Also, you list Tom Baker's theme as going from 74-81, which isn't true - the Derbyshire version was dropped in 79, with Howell's arrangement starting with Baker's final season in 1980
Ron Grainer was the composer, but the actual songs were ARRANGED by Delia Derbyshire (63-79), Peter Howell (80-85), Dominic Glynn (86), Keff McCulloch (87-89), John Debney (96), Murray Gold (2005-)
10th Doctor is my favorite - "Blink" was the first episode I ever saw, and I've been a big DW fan since... and Blink is still near the top of my favorite episode list!
Not only did you round up all the theme songs, but you hit us with "Did You Know?" facts...awesome. Extremely well done and I'm surprised that this has only managed 62 (63 with me now) thumbs up.
Added to my favorites and I'll be sharing! Cheers.
I believe that the way the times lords regenerations might work is there is a set # 4 the time lords all over the universe and when the time lords were killed, sense it was time locked, there barriers were destroyed and then the factors just expanded to include all the rest. So if my theory is true, then we have infinite more doctors
Great video but you missed crediting Delia Derbyshire. Delia arranged all of the theme versions up to the 1980 Peter Howell arrangement. If you're crediting the composer, Ron Grainer should be credited for every single theme as the composer not the arranger.
(sigh) they keep trying to change the past...The Master, back during the 4th Dr., had run out of regens and had to keep body hopping to stay alive, because whatever body he chose couldnt take the strain...in "The 5 Doctors" episode, The Master is given a chance at regeneration if he helps the Doctor. This means that the Timelords can give(and most likely take away) another chance at regen.
My favourite theme is the 8th Doctor ! When that big logo comes ROARING through "space" like that is almost breathtaking and that particular sequence is also my favourite when the music kind off "revs up"!
By the way Tome Baker is my personal Favourite he was also the "first" time I ever saw Doktor Who it was the episodes : Pyramids of Mars!
From then on I was completely hooked........Though it took another 20 years before I was able to see more Doktor Who episodes and those where post 8th Doktor!
Swedish television is notoriously worthless when it comes to by in good programs!
My favourite theme is the 10th Doctor theme because he was and always will be the BEST Doctor in Time and space he is The Legand That Is David Tennant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like if you AGREE!
I will say Tom Baker, Peter Davison, and Colin Baker (Colin had some fantastic speeches that really made the Doctor character the thing that the Silents fear the most) and of course Matt Smith is also a favorite
The Doctor has 12 more regenerations (11 if journeys end counted as a regeneration) because River gave him the rest of her regenerations in Let's Kill Hitler.
also the 12 regeneration number was one that Galifrey instituted as law. But since they can't regulate that anymore, in theory the doctor has a lot more life left
@Starguy256 12 regenerations has been said constantly by the time lord counsel in various different times of the show. End of time, the five doctors, the trial of a time lord, just to name a few. It's almost unwritten rule that it was the time lords that indicated their life span was kept at 12 by the time lord counsel. THere's more than enough proof that the 12 is a time lord thing
A Timelord can only regenerate 12 times, but The Doctor has regenerated 12 times. In Journey's End he regenerated, but kept his form explaining that he could do that if he wanted to. So, The Doctor's on the 12th live cycle, and can probably only regenerate one more time if they hold true to that episode.
@fbombv1 No, even if you count Journey's End, he only regenerated 11 times. 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd, 3rd-4th, 4th-5th, 5th-6th, 6th-7th, 7th-8th, 8th-9th, 9th-10th, 10th-10th, 10th-11th.
My fave companion: Rose Tyler. Then Donna. My fave theme is the 10 th doctors one. My fave doctor is David Tennant. My fave episode is either: Blink, Midnight, The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances, or Love and Monsters.
Time lords can probably regenerate more than 12 times. It would be silly if there was a set number like that. My guess is that 12 regenerations is just an estimate, like how a humans lifespan is probably about 80-90 years. An evolutionary feat like regeneration couldn't possibly be set to one number, it's more likely a natural event.
Tennant was the first Doctor I saw, so he'll always be my favorite. I could listen to the theme song all day! I like almost all of the theme song incarnations (except for the 1987 one) but my favorite is probably 1963. Or 2008. Or 2010. LOL! And if the show is still popular when they have a 13th Doctor, I'm sure they'll find a way to keep it going. After all, the great thing about sci-fi is that the writers can make up their own rules.
Favorite doctor is David Tennant. Brilliant actor. Favorite companion is Amy Pond. She could pull of a timelord. Wish Tennant and Gillan did something as doctor and pond. And favorite theme is the second series of 2006. Had the perfect balance of epicness of the theme and of the orchestra.
I like Tennant because he had fun with the role, & you knew it. He's also a fan of the series so you knew that he was: a.) in for at least 3 seasons & b.) he took the role very seriously. I thank him for that.
My favorite Doctors are Baker & Tennant. As a young kid in the mid to late 70's America, Baker was everything the Doctor encompassed. I think the first story I saw was "Ark In Space". It ran in syndication weekday afternoons in half hour installments.
Gotta say my fav theme is the 1987 theme. It just has such a memorable 80's feel to it. Brings back a lot of memories without even being directly related to the series.
