I just saw Doc and the boys on the Gold Coast for the Saturday night concert after the V8 Supercars. Doc went off!!!!! The Angels blew everyone off the stage. Every song was a classic.
Pure tube crunch. Great driving, melodic songs. Kinetic and animated front man. Solid rhythm section. The Angels just plain rock. One of my all time favorite bands. I saw them open for The Rubber City Rebels at The Whiskey in L.A. back in 80, 81 right in there. Blew RCR off the block. Still one of the best shows I've ever seen. EVER...
It's funny, the No Exit album when it came out got panned by the critics. But when you listen to the songs all this time later, most of them stand up quite well.
The final leadbreak in No Exit soars and is some really good guitar work.
I guess the critics expected another Face to Face, didn't get it and hence we're unhappy.
My problem with No Exit is that it IS basically another Face To Face, and from memory that's what many critics pointed out at the time. The successul formula is repeated, especially in the title track closing side 1, which is a carbon copy of "Marseilles". Don't get me wrong, it's a great song - and a good album - but they're not exactly breaking new ground here.
No fair enough, they aren't breaking new ground. Which is what The Angles chose to do, largely stick to their formula and just play around the edges with it on occasions.
The Angels subscribe to the KISS principle, Keep It Simple Stupid...This formula has worked a treat for Status Quo, The Angels are one of the backbone groups of Aussie Rock
