If you want a GPU that will play games that come out by the end of the next year, then go for a 9800GT at least. You can get them for around 70 bucks on Newegg.
OR...
Look for the 9600GSO - The DDR3 - 256Bit edition. Not the 128bit edition.
This 9600GSO is pretty much the same as the 9800GT in performance. I bought on of these a while back for 39 bucks on newegg (it was half price deal) useally it sells for around 70 bucks.
lol i havent even played a game in the past week, and i hate wow, tried it, and stopped playing, and when i do play i play gmod and css, and you tell me to get a life, just look at the size of our comments mine are usually around two lines (excluding this one) yours are all at least 4, nuff said =)
What has that got to do with anything? I type 120 WPM... It's my job to type fast, so I type more. Again, what has that got to do with anything? You completly changed what was being said to win an argument.
If your on an extreme budget? Then log onto ebay and look for the "8600GTS" now, this is not a normal 8600GT. The GTS version is the revised DDR3 Overclocked version.
It plays GTAIV on medium settings and gets me 30FPS. If it can handle GTAIV, then it WILL handle most of todays games on medium.
I bought this for $30 on ebay.
BUT, I would suggest going for a 9800GT, if your budget fits... Go for a GTS250.
well, the cheapest deal i can get is from tigerdirects online store, so that really doesn't matter that much.. i have 100$, and a 19 inch screen, should i go for more shaders, more ramsize, or higher clock speeds?
I've seen many videos claiming the 8600GT playing GTAIV on full. Dosn't mean it REALLY can.
It's your choice, its just an outdated card. Even the 9800GT is outdated, but its a good card. The 4550 is lower then the 8600GT by a major margin.
Again, 100 bucks for a 4550 is stupid. I wouldn't pay 40 bucks for it. Now, if your budget is 50 bucks, and you're on a budget just wanting to play games, then sure, go for a 4550. But I said it once, and I'll say it again... I wouldn't pay 40 bucks for it.
Yes, it shows during the video you need a cable to power it.
But you need to understand, when a GPU is not being used it dosn't use its full power.
For example. My 9800GT only uses 38W's of power when I'm normally browsing on my computer. When I game, it uses around 70W's of power, and not the full 125W's that it has as a Max.

