Despite being a UCONN fan, I really despised that game, and that team's complete lack of hunger. This was probably the most talented UCONN team of recent memory (more than the 04 champs), but they never played it that way, and relied on last-minute plays, which was disappointing for a number 1 seed. The George Mason upset reminded me of their cavalier atttude to winning, and it shows as none of the players (except Rudy Gay) found success in the NBA. You gotta want it, and they didn't.
As usual the refs 'mysteriously' fail to make calls against the favored east-coast team and UW is screwed again! Great game to watch but heartbreaking end.
here's how good and valuable Brandon Roy is (and how 5 scouts and GMs were on crack when they skipped him in the 2006 draft): his last college game, his Washington team, which consisted mostly of guys who didn't even make the tournament the next year without him, took a UConn team that had their entire starting five drafted down to the wire. tell me that is not a franchise player.
They passed him because he has knee problems (bone to bone in both knew), that is what has come back to haunt him and the blazers this season. The only thing that could slow him down sad he is such a good player.
That was the worst game i ever watched as a washington huskie fan. There was 9 bad calls i counted in that game. Who threw that dumb pass when ryan applebe intercepted that pass.
Hahaha. Yeah, they sucked this year. Too bad the Huskies lost vs. the Mountaineers, I was pulling for them. WV had alot of size. The end of the game was hard to watch.

yeah because UW football team is so good as well. oh wait they only won what 1 game last year, that is really good your right. and where was UW in baseball didnt see them at, while UConn hosted the first round of the college baseball world series which is given to the 16 best teams. Look what this game boils down to is Rashad Anderson has ice water running through his veins. Fuck the refs and their calls that shit happens in every game and if you ever played basketball any good coach will tell you never to blame the refs.
Rashad Anderson just could not miss in a clutch situation...ever and that is the deciding factor in this game.

It's going to be hard to get the No. 1 for the Boston Regional. I really hope they can get the job done.
What do you mean "still"? Should I retroactively update the description whenever my mood changes about the events that took place?
I am not worried about a pro Husky crowd (team nicknames aside), the same could have been said in 2006, and we played well enough to win. 80% of the crowd was backing up UW by the end of OT anyway.
I think Washington can go to the sweet sixteen, maybe even elite eight if their put in the right bracket. The key person on their team is quincy pondexter. They have guard play and inside play in jon brockman.
I'm excited! Washington shows strong sighns of returning! if we make it, which it's looking like we will, how far do you think we will go? write me back!
The fans reaction at the end says it all, In a arena that was probably 80% uconn fans and 20% washington all you hear is boos as the game ended. The fans knew that was UW's game.
It's a shame cause I think UW would have beaten George Mason and gone to the final 4.
Well sure Brandon Roy great player but basketball is a TEAM sport. The rest of the Washington team didnt do enough to advance to the next round. So washington fans stop your crying. It just shows how the Washington was there just because of Brandon Roy and not because they were a good team.
Bad teams don't make it to the tournament, and especially do not make the sweet sixteen. Brandon Roy was easily the best player on the court, I won't argue that, but to call the UW team anything but good is simply incorrect.
k first of all i never said UCONN wasnt good..they were a great team..i just said UW was good too. second of all, just because the other guys werent good at the next level doesnt mean they werent good in college and if u were a true college basketball fan u would understand that. Look at JJ Reddick and Salim Stoudimire, arguably the 2 best players in the nation in 05..what are they doing now? nothing! does that mean they werent great players in college? no.
r u serious? that washington team was very talented....brandon roy, will conroy, tre simmons, bobby jones, jammal williams, ryan appleby, justin dentmon...we were loaded and we should have won
Jamal Williams left it all out there in this last game of his UW career. He owned the taller UCONN big men when Roy had to sit. Its just a shame it went down this way Roy was set to score 40+ that night.
