All of the factcheck segments on the cable news networks this election year have been a positive addition, but if Americans were really reading top-quality newspapers every day, it wouldn't be so tempting to politicians to lie to voters in the first place.
I think the biggest threat has already really ruined democracy. The public is not informed, the government is quite corrupt, voting has been fraudulent in many areas, so-- I am not even sure if what we have is actually democracy anymore. There is no 'we the people' influence upon the government. They do exactly what they want. Perfect example would be arrogant Dick Cheney.
Yes, dick cheney is arrogant, i think that he is the puppetmaster,he been too low profile,that tells me,he is calling most of the shots,that is probably why sarah palin made reference to why she thinks that the vice president should have more power!scary!
The biggest threat to our democracy are people like Dick Cheney who when told that 2/3 of the American people want us out of Iraq, replies "So?" with a smirk on his face. That is the biggest threat to our democracy.
American Claim It Democracy Country But It Has Only Two Political Party. That Not Democracy At All.Why Don't It Three Or Five Political Party That Democracy. Why put circus Obama And Hillary their same Political Party.
I was impressed by this. I was expecting just a big anti-Bush/republican/conservative/traditionalism propaganda video. Instead I heard a lot of truth that treated all polotitions the same way... like they're all crooked!
tom feeny the same guy that rigged the election for bush wow cmon, enron over again just is called halibuton , kbr, and black water and use the military to sell it, wake up america, stop being lied too already
I think the biggest threat is Corporate America. Not from greed alone, but by the lack of respect for liberty and rights of workers...who are after all...people. Also, you have a middle class who abides by the rules and then you have CEO's who are above the constitution. Democracy and justice needs to be an equal opportunity for one and all. Thanks PBS, for asking a very important question.

We start out not knowing anything. The more we educate ourselves, the more comfortable we'll be in an information age.
It's not about knowing. It's about knowing how to use what we know to help us evaluate the credibility of new sources of information.

We don't live in a democracy - it is a constitutional republic.
Democracy killed Socrates. Why would we want to live in a democracy?!?!?!?

@dudeulartv :
It's a Republic, not a Democracy.
And yes our government is corrupt, just look at what the Democrat party is getting away with in the Fannie Mae-Freddy Mac scandal.
(They are being rewarded with the Presidency)
arrogant Obama and his cronies at ACRON.

Democrats don't hate voter fraud. They still support groups like ACORN.