Buy a good powersupply man,its the soul of your pc, you cant get anywhere with a cheap psu. My psu has 52amps on the 12+ rail and its only 650watts, but its solid and stable. Trust me if u get a good psu u wont regret it.
it also depends on the Amps .. i have a 650 W PSU i have 2 6-pin connectors BUT i only have 18Amps on the freaking +12 volt rail.. and surprisingly i have 36Amps on the +5 volt rail :S
can anyone help me get a new video card?: i have: intel pentium 4 2.6-Ghz; 512 DDRSD RAM;foxconn motherboard(idk what kind);and a ATI RADEON 9200 AGP 8x with 128mb DDR memory; and also my motherboard has the old AGP slots. :) i also have winxp service pack 2 and dx8
you wont be able to do much with that pc . you need a whole new motherborad. if you are looking into gaming you need at least a daul core these days. most of the big games are going with 4 cores .
so do i, i just bought it like an hour ago for $82 bucks. my psu is 430W but the case has lights on the fans, a long blue led light inside the case, and a HUD on the front. so i hope they arent using too much.
Cool, I have 500W though, hope that's sufficient, I got this card just recently myself, seems to be running fine for now. I think with your PowerUnit, you can do crossfire right?
when the gt came out i thought it was rubbish, as my dad + my two bros had some version of it for there computers. Whilst I found my old ati x1300 seemed to work at the same speed or even faster than it, to what it appears.
1500w psu??? C'mon...that's insane. I'm not an expert but the biggest psu you need for a high-end sistem would be 1000w. For this particular card (the one of this video) you'll be ok with a 500w
Let me rephrase it. If I were to use 2 hard drives, 2 DVD drives, and the HD 4830, how much wattage's will will my PSU need? Because I really doubt that I need a 1500W.
All right, my experience could help a little. I use 2 HDD (160 GB and 80 GB), 1 DVD Drive and the Sapphire HD4830. Of course a generic PSU is not enough. I use a TOPOWER PS3 420W (these are REAL watts) for almost 2 months and so far, so good. No PC shutdowns, no overheating, no problems. Just make sure to have a 450W - 500W+ PSU (good brand) with Dual 12v rails (16A - 20A+). My card runs fine, my videos prove it. And basically that's it. Hope it helps :3
oh, ok just wanted to know cos i will be getting this exact card next week and really, really, really don`t wanna ruin it it`s for my first build and i have a tendancy of worrying way to much
thx for your quick answer. I just have 1 last question in europe the socket has two metal prongs sticking out of it (that`s the ground) i heard that if i touch them i get discharged of any electricity and even saw vid`s where they used this technique can i use it or rather not?
hmmm...Im not sure on that one? If someone skilled in computers made a video or tutorial in which they used that, you could i guess. I just recommend not wearing socks, doing it on a hard surface (not carpet), and touch some water before (water is grounded) or just touch your case before beginning.
k i will use this technique cos i saw it on multiple tutorials. is a hard surfece like a pc desk good? the water will be simple since i wash my hands before touching pc components, and i will not wear socks. like this i should be foolproof right?
yep a desk should be good, just try not to touch a carpet or blanket etc. Even touching a tap for a sink is good for grounding. Besides that, you should be fine, unless you want to by a grounding bracelet. Actually, i just touched my tap and didn't wear socks and i was fine!! Good Luck
man just touch your computer case very often and you will be fine...and try not to move around more thank you have to...for example have all your parts and told close at hand....also keep components in their static free bags (if they come with them) just until you are ready to put them in
GTX 295 is a very good, but way over price for what it is.
But my one run's very cool.
If you wont my advice, get two gtx 260 1Gb in SLI and over clock them to the gtx 280/285. Much better then one gtx 295. And it's a bit cheaper in uk, by £120. :)
May I ask why it didnt live up to the hype? Its only 75 after rebate on newegg and seems to have some pretty nice fps in present games and for future. Just curious to ask. Im assuming your one of those intense gamers who like spend the money no matter the price as long as its the best!!!!! =P
wow a 4870 for only 75 in that case it's worth it. I was using it on a 32" lcd tv, frame rates weren't that high and was choppy even when i put it on a lower resolution. I dunno maybe my expectations were too high.
if you overclock it it will run faster then a 4850..but hey thats just me i overclock every thing in my system..life is good when your E8400 runs 4.45ghz with only 1.344 V-core...by the way the 4830 is the best card in its price range...and word of advice dont buy a gtx280 get a gtx 260 and overclock it your get about the same frame rates....peace out
Hey, could you give me some tips on how to OC a GPU and CPU? I'm building a new computer on tuesday, but my CPU is only a Intel dual core E2180 2.0 GHz... I want to OC it to 3.0 GHz but any info I find is always vague on how to do it.
im on my other account...you have to join a forum to learn how to overclock a cpu...but overclcocking a gpu is simple..if you buy the card and download the drivers it will come with a program in the catalyst control..click on the over drive option in the catalyst control and slide the bar that show mhz..the further you slide the bar with your mouse the higher the overclock...its that simple...extreme overcloking can get complicated though but at that point you need to know what your doing
both of my 4830 are runing a 700mhz overclcock....a stock 4850 runs 625mhz....i,ll have em both running past 750mhz soon enough i need to get a usb flash drive so i can copy and flash the bios....but these will hit 700mhz core with the software ATI actually gives you to overclock the cards
update...both are running 750mhz core in crossfire using riva tuner ....thats a 175mhz oc from stock or 575mhz...yea there now faster then stock clocked 4850,s....so let every one know you need riva tuner if you want to take the core past 700mhz
also i did this with out flashing the bios...i simply downlaoded riva tuner which is a free video card overclocking software and will overclock all most any nvidia or ATI video card...i hope this helps any body who is interested in OC,ing there card...peace out
they play games and i also have a lot fans in my case...a stock clocked video card can artifact if it heats up in a poorly ventilated case...both 4830..4850 and 4870 the 4870 which has gddr5 as its main weapon for a higher bandwidth giving it better performance..other than all three cards have the same GPU..only difference between 4830 and 4850 are the 160 shader that they laser cut from the chip thats pretty much it...my card has ferrite chokes and all solid capacitors some dont have solid caps
just take the core clock to 700mhz and there be pretty quick...there a whole review on toms hardware about 4830,s and 4830,s in crossfire benched against other cards...theses cards do very well and kick ass in crossfire even before you overclock them
yes all mobos work w/ gddrs thing you have to consider is pci-e or pci-e x16 or 8x they will all work but at the lowest bus speed but will not work in agp or 1x pci
will this play minecraft and lego universe?