Ok heres what happened. UW with Roy were handling UCONN easily. UCONN had no answer for Roy. As the second half started Roy did something that left me cringing when he fouled a UCONN player on a breakaway. He should have just let him get the basket. This was soon followed by the Gay altercation and the double tech which took Roy out the game for several minutes. UCONN responded to Roy out by surging to get back in the game. The Huskies still played well enough to win but Jensen cost the team.
It was too bad because I think the Huskies could have beat George Mason. Uconn hadn't played great basketball during the tournament and UW would be off an emotional high from winning this game. What if?
When it came to the play that changed the game, Jensen's foul on Marcus Williams was the most costly to the Huskies. If Jensen doesn't contest the shot, UW is up by 2. Uconn fouls and, if UW makes both free throws, the leads is 4 again and a 3- pointer means nothing.
I agree, Jensen was the goat of UW that game, and often other times during the season. I lived right next to him and wanted to run him over every time I saw him on the sidewalk.
And you really have no argument for the two Brandon Roy fouls. He held a player which = a foul. He then started trash talking with Rudy Gay, and BOTH were given technicals. I don't see how that is biased towards Uconn.
if a techincal was called for trash talking everygame the coaches would need to pull people out of the stands - a warning to both players would have been enough
It might not have been them trashtalking that triggered the technical, it might have been what they said to each other. That sounds really bad, but I'm sure people ge what I'm saying.
i still remember that two day streth i was 8. The state of Washington could have had TWO elite eight teams(Gonzaga, UW) But Gonzaga didnt score a basket for the last three minutes of their game and UCLA beat them. Then UW lost by poor officiating so close
yeah, uw should have won. i was 16 when i watched this game but i still remember it so well. what this video doesnt show is how some of these "questionable" calls completely changed the moral of the game. after brandon roy got his two quick fouls he had to sit out and thats when uconn started to make a come back. Not only was brandon roy uw's best scorer but he was also our best defender. its a shame that this game was brandon roys last as a husky.
WAAAAAA, the refs the refs the refs, WAAAA!!! Like UConn has never been in a badly officiated game against them. The better Huskies won this game. Actually twice we knocked your lumberjack assess out of the tourney. U-C-O-N-N UConn UConn UConn.
Exactly. You only put up calls against Washington, but I remember watching this game, and over the course of it there were some very questionable calls that went in UW's favor. You can't blame the refs for UW's chokejob and inability to play defense when it really mattered.
Washington dominated the overrated UCONN the whole game and they were robbed by the refs. And unlike UCONN we would have beaten the unranked George Mason
The goaltend would have given UW the lead with 1:45 to go. Do you believe we would still have fouled while winning the game? You do not believe the game would have been played differently from that point on?
Wow that was one of the least thought-out comments I have read on YouTube, and that is saying a lot.
godawgs - excellent point - my eyesight isn't so good and my seats were in the upper level on the other side of the court that night and I saw the goaltend - plus what nobody talked about that night is that the ball landed out of bounds so it should have at least stayed UW ball - horrible game by the officials.
Well actually UConn saved the ball before it landed out of bounds but yes, it was a goaltend. Still, missed calls are regrettably part of the game and always have been. There were a couple calls that went UW's way in this game too. I understand UW fans being upset but the scale can tip either way.
most times i'll agree that when the refs are bad they manage to be bad for everyone but that was not the case in this game - from the goaltend that i managed to see from the upper level on the other side of the arena to marcus williams tripping on himself and the closest UW player being called for the foul to UW losing players left and right, this game was bogus-there is a reason why 95% of the crowd was booing crazily by the end, UW got screwed.most times i don't care but this game was awful!
why would you be mad about the trip foul? it was unintentional but it was a trip, it has to be called. nc state player tripped rudy gay in 2005 second round which allowed his man julius hodge to score an and 1 to beat uconn.
laettner's shot, san diego's shot, donyell marshall's missed free throws. uconn's suffered just as many disappoints.
uconn's just been at the end more often so they've come out on top a few times. if washington keeps making it to the end they'll win some of those games.
