communist party's number one concern is jobs, they have to create something like 10 million jobs a year just to keep unemployment stable. and American demand creates most of those jobs. And steady jobs are the only thing keeping China's government in power. China can't afford empire.

  • @Twistednerver i know, yet they want to rule ameria >:E or the world.

  • @ADMJCXNK97fan well imperialism was how britain dealt with surplus population. Maybe china will just drop millions of people in every country.

  • @Twistednerver oh brilliant -_- & they can't even fix up their OWN country

  • @BigBossCat You shouldnt be sorry:

    1. You werent alive.

    2. The average British person during this time was just as oppressed. Its a class struggle.

    3. Basically everyone in Ireland has family from Britain.

    4. We were just as oppressive to our own people when we got in power.

The British have done a lot of good for the world. Yous absolved your sins in ww2. And I come from a republican background.

  • @BigBossCat That kind of self-loathing is what these nasty anti-british films generate in decent british people. Michael collins and other films are designed to stir up hatred against the British. They do not represent the truth. The British nation has given alot to the world. Yes we've done bad things but what country hasn't. Your average briton is twice the person Neil Jordan is.

  • @BigBossCat i dont hate you, you protected us in 1812 and everyone that gives a hand to canada is a true friend. Power to the comonwealth, power to the kingdom, power to the queen!

  • @BigBossCat I wish and hope that more British people would be like you, God bless ya.

  • @BigBossCat The unionists would face certain death if they did anything other than sit quiet!

  • @BigBossCat True, when I'm in England(I'm American)and hear people, especially my mother in law, talk about 'asians.' I'm just like well you know if England hadn't felt the need to take their country they wouldn't have the right to come settle in England. It's ironic that England the country that went to every corner of the world uninvited now bitches about immigrants. There's a few Native Americans(left) who might have a word about the English and immigration. Chickens come home to roost.

  • @BigBossCat As an Irishmen, i really appreciate you saying that, but I'll admit one thing, if not for England for creating all the large buisness's in Ireland such as Waitrose, etc, we would not live in the luxury we love today.

  • @BigBossCat Well , if more English people had that attitude instead of bein` snobs who deny your Empire ever did anything wrong and/or making excuses , you might not be so hated . And , I can attest to the sins of England , Germany and Russia , bein` An American of French , Scotch-Irish , Austrian , Ukrainian , Polish , Dutch and Danish descent all on my mom`s side ! SoCal forever , ya`ll !

  • @SYCO1NE no matter how offensive an ignorant moronic comment is - this kind of response is not necesary- or acceptable- if you want to show that you better than this kind of person- and you probably are- use intelligant words and not abuse- i do however understand your frustration with such people- they can often come across as lowlife animals

  • Its funny to see so many knackers on screen at once. I hope Ireland gets hit with another fucking famine. Then Gods work will be done.

  • @Loyal2britain HOW FUCKING DARE YOU!!!! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE IRISH! THEY FOUGHT AND DIED TO KICK YOUR PEOPLES ASSES AND WIN THEIR FREEDOM!! I BET THAT YOU ARE JUST UPSET AT THE FACT THAT YOU KNOW THAT IRELAND KICKED BRITTANS ASS COUNTLESS TIMES!!! IRELAND WILL ALWAYS PREVALE!!

  • Thank you very much for uploading this. I wouldn´t get to see it where I live now.

My Grandfather was a postman ( aged 25) in 1916. He used to tell us very

often about those incredible times in the GPO Dublin. He knew Michael Collins

well and had a deep respect for him. He had NO respect for Dev though.

  • 06:13 chills me everytime

  • As a man from county antrim that Liam Neeson really has lost his nut in his role in this shit!

  • Liam Neeson is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.

  • wats the song at 3:00 micheal song

  • @RYAND548

    watch?v=lpW6C56VQUY

  • anyone here foggy dew in the background when they were rioting?

  • The movie had an american feel to it right from the beginning, like a bunch of california actors pretending to be what they thought was "Irish."

  • @achmedthedeadterror5 yeah there was harry boland . im directly related to him so you are most likely not. but we have the same last name

  • @ChinchillaSniper my part of the family left Ireland just a couple years before all this went down... I think Harry was a cousin to my great grandparents... regardless its still awesome xD

  • yeah it is still awesome

  • FTQ

  • Now,now Cahill,Don't exceed your brief

  • what do u call teh song michael collins song ?

  • Julia Roberts..... WTF!!! did she use lucky charms adverts in her research of an Irish accent???

  • @2Xensemble Forget Julia Roberts, she's just a hollywood starlet with no talent. I blame the studio executives who keep putting hollywood starlets with no talent into these movies in a shameless ploy to pull in American audiences. What infuriates me most of all is that this movie came just after Braveheart, so they were ripe with the chance to go the rout that film did and cast a virtual unknown, who could fucking act in the love interest role.