nikosyv 2 years ago
It's not about who makes them, its all about where you live and where you search for them.
The 9800GT is the same as the HD4850. (altough, the 4850 is better in some ways)
So log onto a few sites, and check how much these two cards cost. Then you will see who makes the cheapest for you.
I would also suggest looking out for the GTS250. << This is an awesome card.

its not about shaders, ramsize or clock speeds. It's all about ALL of these working together and the stepping they are on.
Put it this way, if you can get a HD4870 or a GTS250 for $100, its your best buy.
If not, then look for the 9800GT or the HD4850.

But you need to understand, when a GPU is not being used it dosn't use its full power.

i don't think hd4650 does, crossfire, the hd4670 does but that will be the same as 1 hd4830, maybe..
afterburn13 2 years ago
is this 4830 faster then a 8800gt someone please reply.
bihohran 2 years ago
yes and its about the same as an 8800GTS
scarface122 2 years ago
but my 8800gt puts the 320 8800gts under water
bihohran 2 years ago
what are you talking about? the gts is better and more expensive than the gt
scarface122 2 years ago
dud i saw benchmarks the 8800gt g92 beats the 320mb 8800gts not the 640mb
bihohran 2 years ago
yes, it is better than the 9800gt and sometimes the same as the 9800GTX!
afterburn13 2 years ago
Can you have 3 of these with a 1000W PSU.
AMVDawg 2 years ago
lol sure you can. i think it's even enough for 3 295''s (if that would be possible :P )
thierryvt 2 years ago
1500w psu??? C'mon...that's insane. I'm not an expert but the biggest psu you need for a high-end sistem would be 1000w. For this particular card (the one of this video) you'll be ok with a 500w
pianoloco77 2 years ago
my PSU has dual 12v rails at 16amps each. would this be ok?
phsyconut 2 years ago
Yes, I have a coolermaster 500w 16a x2 and C2D E7300@7300, 4gb DDR2-800, gigabyte EP35, 3 HDD's and run very well...
elektro4000 2 years ago
ahh ok dude, thanks for that.
phsyconut 2 years ago
wow they dont do benchmarks anymore with tigerdirect ... wtf
thearmoredfatboy 2 years ago
newegg has this for like 85 bucks now. its so good. maxes out all valve games, fallout 3, cod4 and 5, grid, plays crysis on high great.

