Hi. I need help on over clocking my cpu. Here are my specs:__P67A GD80(B3)[MOBO]__i5 2500[w\o "k"]__16 gb Corsair XMS 3 1600 MHz[RAM]__Corsair A70[CPU cooler]__Zumax 625W[PSU]__Gigabyte gtx 550 Ti[GPU]. Can I oc it in 4.0ghz? Would it be stable? Right now my CPU is running @ 3.8 ghz. Pm me.

@damn606 Only the "k" edition has the unlocked multiplier... you can still overclock without it, but its gonna be very small amount and you can damage your hardware

I have a this exact CPU, and I wanna overlock it, like nothing crazy, just a bit higher. I've never done any overclocking before though, so I was wondering, what do I need to overlock? I have a 550W PSU, but it's also powering a GTX 460, so there's not a TON of extra room there as I understand it. My motherboard is an Asus P7H55-M LX, I don't even know if you can overclock with that.. :/

@HPATIGAMER Probably going to want an aftermarket heatsink/fan if you're going to be OCing that far. Too much heat or voltage will cause premature death of a chip (although if you're overclocking, chances are you're an enthusiast and will end up upgrading before the chip dies anyways).

@vanstraaten2 dude, i have 8gb of that ram but when ever i overclocking it to 4ghz i got erorr with prime 95 tells me that some worker has stopped working or some of the cores has stopped working, some times 2 cores stops, although @ 3.9Ghz i get no erorrs running 12 hr's just fine, can you tell me the voltages your running your cpu at? my board is msi p55 gd80, thanks.

It does make your processor faster, but if you have a core i7 or i5, or core 2 quad (2.5 ghz or higher) but there is little difference in performance for nearly all games, so it is not worth it yet. I have a i7 920 cpu overclocked from 2.66ghz to 4.0 ghz, and the difference is not close to what I would except or you as well. Not worth overclocking those yet.

Strange comment, like I have mine 750 also overclocked at 4.0Ghz and before the OC Superpi 2m was 46 seconds and now it is 27 seconds (thats almost 50%) and temps are stilling laying somewhere around 60 degrees :0

@buddah463 the i5's run on socket 1156, there are some (like 2 lol) that also run on this socket... but the main difference is that the core i5's can't do hyperthreading(8 cores) .. so there stuck to 4 cores... and the core i7's can hyperthread. If you have anymore questions message me.

There are 3 programs that should always be open in a overclocking video like this. Coretemp, prime95 with a few hours of stress tests and CPUz. Showing your clocks alone doesn't mean anything.
