I watched this match as a boy. The beauty of the goal but also the teams reaction brought tears to my eyes.

Socrates was a legendary and somewhat mysterious figure for a footballer. He was a real life doctor and his name sounded like he was aristocracy. Also the way he played, so calm and collected (for a Brazilian) yet very artistic made him special and the way he celebrates his goals with the whole team.

What a captain, you can see his team mates all looked up to him.

It's remakable how everyone in the world was mourning Brazil's sad defeat to Italy in 1982.People from India,Saudi Arabia,England and America right across the globe were sad,but when a team like man u/fa lose everyone but man u/fa fans rejoice! He was the captain of my favorite Brazilan team of all time. And he was in my opinion the perfect embodiment of pure Brazilian football at his best. I thought his 1982 team even had more charisma than the famed 1970's with Pele. When they lost to Italy it was the only time I cried about a team's lost.