If I have 2 HDD's and 2 DVD/CD/RW drives, how powerful should my power supply be with this HD 4830?
vangstaz 2 years ago
what, dont rly get ur question?the best would be a 1500W
CoD4TopSnipers 2 years ago
Let me rephrase it. If I were to use 2 hard drives, 2 DVD drives, and the HD 4830, how much wattage's will will my PSU need? Because I really doubt that I need a 1500W.
vangstaz 2 years ago
All right, my experience could help a little. I use 2 HDD (160 GB and 80 GB), 1 DVD Drive and the Sapphire HD4830. Of course a generic PSU is not enough. I use a TOPOWER PS3 420W (these are REAL watts) for almost 2 months and so far, so good. No PC shutdowns, no overheating, no problems. Just make sure to have a 450W - 500W+ PSU (good brand) with Dual 12v rails (16A - 20A+). My card runs fine, my videos prove it. And basically that's it. Hope it helps :3
CAPCOMMASTER 2 years ago
OK, now that helps a lot. Thanks.

doesen`t the way he holds / touches the card ruin it?
IheartPCgaming 2 years ago
only if he is charged. (has a static charge) and he's probs not gonna use that card anyways, probs just for show
PatVRulz 2 years ago
oh, ok just wanted to know cos i will be getting this exact card next week and really, really, really don`t wanna ruin it it`s for my first build and i have a tendancy of worrying way to much
IheartPCgaming 2 years ago
k, you'll be fine, just make sure you ground yourself
PatVRulz 2 years ago
thx for your quick answer. I just have 1 last question in europe the socket has two metal prongs sticking out of it (that`s the ground) i heard that if i touch them i get discharged of any electricity and even saw vid`s where they used this technique can i use it or rather not?
IheartPCgaming 2 years ago
hmmm...Im not sure on that one? If someone skilled in computers made a video or tutorial in which they used that, you could i guess. I just recommend not wearing socks, doing it on a hard surface (not carpet), and touch some water before (water is grounded) or just touch your case before beginning.
PatVRulz 2 years ago
k i will use this technique cos i saw it on multiple tutorials. is a hard surfece like a pc desk good? the water will be simple since i wash my hands before touching pc components, and i will not wear socks. like this i should be foolproof right?
IheartPCgaming 2 years ago
yep a desk should be good, just try not to touch a carpet or blanket etc. Even touching a tap for a sink is good for grounding. Besides that, you should be fine, unless you want to by a grounding bracelet. Actually, i just touched my tap and didn't wear socks and i was fine!! Good Luck
PatVRulz 2 years ago
thx for all your help i will folow these instructions and will wright back when my pc is finished and up and running
IheartPCgaming 2 years ago
man just touch your computer case very often and you will be fine...and try not to move around more thank you have to...for example have all your parts and told close at hand....also keep components in their static free bags (if they come with them) just until you are ready to put them in
you will be fine man
Zlaja16 2 years ago
ok thx for your answer i have most of my components installed allready just missing PSU and GPU i will be getting those in the next couple days
IheartPCgaming 2 years ago
yeah if you do oc it will be almost the same
Intelpentium54321 2 years ago
will this work on a 350 W PSU ? or 450 W?
Magina33 2 years ago
it should...prolly cutting it pretty close if its a no name psu. But as they say..never skimp on a PSU.

2 of there in crossfire at 8x/8x, anyone know if it's worth it?
MarlonDC07 2 years ago
In sted, save up and buy the "Diamond Radeon HD 4870 Video Card" you will thank me.
MegaTechGuy 2 years ago
yeah i had the visiontek card brought it back. the card didn't live up to the hype, going for the gtx 295.
MarlonDC07 2 years ago
GTX 295 is a very good, but way over price for what it is.
But my one run's very cool.
If you wont my advice, get two gtx 260 1Gb in SLI and over clock them to the gtx 280/285. Much better then one gtx 295. And it's a bit cheaper in uk, by £120. :)
MegaTechGuy 2 years ago
sound good but i can only do crossfire 8x/8x no sli :{
MarlonDC07 2 years ago
intel motherboard?..
MegaTechGuy 2 years ago
amd
MarlonDC07 2 years ago
May I ask why it didnt live up to the hype? Its only 75 after rebate on newegg and seems to have some pretty nice fps in present games and for future. Just curious to ask. Im assuming your one of those intense gamers who like spend the money no matter the price as long as its the best!!!!! =P
crazyspooks10 2 years ago
wow a 4870 for only 75 in that case it's worth it. I was using it on a 32" lcd tv, frame rates weren't that high and was choppy even when i put it on a lower resolution. I dunno maybe my expectations were too high.
MarlonDC07 2 years ago
if you overclock it it will run faster then a 4850..but hey thats just me i overclock every thing in my system..life is good when your E8400 runs 4.45ghz with only 1.344 V-core...by the way the 4830 is the best card in its price range...and word of advice dont buy a gtx280 get a gtx 260 and overclock it your get about the same frame rates....peace out

