  • awesome playing bro

  • great playing man

  • Two things: First, fantastic playing! Really enjoyed it, man. Second, incredible variety of sounds out of that thing. A friend bought one of the early Variax's several years ago and was very happy with it. This model seems twice a versatile and truly incredible in your hands. I'll be keeping an eye out for your music in the marketplace. Happy New Year!

  • @buczekjoe thanks for your comment! happy new year

  • wow, nice tuning! is this the best Variax around? Because i can see that there are a lot of models

  • @DiomedesTididax there are new ones. they are called "taylor variax". they are said to be better than this one(variax 700)

  • Do you find the trem annoying when you're trying to play a fixed bridge sound (les Paul for example) when bending strings (and other strings going out of tune). Could you easily block it or use a tremol-no device? Also, if you had a fixed bridge version would you miss the trem option with the strat sound? Great vid by the way!

  • what's the name of the song u played using acoustic sound :D

  • @babybackstreet02 "to be with you" by Mr Big.

  • are line 6 guitars good? i always thought of them just providing decent amps etc. idk ive seen some line6 guitars that looked bad but yours sounds and plays nice. and plus ur a great guitar play. try to get back to me if u can

  • that guitar is awesome i wish fender would make a strat like that

  • 5 people can't play guitar

  • @ramabima thanks mate!

  • there are no pickups Oo how does it know what youre playing?

  • @shatalg *facepalm* there under the wood.

  • I know I heard guthrie's rhode island shred during the banjo section. I say do a vid of that song.

  • @StevieBGoode check out my channel and you'll find one!

  • What a good demo on the Variax 700! And wonderful playing man! Thanks for posting this video. It's a pretty thorough one featuring some of the "flavors" the guitar comes with. Cheers! I wish I could play like you do. :)

  • @christophersuzara thanks mate!

  • thanks a lot mate!!

  • Great playing! Are you using stock Vax patches? I have a 300 & 700 and they sound flat compared to the sounds your getting. Especially the strat tones, which I'm assuming is what you opened with. Maybe it's a question of technique, but you seem to be getting alot more string nuance, attack and detail (almost to the level of normal magnetic pups) than I get.

  • @pworam68 yep, all variax patches were the stock ones

  • andres ludmer: if you have facebook what is your name and your picture???

  • it is simulation sounds.... but there is question when you play it with out any simulation what sound it have? no sound?i mean when i play with my epiphone sp 2

without any effect or combo or multiefect it have sound..what about variax?

  • @puydan they are in the bridge.

  • This is a really fantastic demo! Thanks a lot for taking the time to be so thorough. Answered tons of my questions concerning the quality of the sounds. I've been gigging with an HD500 and am really considering taking the plunge on one of these.

  • 2:23 I'm the one who waaants to beee with youuuu haha =D

  • What is the computer program called fro the Variax 700 that you can download and store alternate tunings to your variax? The customs are great, but I want to have an eflat and d tuning.

  • @stratman1967 variax workbench

  • way better than me. I have a Variax 300 and I hate the neck. I'm using 10s, but

I think I'll switch to 9s tomorrow. What stringsare you using? Your rig sounds great. What amp are you running?

  • @uninoculated thanks mate. i was using ernie ball 10's. no amp, just pod xt live.

  • can you blend the sound of acoustic and electric?

  • @mojoefly nope.

  • @andyvicius You could loop it though...

  • @mojoefly yes you can with the variax workbench app you can create your own guitar, even a guitar with an acoustic guitar's body and electric guitar's pick ups...

  • Sweet playing!

  • Excellent! Both your demonstration of the unit and your proficiency as a guitarist. Goes to show you, its all in the fingers. Great Job!

  • acoustic sound is awesome!

  • Cara vc é o CARA !!!! que facilidade que técnica, parabéns irmão vc é abençoado!!!

  • How is te action on the neck? is it thick or thin etc?

  • Ohhh... that one octave down E and A was awesome...

  • 5:35 Is that New Millennium Cyanide Christ? lol

  • I love your style. Great playing. Came to see the variax and was more impressed with your Jazz licks. Been thinking about taking the Variax hardware out to put into a different guitar (such as a std strat) ... Thanks for posting!

  • @capth00k thanks mate. if done the "transplant". check out that video response below the main vid

  • chapo excellent jeu a la guitar woooo la classe , bravo tres bon feeling

  • Freaking awesome! Wonderful playing! bravo! I've been shopping for "the right guitar" but I have to say, after seeing this, I'm buying one of these!! Thanks! :) Loved the "To Be With You" solo. Great demonstration.

