@WildManNatureBound obviously not, he uses an auger on the frozen lake as well as a snowmobile, he is teaching how people survive in these environments and make a living of the land, he isn't just being dropped in to the area and left to his own devices. Its an educational show not a sensationalist one.
@dowlingadvisor No, not really. Ray Mears is very knowledgable and its great at doing this sort of thing. Have you seen his other videos? Lots of great ones.
Ray Mears is coming to Ontario Canada in June 2012 to teach a Bushcraft course. As far as we are aware, this is his first time teaching in North America. There are only 25 spots available. If you are interested contact us for details!
must admit one day camping , I was caught as it snowed during the night around easter. Woke up in the moutains wearing tennis shoes in snow, and what got me going was a warm cup of tea and a good fire.
Damn... 30 years ago in northern Ontario, we bombed around for things like school or going grocery shopping using snowmobiles (kids had a mini-Skidoo, too). I wonder what kids today do?
Frankly, having seen Ray's heat-o-vision shots, I'm not sure I'd let my nephews do what I did as a kid.
Then again, we were dressed for the weather, we got there alive and todays' kids have modern fabrics.
Ray ain't gay, but if he was, I think he's the type of person to be very tolerant of his own homosexuality and would endeavor to make it into an advantage in a survival situation. Good lad, Ray!
@trybalnet06 I predict that 2012 will occur. I expect it to happen just after 2011 and, if my amazing powers are correct, it will be over by 2013. Then everybody will start being ridiculous about a new date, mostly Americans who watch too much TV.
pike dosent have parasites, but they do have quick-silver in them in small amounts i fished them very often when i was young, good fish to eat but they do have a lot of bones
"somtimes survival skills do pay off" lol u cant say that, ur not gonna find that fishing hole drill and bait and line in a survival situation, well its highly unlikely
@fuckinghellcunt They build those cabins and stock them in places where people are likely to get stuck. Then again, you do seem like someone who is worth listening to. Oh wait... no you don't. Never mind.
Don't need an ice drill, just makes things easier -- can use an axe instead. And if you start complaining about noone carrying axes, you aren't going to survive long without one in the arctic winter -- snow covers all the firewood except dead-standing.
I'm no fisherman, but small fish aren't the only bait you can use. And cordage is an essential pocket-material, as already stated by Mr Mears.
I guess its ok up where this was filmed, but most pike down lower, carry a parasite. Granted its better than starving to death, but a warning in the video would have been prudent.
@KickRocks5000 I don't know about pike in the rest of the world, but considering that he's fishing Swedish pike there should be no reason to worry even the slightest. I was kind of dissapointed of that he didn't catch Charr though.
This episode is how to live off the land and not a bear grylls like show where he gets dumped in the wilderness. Haters gonna hate

probably the greatest thing about the snow is that there are no niggers

in another series he gets 5/5 from the fishing holes. Is there a way to make a hole without that oversized cork screw?
What technique did the ancestor people around the world use?
The information would be greatly appreciated if anyone knows.

@LiFetommi
my guess: they could burn a hole through ice or hack it out