you miss the point about the trip foul - as someone who was there and sitting right over the so called trip - williams tripped on HIMSELF - his feet got tangled up with themseleves not anyone else - the closest UW player would have had to have slid into him to get close enough to trip him
this makes me queasy. the technical, the trip foul, the goaltend, out of bounds. its hard to watch. The huskies were making u conn their bitches. jamal was shitting on josh boone b roy was dominant and marcus williams looked awful. uw would have beat george mason. this game was bullshit. uconn is always overrated. Fuck u conn fuck rudy gay josh boone, hilton armstrong, rashad anderson and marcus williams. You guys won on dumb officiating nothing else. Uw was the better team.
as someone who was there - the officiating was a joke and probably the worst officiated game overall in a while - roy's technical was stupid (as was giving one to rudy gay) - marcus williams managed to trip on himself and the closest washington player got a foul for it, but nothing compares to the goaltend which was obvious - also hilton armstrong landed out of bounds with the ball after the 'block' - however, all appleby has to do is not foul uconn with less than a minute to go in regulation!
the state of Washington always comes out on the wrong end on all the close games. This game, 1998 against Uconn in the Sweet 16, Gonzaga losing to UCLA in the sweet 16 in 2006, and Gonzaga losing to Connecticuit in 1999 in the elite 8.
This game was great. I dont remember ever watching this game and thinking the ref's were terrible. Still dont. Only questionable call might be the block/goaltending. Close call either way. As far as the guy saying "the better team wouldnt have lost to George Mason"...GM defeated Michigan State, North Carolina, and a fellow mid major in Wichita state. So GM was on one heck of a run. Found myself cheering for them in the Final Four before they got blown out against dem Gator boys.
Marcus Williams was the best UConn PG ever. He was so fun to watch. He did get out of control at certain points, but he honestly thought he could make every play.
This video does serve a point though. It shows '06 UConn lack of defensive intensity. The '99 and '04 teams played fantastic defense to win their titles. Even though this team would have four 1st rounders, defense preventing them from winning the title. The '08 team has the markings for a great team because of defense.
It almost works that way dumbass....just because UConn lost to George Mason doesn't mean they were better, its called an UPSET, some people don't know how to argue or analyze sports, you are one of them
ur crazy the University of Connecticut Huskies 2005 basketball team were the BEST team in that game (hence they won, no matter how they did it and George mason was an upset) Uconn should have one it all, like they will in 2008 UCONN all the way baby i cant believe you like Washington lol they blow, and the pac 10 has nothing on the best conference in basketball... the BIG EAST
Brandon Roy wrecked on ur boy, Rudy Gay. I don't really like the Huskies, but Brandon Roy was dynamite. And the Pac-10 WILL have more teams going to the tourney than the Big Easy. That's a fact.
It hurts me to watch this knowing how it ended for my boy B-Roy.
It was indeed a "forgotten game" probably because the end of regulation and the overtime was played at something like 12:30 in the morning Eastern time.
I kind of see this game as the forgotten game of the 2006 tournament. Everyone talks about Northwestern over Iowa, UCLA vs. Gonzaga, West Virginia vs. Texas, George Mason over UConn, etc. A lot of people seem to just forget about this game and I'm not sure how, it was arguably better than all the games I listed above. Seeing Rudy Gay against Brandon Roy was a sort of "Game within the game," as well.
I guess there were bad calls on UConn's favor but there were some pretty crappy calls in UW's favor as well. That first charge on Marcus Williams is ridiculous, clearly a blocking foul and even if he had his feet set that's a shitty charge call, setting up for a charge in the back court is just a cheap play. And to answer your question, yes, but the refs always affect the outcome of every game.
I think you could make the argument that both teams were lucky. As far as the actual breaks during the game went, UConn was the lucky team.