  • @gtrgdss thanks a lot!!! glad you liked it. cheers from argentina

  • could you please tab me the chord at 2.08 - 2.10 ?

    would be really nice!

and good playing, i'm really impressed! nice guitar.

    stay tuned!!

  • @Felixxxxxxxify hey, it's a 3 note chord(Badd9 in regular tuning). 5th string, 2nd fret - 4th string, 4th fret - 3rd string, 6th fret.

  • @andyvicius thanks man! really nice:):)

  • you have an excellent ear, and excellent guitar too.

  • Most importantly.. how does it play?

  • What if the modeling electronics fail on this guitar. Can I bypass the electronics and connect the internal pick-up directly to the amplifier just like I would a regular electric guitar. Will this type of guitar work this way?

  • @ricomajestic yes, it will. actually the circuit on this guitar was "transplanted" to another one, build buy a luthier, and that guitar also has regular pickups, you can switch between variax and regular coils.

  • Hey, the acoustic simulator is just godly... Can you only get it using variax guitar + pod xt or is there any patch for any other pod device (ux1/pod farm)? It's just something I must have so if you could only send me the patch if it exists and if you still have it. Thanks!

  • @Kamis5050 in order to get the variax acoustic sound, you just need a variax. it's a preset on that guitar. no pod or anything else needed

  • i hate the sound of the low b tuning w/ distortion but otherwise this seems like a great guitar!! and amazing playing too; you're very versatile!!

  • Comment removed

  • I love some of the sounds Line6 is getting into these guitars, and when they are really "there" I'm lookin forward to buying one.

And yes, noodling thru sounds, without a rhythmic reference, is appalingly misleading.

  • acbulgin2 is very much on track here.

Here are the problems for a high level player at this time with these guitars imho.

    1) Rhythmic interaction with any world class drummer, beat, or even when practicing with a metronome, the tracking lag will make it excruciatingly painful to play.

    2) The piezo to digital conversion removes an incredible amount of touch sensitivity and interferes pretty much the same way.

  • Question: is a POD needed in order to get the various guitar settings?

  • @LessthanJake14 nope

  • that's some shit load of seriously good playin dude. restecpa.

and i'm so buying this guitar it's not even funny...

  • Sos un capo! Gracias por la demostracion.. muy buena viola!

  • Haha that rockabilly part was sick. Nice tones.

  • gibson 175 D....; i NEEEEEED this : / do u need to use this guitar to do this? :o

  • make it lefthanded one line 6 i beg u!!!!

  • @IndianathePelimies you can get al the variax sounds without the pod xt live.

  • Whats the name of the song in 2:25 ?

  • @XAyubi it's a song by the band Mr big. called "to be with you".

  • @andyvicius Thank you very much. =)

  • What is your amp?

  • @spartan13014 no amp on this vid, just hte pod xt live straight to the sound card.(i have a fender stage 100 if you with to know anyway)

  • yo quiero tocar asi!!!!!!!!!

  • This is a demonstration of a type of guitar, not guitar playing. Reality called, they want you to come visit. ;-)

  • @andyvicius Buenisimo.

    Gracias capo.

  • Good video. I enjoyed the samples of different models.

  • An excellent demo. Some beautiful jazzy playing. Marvellous complex scales and arpeggios. I've been waiting to see someone really good demo these guitars [I've got one too]. Thanks.

  • Great job man :D I fell of my chair when I heard the banjo sound :O

  • With respect, in spite of the fantastic technique and obvious feel for the instrument, the rhythm goes to the wall when the licks are trotted out. Fancy licks are great, but don't we need to be able to do them against a rhythm in most instances? I have seen guys like this who blow you away in the music store, then you put them with a drummer or someone else, and suddenly it seems they need practice. Lots of practice. The good news is that of course he can do it, but does he?

  • @acbulgin2 check out some of my videos with the fusion trio, hope you like it. cheers.

  • @acbulgin2

Answering your questions as a "guitar expert" trust me, I know the answers.

    1. No, not in this context. If he was playing piano you wouldn't even think of it. What your describing is a different situation that someone who has taught thousands of guitar students can tell instantly, this guy can play.

    2. He is not giving a lesson but going through the sounds so I can evaluate the tones.

    3. You didn't ask but your statements prove you need to practice.

  • @HipHopBluesman If he were playing a piano or indeed any other instrument including voice, I would immediately think of it. Endless noodling outside of a rhythmic context has limited appeal. So he is demonstrating the sounds of the Variax for YOU personally? That is mighty nice of him. As regards the need for practicing, we ALL need to practice, including you. If you are satisfied with your musical achievements, then there is no room or ability for improvement or learning.