Hey, could you give me some tips on how to OC a GPU and CPU? I'm building a new computer on tuesday, but my CPU is only a Intel dual core E2180 2.0 GHz... I want to OC it to 3.0 GHz but any info I find is always vague on how to do it.
Thanks.
NexusVale 2 years ago
im on my other account...you have to join a forum to learn how to overclock a cpu...but overclcocking a gpu is simple..if you buy the card and download the drivers it will come with a program in the catalyst control..click on the over drive option in the catalyst control and slide the bar that show mhz..the further you slide the bar with your mouse the higher the overclock...its that simple...extreme overcloking can get complicated though but at that point you need to know what your doing
SerialDiscrepancy 2 years ago
both of my 4830 are runing a 700mhz overclcock....a stock 4850 runs 625mhz....i,ll have em both running past 750mhz soon enough i need to get a usb flash drive so i can copy and flash the bios....but these will hit 700mhz core with the software ATI actually gives you to overclock the cards
SerialDiscrepancy 2 years ago
update...both are running 750mhz core in crossfire using riva tuner ....thats a 175mhz oc from stock or 575mhz...yea there now faster then stock clocked 4850,s....so let every one know you need riva tuner if you want to take the core past 700mhz
SerialDiscrepancy 2 years ago
also i did this with out flashing the bios...i simply downlaoded riva tuner which is a free video card overclocking software and will overclock all most any nvidia or ATI video card...i hope this helps any body who is interested in OC,ing there card...peace out
SerialDiscrepancy 2 years ago
Are they just running or are they playing games without artifacts? My HD4850 can run at 800MHz, but it won't play games without artifacting.
FortunexenutroF 2 years ago
they play games and i also have a lot fans in my case...a stock clocked video card can artifact if it heats up in a poorly ventilated case...both 4830..4850 and 4870 the 4870 which has gddr5 as its main weapon for a higher bandwidth giving it better performance..other than all three cards have the same GPU..only difference between 4830 and 4850 are the 160 shader that they laser cut from the chip thats pretty much it...my card has ferrite chokes and all solid capacitors some dont have solid caps
SerialDiscrepancy 2 years ago
usually i dont rant..but people kept asking me questions..so answered them...any more questions feel free
SerialDiscrepancy 2 years ago
update i just ran 3dmark 06 and scored 19056 lol with these in crossfire with my e8400 running 4.288ghz lol nvidia sucks
SerialDiscrepancy 2 years ago
is it hard to overclock. How much you need to oc
Intelpentium54321 2 years ago
just take the core clock to 700mhz and there be pretty quick...there a whole review on toms hardware about 4830,s and 4830,s in crossfire benched against other cards...theses cards do very well and kick ass in crossfire even before you overclock them

Do i have to get a motherboard that can use GDDR3? or do all motherboards work with all GDDR's?
WhiteNinjaHero 2 years ago
yes all mobos work w/ gddrs thing you have to consider is pci-e or pci-e x16 or 8x they will all work but at the lowest bus speed but will not work in agp or 1x pci
asus3571 2 years ago
Video card memory has nothing to dowith what memroy type you have in your computer (always try to get ddr3! 4 or 5! highest possible = faster