Luckily for Washington, and especially for George Mason, that 2006 Connecticut squad were underachievers given the depth and talent Calhoun had amassed.
i rember i live in massachusite this game didnt end till about 12:30 but when it was halftime and we were down by 10 i knew it was gonna be a great game but when rashad anderson hit that 3 i knew it was over
True, despite all the calls that seemed to have gone against UW, if Jensen was competent enough to foul without giving up the basket, we still would have won. I hate that man with all my heart, he produced bone-headed plays in every single game. I used to live a couple houses down from him, I felt like breaking in and beating him after this game.
I remember that game. I'm not even a Washington fan, I was just furious to see UConn get tons of calls their way...it was BS that they even made it to the elite 8.
being from conn i gotta help my bro out.. mayb he was trying to say that the game was being played in DC at Georgetown which it was.. no idea what he meant by a team that played home there and btw U U U UCONN
U OBVIOUSELY a GWH fan u show clips of how the washington huskies played against uconn but u never show the clips of UCONN kicking there ass YES there are mistKakes but u showed evey mistake the uconn made.ITS TOUGH TO PLAY AT WASHIGTON,DC sweet 16 AGAINST A TEAM THAT PLAY HOME THERE UCONN #1

The fans reaction at the end says it all, In a arena that was probably 80% uconn fans and 20% washington all you hear is boos as the game ended. The fans knew that was UW's game.
It's a shame cause I think UW would have beaten George Mason and gone to the final 4.
Bruss969 3 years ago
Well sure Brandon Roy great player but basketball is a TEAM sport. The rest of the Washington team didnt do enough to advance to the next round. So washington fans stop your crying. It just shows how the Washington was there just because of Brandon Roy and not because they were a good team.
AllStar1324 3 years ago
You just contradicted yourself. Was UW there because of Brandon Roy, or because they are a good team? You cannot have it both ways.
godawgs06 3 years ago
i didnt contradict myself i said Washington is a bad team and was only in this game because of Brandon Roy.
AllStar1324 3 years ago
Bad teams don't make it to the tournament, and especially do not make the sweet sixteen. Brandon Roy was easily the best player on the court, I won't argue that, but to call the UW team anything but good is simply incorrect.
godawgs06 3 years ago
Washington up 10 before Roy went out. Tie game when he comes back in.
AllStar1324 3 years ago 2
k first of all i never said UCONN wasnt good..they were a great team..i just said UW was good too. second of all, just because the other guys werent good at the next level doesnt mean they werent good in college and if u were a true college basketball fan u would understand that. Look at JJ Reddick and Salim Stoudimire, arguably the 2 best players in the nation in 05..what are they doing now? nothing! does that mean they werent great players in college? no.
coldkid6 3 years ago
r u serious? that washington team was very talented....brandon roy, will conroy, tre simmons, bobby jones, jammal williams, ryan appleby, justin dentmon...we were loaded and we should have won

AllStar1324 3 years ago
Jamal Williams left it all out there in this last game of his UW career. He owned the taller UCONN big men when Roy had to sit. Its just a shame it went down this way Roy was set to score 40+ that night.
siakut 3 years ago 2
1. the guy tripped, he wasn't tripped by a player, he tripped himself, aka.. traveling.
2. It looks like goaltending, but it shouldn't be because it wasn't over the rim or near the rim for that matter.
that's just what i think, reply if you like.
dxdude2004 3 years ago
1) is correct
2) not correct, clearl a goaltend - especially to all the people in the arena who booed like a bunch of crazy people
1hooters1 3 years ago
How is that goaltending? And just because the fans booed doesn't mean they were right. =P I'm just asking how that would be goaltending.
dxdude2004 3 years ago
it was clearly a goaltend - as someone who was sitting right next to the basket, i guarantee it was goaltending
1hooters1 3 years ago
Yeah I kinda see it more now lol. But it still look like a block more than goaltending.
