For some reason when I see this I can only imagine an Abrams or Striker pulling up with odd looking rectangular canisters on the sides. But then they unfurl and unleash the descendants of big dog. Now instead of these things doing a dainty canter, imagine them doing a full stride gallop keeping with a tank doing 20MPH and sporting 50cals for heads. These things would scout for the tank and cover against infantry sporting nasty suprises such as RPGs... Crazy imagination, huh?

the mlitary will never fully replace humans with machines. I know this for a fact because Im in the military. the top brass loves saving money, no matter how revolutionary the invention may be, most prototypes just stay as they are because, well....we dont waste our (unlimited funds btw) when a soldier with human ingenuity can get the job done. If anything we would use robotics for mapping terrain and limited security under the supervision of human operator.

Unmanned aircraft was just the first step to or latest war technology. I did my time in the military as well. I honestly believe once robotic technology is perfected we will see them fighting battles. I dont mean tomorrow. Im talking distant future. But its coming Im sure. I could see someone sitting at a console clicking buttons manipulating robotic soldiers thousands of miles away. But nothings like being there and "getting wet" in straight up combat.

For the people asking why it's called a dog- it's because it points of balance and joints are like to a dogs. If you pushed a dog, you'd see its instinctive joint movements would be the same. I think that is really cool! Way to go to the team at Boston Dynamics!!