My Favorite Regeneration is the 3rd. It was the Smoothest Regeneration in Doctor Who History & It was Unique because It Required a Little Push & It was the only Regeneration that Sarah Jane & The Brigadier Saw Happen! Warrant Officer Benton Walked in & Asked "Who's That? The Brigadier Said "That Mr. Benton Is The Doctor!" Warrant Officer Benton Said "You Mean He's Done it Again He's Changed!" The Brigadier Said "Apparently I saw it Happen this Time!"
The doctor can indeed only regenerate 12 times but tom baker once pointed out a machine on galifrey that, and i quote "Was designed to help a timelord regenerate after they've used their totaly number of natural regenerations" wonder if that machine might just crop up again, plus the master always found plenty of loop holes, he had something like 20 regenerations
P.S any odds i could get a file copy of that vortex loop? :o would make a great screen saver xD
@dante01234543210 I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Gallifrey, as Doctor Who lore states that the Time Lords themselves resurrected The Masrer, with a new 12 regenerations for the Time War. No doubt TLs have the ability to extend regenerations, but lore says that Time Lords limit them to 13 incarnations under normal circumstances.
@Bhssinger3 The problem with this is that show is immensely popular, and to end the show after 13 iterations from a line that was uttered once in the 70's is incredibly stupid, so in the Sarah Jane adventures, he does say 507, and in an episode i cant remember with David Tennent, he says 702. Its not and shouldn't be concrete. And don't use Wikipedia for reference, anyone can edit, hell, i could go on and change it to say my mom was a doctor.
@chubrock I have a feeling the 13 incarnations rule will end up being cannot, but that the Doctor will find some way around it. There is no way the show would just end because they ran out of incarnations.
@thewerdnna I agree, after doing some research, how concrete the canon is for 13 incarnations is pretty high, but i just don't see the makers shutting everything down just cause of a line from one episode
@chubrock Yes, I agree as well. The creators in the 60s probably didn't expect the show to go so long to actually *get* to 13 Doctors. But I'm sure that when we reach the death of the 13th Doctor (whoever that will be), they'll find some incredible awesome way to reset everything or give him more regenerations.
Daughter's name is Jenny (introduced in that 10th doctor episode). My favorite Dr. Who episode ever is "Journey's End" from the 10th Doctor.
My favorite spin-off series are Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures. They're just that awesome. And my favorite companion is Donna, because I loved her spunk, her wit, and her humor.
I don't remember his daughter's name but his granddaughter's is Susan Foreman. My favorite generations are 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 9th--can't explain why, they're just awesome. The best assistants are Susan, Jamie, Sarah Jane, Bridadier--he so counts, Leah, Romana I and II, Ace, and Donna.
"K9 the series" isn't considered a real spin off by fans sense its an Australian production that can't have any doctor who related stuff that BBC owns showed in that series however "K9 and Company" is a legit spin off so there are really 3
"Torchwood" "The Sarah Jane Adventures" and "K9 and Company"
The Doctor states in an episode in which I forget, in one he says something about regenerating all he wants, and then as the 11th, he says he can regenerate 702 times.
@TheTenatDoctor And in the Sarah Jane Adventures, he says that it is 507 times... lol. The writers have come up and said that those are non-canonical references, it is twelve times. Look up on wikipedia Time Lord, under the Regeneration section of that article
(1) Don't trust everything out of Wikipedia. Heaven only knows who put that in, and it probably wasn't someone who was in contact with official sources.
(2) The 2005 theme was not composed by David Arnold. While Arnold did compose a version theme, the one shown in this video is also by Murray Gold.
@TheTenatDoctor In the episode of the 4th Doctor series, in the episode "The Deadly Assassin," it is stated that a Time Lord can regenerate twelve times before dying (thirteen incarnations in all). Look it up. (Sorry to burst your bubble.) :)
@bhssinger3 Obviously, they are trying to fix what they said. The source you continually refer people to is WIKIPEDIA, which any ghit wrote. Don't forget that, at the end of the day, all the BBC care about is money. If the Thirteeth Doctor wants to leave and they still have a continually high-rating and successful show, they're not going to just drop everything and say "Well, we are absolutely forced to end this highly successful show because of something the Doctor said in 1976".
@TheTenatDoctor The master regenerated more than 13 times because he killed another time lord and got their regenerations. You could say the doctor killed all the time lords by running away from the war, so he could have 100s of regenerations. 702, for example.
@TheTenatDoctor WHEN does he say 702? He says 512 in SJA but that was a joke(and RTd confirmed non-canon). Barring outside circunstances a Time Lord can regenerate 12 times(and so has 13 lives). This has been central to the plot of at least five different stories throughout the series and been a defining characteristic of the Master from Tom Baker up until the new series.
Obviously they will circumvent it(as can be done, see: The Master) possibly through what River did in LKH.
@Wirrn river wasn't the first time lord to give her regenerations to another time lord...in fact two elements that called back to series 6 (colin baker) was the fact that under proper conditions a time lord is impervious to damage for 15 hours fresh after a regeneration and that a time lord can give their remaining regenerations to another time lord.
Lost episodes of Dr. Who were most likely destroyed. To save money and space BBC in the 60s and 70s wiped tapes/film to be reused :( So it is unlikely they will ever be seen, unless some one privately managed to save them.

I'm currently enjoying Matt Smith as the 11th, but I found David Tennant thoroughly amusing in the role.

I like all of the theme songs! Including the latest one with Matt Smith!