dxdude2004 3 years ago
Ok heres what happened. UW with Roy were handling UCONN easily. UCONN had no answer for Roy. As the second half started Roy did something that left me cringing when he fouled a UCONN player on a breakaway. He should have just let him get the basket. This was soon followed by the Gay altercation and the double tech which took Roy out the game for several minutes. UCONN responded to Roy out by surging to get back in the game. The Huskies still played well enough to win but Jensen cost the team.
siakut 3 years ago 3
Who cares? GM beat UConn next round anyway(one of the worst days of my life). NC#3 coming this march! GO HUSKIES!
dankodan42 3 years ago
It was too bad because I think the Huskies could have beat George Mason. Uconn hadn't played great basketball during the tournament and UW would be off an emotional high from winning this game. What if?
flowerflower20 3 years ago 6
When it came to the play that changed the game, Jensen's foul on Marcus Williams was the most costly to the Huskies. If Jensen doesn't contest the shot, UW is up by 2. Uconn fouls and, if UW makes both free throws, the leads is 4 again and a 3- pointer means nothing.
flowerflower20 3 years ago 2
I agree, Jensen was the goat of UW that game, and often other times during the season. I lived right next to him and wanted to run him over every time I saw him on the sidewalk.
godawgs06 3 years ago
And you really have no argument for the two Brandon Roy fouls. He held a player which = a foul. He then started trash talking with Rudy Gay, and BOTH were given technicals. I don't see how that is biased towards Uconn.
roflghetti45 3 years ago
if a techincal was called for trash talking everygame the coaches would need to pull people out of the stands - a warning to both players would have been enough
1hooters1 3 years ago 2
It might not have been them trashtalking that triggered the technical, it might have been what they said to each other. That sounds really bad, but I'm sure people ge what I'm saying.
dxdude2004 3 years ago
i still remember that two day streth i was 8. The state of Washington could have had TWO elite eight teams(Gonzaga, UW) But Gonzaga didnt score a basket for the last three minutes of their game and UCLA beat them. Then UW lost by poor officiating so close
patrickV27 3 years ago
okay around 3:56 the announcer yells " Dagger " after a 3 that put the team up by 6 with 1:52 left. Is that really the "Dagger?"
DIJproductions 3 years ago
Appleby should have taken hard off the steal - it such a bang-bang play that I'm sure he just would have been fouled by Gay.
gautamsingh 3 years ago
*taken it hard to the rack
gautamsingh 3 years ago
yeah, uw should have won. i was 16 when i watched this game but i still remember it so well. what this video doesnt show is how some of these "questionable" calls completely changed the moral of the game. after brandon roy got his two quick fouls he had to sit out and thats when uconn started to make a come back. Not only was brandon roy uw's best scorer but he was also our best defender. its a shame that this game was brandon roys last as a husky.
vasher05 3 years ago
WAAAAAA, the refs the refs the refs, WAAAA!!! Like UConn has never been in a badly officiated game against them. The better Huskies won this game. Actually twice we knocked your lumberjack assess out of the tourney. U-C-O-N-N UConn UConn UConn.
DrMls21 3 years ago
Lumberjacks? LMAO, have you seen a picture of Seattle?
godawgs06 3 years ago
uconn = more talent
UW and George Mason = more heart - which is why a team of 4 1st round draft picks could not make the final four
1hooters1 3 years ago
they did make it to the final four?
th3major 3 years ago
Exactly. You only put up calls against Washington, but I remember watching this game, and over the course of it there were some very questionable calls that went in UW's favor. You can't blame the refs for UW's chokejob and inability to play defense when it really mattered.
roflghetti45 3 years ago
Washington dominated the overrated UCONN the whole game and they were robbed by the refs. And unlike UCONN we would have beaten the unranked George Mason
uwhuskyman44 3 years ago 3
I can't watch this video without rage coming up all over my body. The refs robbed UW from a trip to the elite eight and possibly final four.

uwhuskyman44 3 years ago 2
sorry, where you there? i was and in the arena seeing it live, it was clearly a goaltend.

