You know people really don't like to be photographed or filmed while eating. Plus in the scenes on the boat, Shirley's mother only allowed her to associate wih her stand in throughout her childhood. So only one of the little girls was Shirleys friend, the others were just there.

@blakegriplingph Yes. I think it's sad that Shirleys Mother wouldn't allow her to play or associate with other children. Jane Withers stated in a book I read that when they were on the movie they starred in together, Jane said that she and her mother were walking down a street shopping and Shirley and Mrs Temple came down the same side of the street, Mrs Temple saw them coming and deliberately took Shirley by the hand and walked across the street so she wouldn't have to speak to them.

@Sheri451  Not true. The Jane Withers thing had to do with rivalry on the set between the two girls - Jane was an expert mimic and would imitate Shirley to the crew behind her back. It had to do with a doll that Shirley was given and Jane was not. Don't get me wrong - I absolutely adore Jane Withers; but there were issues between the two girls and Mrs T was just shielding her daughter. Shirley had a neighborhood gang she played with-she was allowed to play with kids who did not "admire" her.

@friendsfamilyaccount That was Jane that said that about Mrs Temple so that's just just to make her sound like the victim. The book was written by Dick Moore it's called Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, But Don't Have Sex Or Drive The Car. He says Shirley was nice to him in a movie they made together. I guess you can still find the book in a library. It was good, he said he and Stymie Beard were good friends
