Honestly, i got my jeep commander recently. I love it. its not 4x4 unfortunatly but its got a decent Magnum 4.7L V8 which does the job for what I use it for as of now. Gotta love the BIG ASS sun roof though. First Jeep i've owned and honestly, I may stay jeep for life now.
CAN THE JEEP COMMANDER REALLY STAY UNDERWATER? IF THIS IS PROVEN FALSE THEN OWNERS HAVE A RIGHT TO CLAIM DAMAGES FROM CHRYSLERIN CASE THEY TRY GOING UNDER AND THEY DROWN...
@leklek69 ::::: it is poor maketing, and i would hope people are not stupid enough to believbe an almost 6000 pound NON-aquatic viehcle can drive under water, i mean come on now dude, it is just smoke and hollywood mirrors....
@ilus101 Nope, they were discontinued in 2010, not that a year really matters. But for you Jeep fans, the Commander will be replaced with a Grand Wagoneer in ~2013. I cannot wait!
@ilus101 The Wrangler will probably get a facelift in 2013. The Compass will be discontinued while the Patriot may stay and get a facelift. The Liberty will be a luxury SUV, they say it would basically be a smaller Grand Cherokee, but bigger than the current Compass. And of course, the Luxury seven seater Wagoneer will be on the Durango/GC platform and will look like a mix of the Durango and old Wagoneer. Last but not least, there may be a Baby Wrangler... not sure how much smaller you can get.
any jeep has the power to go anywhere. Even a 4 cylinder wrangler. Those climb anything. Jeep engines are tuned to get the most torque. The 3.7 is a bit slow, but the main reason people dont want it, is because its a crappy engine. If only they still have the 4.0
Funny, I have a Commander but engine seized in only 2 feet of water. They should specify that only diesels can go through water. Their petrol engines are not that perfectly sealed.
@Blitz4000 If you know what your doing and keep your foot out of the throttle you can drive through quite a bit of water and if you pay attention you will see that covering your owners book jeep only recommends on crossing 22" of water stock
Keep my foot out of the throttle??? Is it that the wrong way when going thru water? because water will create more resistance when moving and you need to give throttle to increase engine power output to compensate for the increased resistance and to prevent the engine from shutting down.
Do you really know what you are talking about or you're just pretending you know something?
@Blitz4000 actually hes right, less throttle. u will go very slow, but it works. i just went mudding in a commander and the guy that was driving went through a lil stream and he went dead slow, i asked why and he told me it was the only way for a commander to get through or else it'll shut down. its got more than enough torque to keep pushing through at a slow crawl
I think its not what level of throttle you apply, it is the speed of the vehicle that matters to keep it from shutting down. Just goes to prove that the gas models are not well sealed as increased speed will make the water penetrate deeper into the engine bay and mess up the electronic fuel & ignition system. For the purpose of going through a lot of water, it is best to choose diesel engines because it is more impervious to water than gas engines.
@Blitz4000 oh yea i def agree that diesel is wayyy better. but in either engine its best not to run through it as fast as possible or it will, as u pointed out, make the water penetrate deeper, and where there is air the water will rush in faster making it more likely to penetrate into the actual engine and possibly cylinders causing it to shut down or stall. but yea diesel is best, specially bio diesel because the engines are better sealed

fuck jeeps and their bullshit. what is this advertisment for? a submarine car? no. well then what else does this commercial show? nothing at all. the vehicle starts and moves, fucking wow.
people buy jeep for reliabilty safety off road and no other vehical than jeep can reach over 300 thousand miles with no problems.. there simply the best and a trusting vehical
Well, have fun relying on your brand new POS jeep that is designed to have components break after certain mileages. Have fun trying to work on your new car's complex as fuck engine that they made in such a way that you essentially have to bring it in to professionals to get worked on. And know that they probably disconnect the odometer for test drives. Down with Chrysler. These slimy jewmobiles are to be avoided at all costs
im not talking about the new ones im talking about the JEEP 4.0L engines those were the BEST...all automakers make there vehicals impossible to work on with out a professional how it goes with the new cars these days... o and my friends dad works at a auto shop and just last week had to work on a brand new 2009 Ford f150 because of a shit engine he will never do that again.... older JEEPS are better newer ones are Ok
we have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the thing is in the shop at least twice a year. always a expensive repair bill. looks nice but thats it. I do know ppl with Cherokees{not Grand Cherokee} and they still run great. however
4x4extreme sports, what do you mean "the commander doesn't have a big engine" ? I love my Commander with the 5.7L HEMI. That engine will really move that almost 6,000lb vehicle. You need to drive one with the HEMI--I think you'll be amazed.
Why the fuck America shit don't have the CRD 3.0 ??????????
