I saw the film seven times in 2 weeks when it first came out. The first time with my girlfriend, then 6 times on my own! I still think Dr Zhivago has the most beautiful cinematography of any film ever made.
Goodbye my love, my angel, my everything.......Claudette Ronning. Please honor my Father and keep his name. Soon to be your Ex-husband after almost 45 years of loving. If only I could fine the song "Our Time for Loving Has Begun" with us on the bed trying something and Hope looking over her crib chewing away on her pacifer. It is funny now to Dad, but not so much then. HA. Of course no song was like this one. Our Military song. I knew I would live to see you again my love. We were one.
I must have seen this movie dozens of time when it showed at theaters in 1966-67. Pasha and Lara's love was torn apart by war. Their world was turned upside down, so was my "Pasha's" and my world. Lara's love for Yuri resulted because of war and survival, she couldn't find Pasha. His life became consumed by war. My "Pasha" enlisted during the Vietnam War. Yuri gave Lara his balalaika until they were to reunite. My "Pasha" gave me his guitar until we were to reunite. Great video and music!
Doctor Zhivago (1965) is the best movie I've ever seen. Since Zhivago was already married, Lara best coupled with Kamarovsky. I don't remember when was the first time I saw this movie, but it inspired me to find a Lara, and I did find one, a Russian girl from Moldova. I applied a fiancee visa for her, but a US Consulate couldn't bear to see us together. Like Zhivago, I lost my Lara too. I have to say there are no "public servants" in the US. They are more like gods.
Besides, the love theme from the miniseries is more beautiful. Plus, you can actually see why Zhivago is obsessed with Lara in the miniseries, and why he hates Komarovsky.
so do I. David Lean's version is a visual masterpiece, but the miniseries sticks closer to the source material, and you get to know the why and how of Zhivago's hatred for Komarovsky, and the horrors of war in more detail. Plus, Strelnikov's fate is made clearer. My only gripe is, how the devil did Lara get away from Komarovsky?
I liked the depiction of Pasha/Strelinkov and his relationship with Lara in the mini, although I do prefer Tom Courtenay in the role. I don't get how Lara got away from Komarovsky, either.
I don't know if she kills him or what (I've not read the novel in years), but I thought Sam Niell was PERFECT as Komarovsky, absolutely menacing in the role. Kiera Knightley was brilliant as always and Hans Matheson was a revelation as Zhivago.
I'm a big Hans Matheson fan, and Keira is pretty good too. Sam Neill did a great job as Komarovsky. I thought it was implied in the mini that she killed him, not sure about the book, I'd have to read it again.
oh. I thought it was implied that she killed him, but I wasn't sure. I thought that Keira, Hans & Sam were much better than-apologies to anyone who loves the 1965 version-Julie, Omar & Rod.
A cinematic wonder!

Maybe Keira is pretty good, but there's only one Lara: Julie Christie.

I enjoyed the miniseries as well - in many ways it was truer to the book. But I love this classic version too.

Classic theme from a classic movie, but I think the 2002 miniseries is closer to the book (and is better as a result).