so these are 16 and under ?
lilballer1991 3 years ago
i watched this when i was 11 years old and it remains to be the best game i have ever seen in my life.
mosttly becuase im a uconn fan but wow what a game
timbawolveslyf2 3 years ago
the funniest part about the goaltend is the booing by the crowd - by the end of the game, only about 1/20th of the arena was rooting for uconn
1hooters1 3 years ago
The double technical was too much...
sinfulxchangez 3 years ago
Yeah, Bibby, your retarded.
Bellsouth10 3 years ago
the goaltend wouldnt have made a difference. they won by 6, wow you put 2 points up there they won by 4 big deal
mbibby10 3 years ago
The goaltend would have given UW the lead with 1:45 to go. Do you believe we would still have fouled while winning the game? You do not believe the game would have been played differently from that point on?
Wow that was one of the least thought-out comments I have read on YouTube, and that is saying a lot.
godawgs06 3 years ago
godawgs - excellent point - my eyesight isn't so good and my seats were in the upper level on the other side of the court that night and I saw the goaltend - plus what nobody talked about that night is that the ball landed out of bounds so it should have at least stayed UW ball - horrible game by the officials.
1hooters1 3 years ago
Well actually UConn saved the ball before it landed out of bounds but yes, it was a goaltend. Still, missed calls are regrettably part of the game and always have been. There were a couple calls that went UW's way in this game too. I understand UW fans being upset but the scale can tip either way.
dwilliams02 3 years ago
most times i'll agree that when the refs are bad they manage to be bad for everyone but that was not the case in this game - from the goaltend that i managed to see from the upper level on the other side of the arena to marcus williams tripping on himself and the closest UW player being called for the foul to UW losing players left and right, this game was bogus-there is a reason why 95% of the crowd was booing crazily by the end, UW got screwed.most times i don't care but this game was awful!
1hooters1 3 years ago
why the hell dont i remember this game!
ilovedingoandclancy 3 years ago
how do u not remember it. this was the only game i remember from the tourney.
i blocked out the george mason 1 lol
ostrand006 3 years ago
well, im not a fan of either teams. i dont dislike them, i just didnt really care, i guess
ilovedingoandclancy 3 years ago
yea that makes more sence to me now lol
ostrand006 3 years ago
why would you be mad about the trip foul? it was unintentional but it was a trip, it has to be called. nc state player tripped rudy gay in 2005 second round which allowed his man julius hodge to score an and 1 to beat uconn.
laettner's shot, san diego's shot, donyell marshall's missed free throws. uconn's suffered just as many disappoints.
uconn's just been at the end more often so they've come out on top a few times. if washington keeps making it to the end they'll win some of those games.
Guess10000 3 years ago
you miss the point about the trip foul - as someone who was there and sitting right over the so called trip - williams tripped on HIMSELF - his feet got tangled up with themseleves not anyone else - the closest UW player would have had to have slid into him to get close enough to trip him
1hooters1 3 years ago
this makes me queasy. the technical, the trip foul, the goaltend, out of bounds. its hard to watch. Uw was the better team.
jcy24x 3 years ago 2
as someone who was there - the officiating was a joke and probably the worst officiated game overall in a while - roy's technical was stupid (as was giving one to rudy gay) - marcus williams managed to trip on himself and the closest washington player got a foul for it, but nothing compares to the goaltend which was obvious - also hilton armstrong landed out of bounds with the ball after the 'block' - however, all appleby has to do is not foul uconn with less than a minute to go in regulation!
1hooters1 3 years ago
doesnt matter george mason beat uconn in the next round
mousebagg1 3 years ago
ALSO fuck Mike Jenson and Fuck Appleby for not takin it to the whole and also fuck the ref for not callin the goaltend
mattsvideos27 3 years ago
the state of Washington always comes out on the wrong end on all the close games. This game, 1998 against Uconn in the Sweet 16, Gonzaga losing to UCLA in the sweet 16 in 2006, and Gonzaga losing to Connecticuit in 1999 in the elite 8.
