If it wasnt for the TV series I wouldnt have picked up the books. That said the actor who played Richard wasnt nearly good enough. Im just gad there are so many of the books cause I just cant get enough. Ive just finnished FotF which was amazing! Its a shame the books will never make the big screen. The films would have to be 3 hours long at least lol and u would need a top class cast... Maybe one day they might dare do it, but I dont see it myself. The cost alone may put off film companies

Well like Terry Goodkind himself said each episode had to be a story in itself. They really didn't have much of a choice. Besides its what keeps the books interesting for me since they are so different. I may know the over all outcome as far as the series, but the books still keep me guessing because of the differences. Just about all shows made from a book go in their own directions. If it was to be an exact replica of the books then not much point putting it on tv could just read

Well I watched the series first and am reading the books to find out how it is suppose to end since it doesn't look like we will get a season 3 and i'm glad the books are so different since the first two books are based on season 1 and 2 or I would have been to bored with knowing what is to happen.

But you have to treat the books and show as different entities. No television series I know of is exactly like a book series its made of. Just try and think of them as being separate

@Jumpinsnakes Actually my favorite book was "Faith of the Fallen" which was more entrenched in ideology. I see nothing wrong with promoting your ideas of right and wrong in your writing. In fact I believe to truly be an artist you can not shy away from your beliefs.

I think the first 3-4 books had very powerful ideology of rationality and self determinism but it was all couched in the great story telling that swept you up on its own. It is my view the books after that became all about ideology and story/characters ancillary as I really had to skip over some passages because he beat us over the head with ideology.

He suggests people to start at either the 1st, or 6th book, the 1st one because it gives background important for the rest of the story, and the 6th because it is when he begins starting to talk about Philosophy. He also says that he doesn't like being put into the "Fantasy" Genre because it ignores what he is trying to write,

@IsilmeRobur Disney owns 'Sword Of Truth' so he can't call the pending novel a 'Sword Of Truth' book. Why would you be sorry to consider the books fantasy? They were intended to be fantasy. Is there some sort of stigma to the term in your mind? Perhaps you will get over it, any genre has great literature. I guess you don't remember when Kurt Vonnegut's books were commonly thought of as 'just sci-fi'. I guess he must have rewrote them to get them into the fiction/literature section... ;P

Let me guess; Richard and Kahlan are separated and struggle to reunite during the whole story. Richard must balance his desire to be with Kahlan with his responsibilities as Lord Rahl. Something happens which prevents him from using his gift, someone ends up in some sort of collar and when Richard finally figures out the solution, nobody will listen to him or give him the benefit of the doubt until something dramatic happens, reaffirming their faith in him.

Then, when he sets his plan in motion (involving turning some important, ancient prophecy around on itself) some major, longtime character suddenly dies, Kahlan nearly perishes and the Keeper is almost freed before Richard, at the last second, saves everyone and happy ending ensues. Until the last paragraph, where he either gets shot or kidnapped and separated from Kahlan again.
