I like to play Ultravox's version of the Lords Prayer loud to annoy the neighbours and then when they complain put on Siouxsie's version that soon shuts them up
The Nazi stuff was only used earlier on after punk started purely for it's shock value. Then neo-Nazi groups tried to get involved, and all punks discarded any Nazi regalia like a hot potato. So Siouxsie never wore anything Nazi by the time she started singing and the Banshees were formed. The Nazi ("Cabaret" stuff) pictures you may have seen was when she was with the "Bromley Contingent", who were followers of The Sex Pistols in their early days.
@madcapoperator Could I be an axis power then? National anthem would be either Carcass or Exterminating Angel. It'll be a nudist colony the size of Greenland. All the morbidly obese nudists will only travel by pogo stick. My reign will be like Idi Amin,George Bush,Vlad Tepes, and Margaret Thatcher rolled into one, with a migraine for good measure.
That's got to be about the weirdest comment I've ever received ! I was going to delete it, but then thought well there's no harm in it, so I'll just leave it.
@roddy76to86 Silliness due to sleep deprivation, too many John Water's movies,I apologize.I always wondered what that sound was between Mother and this track on Join Hands. It sounded vaguely like a train.
My least favourite song on "Join Hands", a filler. Had they shortened this song and added a few more tracks like "Love In A Void" and "Infantry" to album, it would have been so much better.
But the reason I uploaded it is it's part of Banshees history, and it wasn't already on YouTube. It was their first performance of this that got the Banshees up and running. Except they wisely dispensed with Sid Vicious on drums !
@roddy76to86 I remember hearing it then 1979/80 - Iwas about seventeen. I was fascinated by that haunting voice, only later I realised sche was singing Our Father! "Christine" was my favorite in those days Thanks for uploading!
drones are not thye old drones any more...like endurance punk drones...metal machine music on black mahlees all the way through Dancing because no one else will....(once upon a time:)
I seem to be one of the few that think The Banshees were best during their punk phase. Before alot of the poseur goths discovered them, but hardly understood them.
@roddy76to86 Love The Scream!Siouxsie had a real talent for getting into the darker side of the psyche on that one.Metal Postcard sounds so malevolent.
@OrchidOxycodone Yeah, I don't really agree that they were at there best with their punk stuff, they were always at the best. However, their Punk Rock/Post-Punk stuff was soooooooo powerfull, had a great influence on me personally!
Are all Canadian's mad ? Sorry, just being flippant, but as their earlier drummer Kenny Morris said, 'Here's "The Scream", perfection, a tombstone...'.

@roddy76to86 Oh yes, it was shocking, alright. Hell of a voice on that woman, no matter what she's singing. The band is now defunct, I believe. Pity.

I don't think this song was ever meant to be recorded. It should have been left in 1977 as a testament to punk's avant-guardness

Sid I dont even know. XD He's a better drummer than bassists, hahaha.

Apparently singing this version in church is frowned upon, specially at 3.58 :)

What about Joinhands' other songs?

I posted a couple more on, but all the other songs from "Join Hands" are available on YouTube posted by other people.

it is not the greatest song of
siouxie...nevertheless she's awesome!
flaming0moe 3 years ago
I would say it's their worst song ! But it was also their first, and so led onto greater things...
Another reason I posted this is that no one else had, and so I thought it would be good for the Banshees YouTube historical record !
