Fabulous team. Fabulous player. That team produced some of the best football I've ever seen back in that Summer of '82.
Zico, Eder, Falcao and of course, Socrates. Thanks for the great memories.......RIP Captain Socrates - Footballer, Doctor, Smoker, Maverick and Legend!
Socrates in our hearts and in the hearts of every soccer fan. He left so early. But he captained the best team ever, and was a charismatic leader on and off the field. Watching WC 82 and Legendary Doctor Socrates are among the very reasons why soccer is part of my life
I watched this match as a boy. The beauty of the goal but also the teams reaction brought tears to my eyes.
Socrates was a legendary and somewhat mysterious figure for a footballer. He was a real life doctor and his name sounded like he was aristocracy. Also the way he played, so calm and collected (for a Brazilian) yet very artistic made him special and the way he celebrates his goals with the whole team.
What a captain, you can see his team mates all looked up to him.
I long liked this player since I was very young in 1982. He was the typical balanced football man of the highest of morale, aside from the fact he was a doctor. This specific goal is one of my all time favorite. Good bye Dr. Socrates.
Very sad. He was one of the true greats: two footed, comfortable creating or completing and dedicated to the art of the game. If he were at his peak today and current fans could see him there would be no argument over who is the best player of this era. None. I would take Socrates over any player now.
I long liked this player since I was very young in 1982. He was the typical balanced football man of the highest of morale, aside from the fact he was a doctor. This specific goal is one of my all time favorite. Good bye Dr. Socrates.
I'm deeply sad and hopeless because this art that many knew and showed the world back in 1982 and 1986 is slowly disappearing... Thank you Doctor Socrates! You will always be missed and remembered!
Alot or people cried and not just from BRAZIL. THEY brought alot of people hearts when they lost to ITALY that day. This was all around the world. Football had decided to follow the rule of closing people down and making the game ugly. Maradonna and that Brazilian side really did play as if they were artists... That's why so many people from around the globe love them so much...and even more so THAT BRAZILIAN SIDE OF 1992! JUST THINK IF CARECA HAD OF PLAYED UP FRONT WITH ZICO IN THAT WORLD CUP!
It's remakable how everyone in the world was mourning Brazil's sad defeat to Italy in 1982.People from India,Saudi Arabia,England and America right across the globe were sad,but when a team like man u/fa lose everyone but man u/fa fans rejoice! It's called class, the gulf between the 2 sides is huge, and this 29 years on from that defeat,Brazil 82 and Socrates are still fondly remembered.RIP Socrates,a true icon.
I wish i was alive back then... football now is just plain boring and all about money. Back in the days there were still top teams like Barcelona who played for joy and fame. Now 75% of the footballers only play for money...
The 82 Brazil team played football like it should be played, and yes maybe there were more effective teams during the years but the joy and ease they expressed with their samba football with flair was unique and has never been seen again after. They were simple magic and made their country proud and made me an instant fan of the Brazilian team!!Socrates was the architect of the team and a great captain!.....Muito Obrigado Socrates...RIP!!
He was the captain of my favorite Brazilan team of all time. And he was in my opinion the perfect embodiment of pure Brazilian football at his best. I thought his 1982 team even had more charisma than the famed 1970's with Pele. When they lost to Italy it was the only time I cried about a team's lost. Thank you for the great memories you were simply poetry in motion.
He's the only brazilian player i remember from 1982. But i watched this game and many more from 1982 wm. Fantastic player who were so full of love and respect for his teammates and the other team. Not like today with bad language and lots of red cards.
