Yes and then the constitution lists what the Congress is allowed to do.. Drug Enforcement and Social Security are not in that list. The Postal Service and coin and regulate money from gold and silver. As well as a few other things. Article 1 sec 8 lists the powers that congress has.

I can enter a whole debate but the reality of the problem was that deregulation of banks was a good idea in theory but it just didn't work out in practice. Don't nationalize private savings. Government should require employers to automatically enroll employees in IRA's or 401k's (while retaining the ability for the employee to opt out). Imagine putting money to work towards retirement when you're a 16 year old kid at a part time job. By the time that kid is in his 30's he'll be amazed how much money he already has towards retirement.

What the hell is this woman talking about? She needs to name a bill or a resolution or something. The only think I've heard of in the way of any purposal was to mandate businesses to offer a 401K or personal savings account to their employees. The gov would have nothing to do with it, other than the mandate. And you as an employee could take it or leave it.

I know I will probably sound like a broken record here. But if you were a retiree or about to retire and lost money on your 401k during the downturn it was your own fault. Nobody at that age group should be invested in mid-high risk products.

It is one of those basic principles of investment and is always stated in the introduction letter of all 401ks.

It would be a great idea for the GOP to push that students should be taught the basic principles of investing at the high school level.

I agree and nice name by the way. I go to high school now and there are NO mandatory economics classes or finance classes. I have chosen to take these classes by choice and they are not made challenging by the curriculum and the teachers. Most kids just get put into them because they don't have a class that period or they want an easy class to get an A in. And STILL some of them fail.