  • @acbulgin2

Hmmn... "we ALL need to practice". If it's that obvious why did you bring it up? As regards to "endless noodling" watch any demonstration of keyboards where somebody is showing you the features and they stay "perfectly" in time. And WTF is rhythmic context? Try to loop 8 bars of any rock band before U2 started using a metronome when recording tracks and then tell me about this pedantic slavery to a metronome you speak of.

  • @cfsimon21 If you have any sense of being a real musician, you would know that no musican, no matter how famous or well-respected, is not as good at music as he would like to be. That is what spurs them on to even greater achievements in the various areas of repertoire and interpretation.

  • @cfsimon21 I mean precisely what I say. Look at musical score; it has a time signature and perhaps some indication as to tempo. I never implied in anything I wrote that people needed to play in a robotic, metronome-like tempo The real issue is that too many great guitar players seem to spend a lot of time in their bedrooms playing lick after lick and run after run, and all too often they are doing it with no particular rhythm or pulse.

  • @cfsimon21 There are few bits recorded and successful that have a guitar working outside any definite tempo. "Eruption" by EVH is a good example, but how many studio recordings of any kind have a track like that on them? Very few indeed. As I say, it has a limited appeal. Most people, most of the time seem to like some sort of rhythm or rhythms in the music they listen to. And when one presumes to tell another he needs to practice, he might need to be reminded of his own need to do so.

  • @HipHopBluesman As it happens, he has a number of other videos uploaded on Youtube during which he demonstrates a clear ability to play in a rhythmic context which I was certain he was capable of.

  • @HipHopBluesman Go buy a Variax. And you might be interested in this web site as well: it is a free metronome. Metronomeonline -dot-com

  • @acbulgin2

I already have several very expensive metronomes since I make a living playing and teaching guitar. Thanks. Here's another free tip, try to match your metronome to an orchestra from the beginning of a section of a piece of music to the end and see what happens. Might be interesting...

  • @cfsimon21 You have several very expensive metronomes? You are more of a fool than I thought. A musician only needs one. I have an old wind-up German Taktell which has a mercifully soft but definite click to it. I do not particularly care for the obnoxious beep that some electronic ones have, but some of those have a number of sounds to choose from. The idea of using a metronome all the time is crazy, but so is the idea of NEVER using it. That is the problem I speak of.

  • @acbulgin2

I collect things... has nothing to do with your definition of a "musician" and more to do with the fact that I have money from playing music instead of posting videos where I play out of time while I criticize others. If your not looking at the video for information on the tones of the guitar but instead for an opportunity to stroke your ego... maybe you should take a look at that too.

  • @cfsimon21 Now I think you might have hit upon something there.

  • @cfsimon21 And for those of us who hate metronomes (indeed I often find myself among them), another option is to play with other musicians as much as possible rather than playing alone. It is amazing how quickly the need to practice with a rhythm becomes apparent when one plays with others.

  • @acbulgin2

Hmnn..., to make it more simple for you. I took your comment and paraphrased it and threw it back in your face... if it offends you that much maybe you should take a look at that.

  • @acbulgin2 stfu.

  • @acbulgin2 Wow. The video is not about his playing or what he plays at all. It's completely about the sound.

  • @acbulgin2 ... with respect you miss the point of this vid it is clearly about the variety of sounds etc from the Variax and the noodling on the guitar [pretty awesome noodling btw] is to fit in with the various sounds , tunings etc your criticism of Andy's playing is unwarranted watch his vid with his trio playing Gambale's "Yang" then come back and admit you were wrong ?

  • @illuminOz I think you need to read what I wrote a bit more carefully, especially the last bit and the poster's reply. Most of us are well acquainted with what the Variax can do. Line 6 has also promoted it quite well. My comment had to do with the tendency among rock guitar players to 1. play without any tempo and 2. not play all the way through a song. I know he can do it, he is a great player, so I hope he gets on with it and does it.

  • @acbulgin2 check out my variax transplant vid. i showed sounds of the guitar, but with a music context. maybe you will like that one more than this one.

  • nice meshuggah, but its in Bb

  • Nice demo, nice songs. Damn, i really want Variax now.

  • Okay...I've been playing for over 40 years(yeah I'm ancient) but I've never seen anything like this! AWESOME! guy plays his ass off!

  • This is the coolest video I've seen on Youtube. Incredible playing and demo.

  • hey, what's the song on 8:05 i can't remember, and it's breaking my head cause i can't remember! please

  • You play so well... wow...

your sound is great, so I ask you: have you connected your variax with a pod xt live?