ITS A BUNCH OF BULL SHIT

This game was great. I dont remember ever watching this game and thinking the ref's were terrible. Still dont. Only questionable call might be the block/goaltending. Close call either way. As far as the guy saying "the better team wouldnt have lost to George Mason"...GM defeated Michigan State, North Carolina, and a fellow mid major in Wichita state. So GM was on one heck of a run. Found myself cheering for them in the Final Four before they got blown out against dem Gator boys.
franchize2k 3 years ago
Marcus Williams was the best UConn PG ever. He was so fun to watch. He did get out of control at certain points, but he honestly thought he could make every play.
This video does serve a point though. It shows '06 UConn lack of defensive intensity. The '99 and '04 teams played fantastic defense to win their titles. Even though this team would have four 1st rounders, defense preventing them from winning the title. The '08 team has the markings for a great team because of defense.
Crede06 4 years ago
Yeah, he was great on UConn, but he is a failure in the NBA. He does a horrible job on the Nets.
Boone, on the other hand, is a pretty good Nets player.
kcal007 3 years ago
Lol, the Big Easy is behind in EVERY RPI conference ranking. Hate to burst your bubble, but the PAC 10 is greater than your mid-major conference.
godawgs06 4 years ago
The better team won.
Leebo86 4 years ago
The better team wouldn't have lost to George Mason.
godawgs06 4 years ago
It almost works that way dumbass....just because UConn lost to George Mason doesn't mean they were better, its called an UPSET, some people don't know how to argue or analyze sports, you are one of them
diesel50 4 years ago
ur crazy the University of Connecticut Huskies 2005 basketball team were the BEST team in that game (hence they won, no matter how they did it and George mason was an upset) Uconn should have one it all, like they will in 2008 UCONN all the way baby i cant believe you like Washington lol they blow, and the pac 10 has nothing on the best conference in basketball... the BIG EAST
ilovenewyork55 4 years ago
LOL
Are you shittin me?
Brandon Roy wrecked on ur boy, Rudy Gay. I don't really like the Huskies, but Brandon Roy was dynamite. And the Pac-10 WILL have more teams going to the tourney than the Big Easy. That's a fact.
It hurts me to watch this knowing how it ended for my boy B-Roy.

It was indeed a "forgotten game" probably because the end of regulation and the overtime was played at something like 12:30 in the morning Eastern time.
walterlv01 4 years ago
lemme uprgrade lemme lemme upgrade...
cant really make a great argument when its this one sided
bobdole01 4 years ago
I kind of see this game as the forgotten game of the 2006 tournament. Everyone talks about Northwestern over Iowa, UCLA vs. Gonzaga, West Virginia vs. Texas, George Mason over UConn, etc. A lot of people seem to just forget about this game and I'm not sure how, it was arguably better than all the games I listed above. Seeing Rudy Gay against Brandon Roy was a sort of "Game within the game," as well.
dwilliams02 4 years ago
I guess there were bad calls on UConn's favor but there were some pretty crappy calls in UW's favor as well. That first charge on Marcus Williams is ridiculous, clearly a blocking foul and even if he had his feet set that's a shitty charge call, setting up for a charge in the back court is just a cheap play. And to answer your question, yes, but the refs always affect the outcome of every game.
dwilliams02 4 years ago
I think you could make the argument that both teams were lucky. As far as the actual breaks during the game went, UConn was the lucky team.
Luckily for Washington, and especially for George Mason, that 2006 Connecticut squad were underachievers given the depth and talent Calhoun had amassed.

It seemed like Jensen's ill-advised foul was a bigger facter than the refs...
DanielSong39 4 years ago
True, despite all the calls that seemed to have gone against UW, if Jensen was competent enough to foul without giving up the basket, we still would have won. I hate that man with all my heart, he produced bone-headed plays in every single game. I used to live a couple houses down from him, I felt like breaking in and beating him after this game.
