@XxBlackRockBlankxX I'd imagine it works only with AE CS3 or above, I can't really say for sure, but I have not worked with anything below this, but this was done with CS3.

When I put the 3D stroke effect on the layer, i even can not see my logo . when i move the effect in the preview window i can see that the effect has the form of my preview window. so my mask is the full window. I did everything like but I have just the mask of the window... :/

ATTENTION: For those of you who can't Copy & Paste into After Effect!!!!

Try this solution... Open up Adobe Illustrator or Photo Shop first, or Shutdown and Re-Open After Effect. Apparently AE can't recognize AI or PS unless its open before hand.

The red X is a water mark from the plugin, if you didn't pay for the plugin it will have this red X water mark. What you are using is the demo version, buy the plugin and it will disapear

I have a problem. FIrst off I'm using Photoshop CS4 and I traced my logo and everything. I put the mask into the solid black layer fine. The problem is when I put it in there it shows the outlines of everything so its still like the pen tool but it says its a mask? I apply the 3D stroke but it doesn't show up.. What am I doing wrong?

it won't work if you just import a logo. you'll have to use the pen tool and create a mask of the logo in after effects, just trace it. then apply the 3D stroke to the layer of the mask.

you might just have to freehand it. Import your logo, Create a new layer, and put it on top your your logo layer. Put the transparencey of your new layer to 50%, and using the mask tool, trace your logo. After you have finished recreating you logo as a mask, then you can apply the 3d stroke.

I'm having the same issue as coolmann231. I drag 3d Stroke onto my mask and it says the 3d stroke effect is applied, but I can't see it. Increasing the thickness, etc does nothing.

Hmm.... try adding a camera to the scene, make the layer 3D. change the color of the stroke, maybe its black like the background is, check the transparency of the layer. I have really no idea, if none of these work.

Your voice is relaxing and i think you did a good job. I am looking for help using the 3d stroke onto a project of someone drawing. I want the stroke to follow the movement of the person's hand.. any ideas?

hmmm. i guess what i'd do is draw a mask in after effects postitioning the mask where the pencil is drawing, over time. And i'd use the stroke effect, that is already in the after effects presets and animate that on. or if you 3d stroke you can use that too.

Restart After Effects. Or have you looked in the effects and presets section adobe after effects. Maybe the plugin is to new for your version of after effects. You'd have to buy a legit copy anyways if you don't want a red water mark accross it

Great Tutorial, but I have one question. How do you make the "lightning" effect and then the metal effect, shown at 0:51 ?

there's a lightning effect in after effects that i just positioned to strike at a certain point, and the metal effect I had done was just a separt layer with a Fractal noise applied to it and tinted to a metal color, nothin fancy. You could easily find a metal texture on the net some where and just cut it out to the same shape as your logo and that would work, mask it on.