    And....

...what do you think about a variax guitar to play things like guitar solo with Malmsteen, Vai and Satriani sounds?

  • I hear your meshuggah there!

  • Excellent display of what the Variax is capable of. I have a 600 and play it more than my Gibson Les Paul now. It's a fun guitar to play (action, setup, etc...) and it sounds great.

  • the variax is only good for acoustic stuff. but when it comes to palm muting with distortion it sucks big time

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but from 2:24-2:48, is that the solo from "To Be With You" by Mr. Big?

  • from an owners point of view, what is the sound like? is it too electronicy? what is the neck like? write back :)

  • @Donnan125 i transplanted the electronics to a custom guitar recently.

  • Love it!

  • whats the name of the song at 7:34 ?

  • The strat patch was least convincing. You would think that would be an easy one to get right. I liked the Donna Lee and Manhattan.

  • what is the name of the seconde accoustic song ? I would like to play this song but I can't for that ! pleaaaase ! help me !!! =)

  • Hello sir... Do you have these patches in some place to download?

  • Acustic sounds beautiful!!!

  • Hey dude, you have a msn? Other thing, waht song you play in in 1:20? Congratulations, Great job!

  • This guitar have automatic tuning like the gibson's roboguitar?

  • so do you have to have this plugged into a computer to play? or just plug into the pod and store all the sounds on it

  • @frozenfarm you don't need to have it plugged to the computer. only to edit tunings and stuff, but you can save it

  • Te felicito Andres, tocas increible, Tengo tu mismo set up El pod xt live mas la Variax 600.

  • whats on the headstock

is that like a sweatband for your guitar

for when you shred too intensely

    haha

  • Dude I own a fender strat deluxe, a line 6 Spider III 75W and a pod xt live, can i get that les paul neck position sweet sound with that equipment or is a variax needed in order to succeed that? Subscribed. Peace.

  • @giometaxas thanks mate. i think you need a guitar with a humbucker on the neck position to get that sound. so... get a les paul... or, yes with variax you can do it all

  • @giometaxas You should sell the Spider the Pod and if you like the variax sell the Strat. Get the variax and a Pod X3 Live and you´re set.

  • nice man

  • Comment removed

  • does this line 6 guitar use an amp or pc i am very confused

  • The Pod xt live can go USB into your computer for recording, through your amp, OR into the PA.

It can be used in many different ways.

  • OMG i still dont get how you get sound out of the guitar when it has noo pick ups

    xD

  • @Nerka131 it has a piezo pick up on the bridge, but no magnetic pickpus. check out the line6 website to find out more

  • @Nerka131 there actualy are pickups. individual ones right at the bridge of the guitar, atached to the bridge to be exact. they're very small and only get the sound from which particular note your hitting. the electronics in the guitars pre-built and customized system change that note to different effects to sound like a ex: banjo, 12 string, stratocaster, acoustic, classical, citar, etc.

  • Wow, that guitar sounds amazing.

    Your also very talented.

  • i liked that bit from donna lee!!

  • That guitar is amazing.

  • Nice playing!

One question; does it matter what the sound card of the PC is? I mean, I have a shitty sound card. If I buy the Pod X3 Live, in order to record, will I have to buy a new sound card?

  • @ploutoploutwnios you can use the pod x3 as a sound card.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • the les paul neck sounds a little too twangy i think the tone should be a little thicker but i think that the acoustic was rather incredible..

  • great playin btw

  • nice test, great acoustic sound ;) and 2:24 what thats song ;P?

  • @Siergiejl - That's Mr. Big's "To be with you"

  • dude i fucking need this pedal

  • hi nice music my friend!I've just got my variax..do you think that if I buy the workbench device it's also possible to have bass sounds?

  • @piglioncu mmm not really... when you tune down a lot it's not that good.

  • You are very talented. I have 4 of these, but you made me appreciate the guitars even more. Line6 is lucky to have you as an unpaid Rep. Best to you and your life choices.

  • @A1MauiBoy thanks a lot mate! good luck to you!

  • nice acoustic sound

  • This video was the deciding factor on whether or not I bought one of these. I should have it in the mail any day now :)

  • @wespaul1981 hehe, maybe i should ask line6 for a comission! enjoy your variax mate

  • @andyvicius You definitely should, because your demo video is better than any of the ones they've put out themselves, imo. I just got mine today, and am loving exploring all these new sounds. The only thing that troubles me is that I can't seem to dial in a nice, thick distorted sound for metal. Maybe with a bit more fiddling, but I haven't found it yet. I'm in love with the 12 string models, though!
