This was the first hard backed book I read years ago when I was 12, I have since watched the film lots of times. Thank you for sharing this video it has made my day x
Thanks for sharing! I had a wonderful, wonderful German shepherd named Elsa, after Elsa the lioness. My mom named her that because her large paws looked like lion's paws. The bond I shared with her was beyond measure and it tore me to pieces when I had to put her down about a month short of her 13th birthday. She had a disorder shepherds are prone to in which the nervous sytem in the hind quarters deteriorates. She finally reached the point she could no longer walk so I had no choice.
I am reading the book "Born Free" in my class. Also, I think this music goes very well with the footage. Mike and the lions are so cute! I watched this video during class.
This footage touched my heart so deeply after watching Nature's program on the Adamsons and Elsa. As they say on the show, Born Free and Elsa's story shaped my love of animals, wild and domestic. Thank you for putting this on youtube, it's really magical.
I was lucky to see up close (really close up) 6 tigers and 1 male lion (caged) and they are so majestic....Seeing these little cubs reminds me of how big they will become. Sad to think that these majestic animals are sometimes caged and sent to zoos or for circus's, but I guess better than being poached which so many are unneedessly for greed! They are such gorgeous creatures from wherein the domestic housecat derives from. Thanks for sharing!
• In 1980 Joy Adamson was murdered. The brutal killer was a servant whom she had suspended after he was found stealing.
• On August 20, 1989 some European tourists were attacked by Somali bandits and savagely beaten and robbed. George Adamson went to their rescue, he was shot twice by the bandits - once in his thigh and then in his back - and died immediately.
@newberry58 Actually the program I saw yesterday indicates that he came to the aid of a solitary visitor who was being beaten by poachers. This story, from Nature, indicated that George was shot multiple times, with the entire lower part of his face gone. This story was told by an eyewitness, and judging from the photos of his ravaged car, I imagine its true. Still the end result is the same, and we still have poachers murdering today.
i jus have to comment again, i cant stopping this watching this clips it so sad its make me cry.. who ever killed Joy adamson should go to hell, if she was here world would have been place with Lion been friendly to humans and we would have able walk in the Park intead of driving a land Rover there
Thanks for sharing this video. If you'd like more information about George Adamson and are on Facebook, please visit the page I've created in his honor. It's titled The Father of Lions: George Adamson. Enjoy.
i wish you didnt have to put sad music :( Im ready joy adamsons book, wild heart, and when elsa died i cryed like heck :( Poor elsa i luved that little girl!
look into the story of Ace and John who raised a lion cub called Christian the lion, then returned him to the wild and went to visit him a year later, the reunion between them is on youtube all over, and it is also a true story.
Beautiful video.... to bad we Humans are so violent, even so we are intelligent but you can aslo say we are the dumbest of all aswell.. the world have to know hoe inportant animals are and how beautiful they are!. Elsa is showed the world that we all are born free and deserve to be free! made the world cry for her story!

I can still remember my mum and auntie taking me to see Born Free when I must have only been 6 or 7 . I silently cried all through the film but it left a deep inpression on my life.
My first time to see footage of the real Elsa. I barely remember my parents going to see "Born Free" when it was released. I saw it on television as a young child a few years later. For 40 years the story of Elsa has remained with me. Beautiful, poignant video.
If you look closely towards the end you get a quick glance of Patti Patti, the Rock Horax, who also befriended Elsa. Others have said it but it's worth saying again: the clip is both beautiful and haunting
goerge the park ranger shot the mum and dad of elsa because they were killing goats in the village and they found cubs which were elsa big one and i cant remember the other cubs name

So haunting. Very very haunting. What music is it? Or did the music come with the film? Thankyou very very much for posting this footage. I had Born Free when I was a very young child and the pictures always made me cry when I read that Elsa walked a few yards and died. Hey, I was only eight!

looks like the little kid is hitting on the cubs.
looks like humans just got to put some kind of hurt on the animals. maybe this is why the animals grow up to be so violent.
we humans show them how.
jagib2 2 years ago
Animals aren't violent, they kill to survive - humans are the violent species
Yes, the little boy was hitting the cubs but they were hitting too. If you watch it again you'll see that's how they play. Noone got hurt I'm sure