  • i don't think he was a mad bastard, i think he just fought extremely hard for what he believed in. Liam Neeson was brilliant in the film. Julia Roberts was... you know. she was alright. :L

  • @Topnotch121: you're one of few men who say it. I say it too. The Prick

  • Liam Nesson...absolutely fantastic!

  • n if you ever wanna hear the worst irish accent then forget julia roberts what about gerrard butler in p.s i love you it was atrocious and he's a scot it should'nt be hard to cross over

  • its christmas lads lol

  • a great mad basterd tho :P

  • u do know its based on a real person

  • @rosicky7rocks ah yeah I'm not that stupid.

  • julia roberts = worst irish accent eva

  • Sorry, but Julias voice is the one fo a puck goat...

  • dev did the right thing here

  • dev never did the right thing.shower of fianna fail bastards.raping this country and its people of democracy and equality.dev was prick and he fucked up our agricultural industry for 40 odd years.

  • @Topnotch121

you couldn't be more right dev was a fuking cunt

  • @Topnotch121 shup

  • @wolftone69

dev is a cunt fuck off michael collins all the way

  • @MultiCanning he was an arsewhole

  • Rebellion has yet to come!

  • love love alan rickman

  • @corazonelegido Its Liam Neeson you twat.

  • @corazonelegido- Maybe this has got something to do with why Snape doesn't like Harry, who is about as Irish as King Henry VIII. I know that's not so, but you can't help but relate one role played by an actor to another, especially if the two have some relation.

  • The Civil War is the most painful event in our State's history which took the most vibrant and principled and for what?

  • Michael Collins lives on. We will send the English Soldiers back to England, on their rowing boats, back to their fucking Mammies, dead or alive!

  • For freedom, so that you don't have to live by another man's leave! Bear up! Don't look at what is, now. Be like them... look at what CAN be. YOU make the future. You are tomorrow's hero... live like it!

  • Julia roberts is painfully HOT!!

  • I wonder historicaly did De Valira tell them not to try and restrain from been arrested if so then really he was stupid...I mean if someone gave me a list with my name and birthplace on it brought from a goverment who hated me and told me I was going to be arrested that night I'd believe them and I would get out of there fast....

  • Michael Collins was well beyond your little Intellect, Peadarisback

  • in that case im assuming peadar is a cat?no hang on ,that is an insult to feline everywhere

  • what?? I was just wondering historicaly did De Velira tell the rest of the revoultionary cabinet to 'sleep at home' when Collins had just warned them that they where about to be arrested....

It just seems like the film is trying to hard to slant Eoimen De Velra at any possible moment.....Collins obviously yes was better but that little scene in the film seems unlikely and is probably taken historicaly out of context or fabricated.

  • if dey shut me up? wholl take my place??

he brought d real republic home.......

  • brilliant film

  • God, Liam neeson is fantastic .

  • Jaysus lads it's Christmas, Feckin brill line love ths film

  • julia roberts is painfully bad!!

  • I think Julia Robert's Irish accent is better than Aidan Quinn's =S

  • If they're trying to portray Irish home life Julia Roberts should've learnt the song in Irish or they should have gotten an Irish actress. That drives me mental when they choose Americans over the Irish.

  • she probably sucked off the director

  • hes a fuckin legend

  • why the bloody hell are there English subtitles while there's perfect English being spoken?

  • it was because i ripped the dvd to zune format which unfortunately turns the setting for subtitles on.your very welcome though.

  • thanks for uploading this btw.

  • ur welome man

  • Lol.

  • @Topnotch121 because there using cork accents.

  • @Topnotch121 thank you for the posting of this must have taken some time

  • Thank God for the subtitle. Maybe you don't need it but I do.

    Thank you Topnotch121.

  • @mercore i'm irish so no i dont need them :)

  • @MrTriggr For the deaf.

  • @MrTriggr because Americans can rarely understand other English langauge accents- I agree tho- its perfectly understandable for a person of normal intelligance

  • @MrTriggr The subtitles are appreciated - not all of us speak English with an Irish accent.

I did not realize that the British were so hardassed in Ireland in the 20th century....

  • Julia Roberts is horrible as usual, her singing is ridiculous. A) why not hire an Irish Actress B) why not hire a real actress period. Too bad, because otherwise this is a good movie.

  • no kidding the fake accent is horrible

i agree they should have hired an Irish Actress

  • For sure. You should check out Julia Roberts and the Paparazzi on youtube - it's quite something to see this arrogant woman think she is so above everything. If having her picture taken so often is her biggest worry, then her life is truly blessed, in comparison to most people's worries.

  • Go on Michael boy, ya mad bastard. TAL

  • Fuck yea you sir are a true patriot.

  • thanks For this :D Tiocfaidh Ar La

  • no bother kid.

  • bout time some 1 put this up,thank you

  • alright mate.sorry i dont have all the rest of it up yet but in due course.
