I read some really negative reviews about this EP so I thought I'd check it out and I actually enjoy it, while I am not really into varg's vocals that much but what the heck this is epic!
when i was 15-16, my friends were into black metal, they had their band and shit, and sometimes to practice or warm up theyd ask me to play bass, and this was my favourite song to jam among many others, man teen years were awesome

Nationalism is silly because the idea of borders is a man made idea. There are no actual lines drawn in the sand. Even if you go far back enough into paganism the very idea of land ownership is disrespectful thinking you can just take land. To create harmony you must give before you take and share. But mostly in this case, it wasn't foreigners imposing their religion upon the locals similar to what christian missionaries did upon various other continents. Christianity in europe was mostly spread by a group of europeans themselves. Remember, that christianity had become the official religion of the roman state by around 300-400AD, so it was the vatican that was to blame for the desecration of pagan religions(rather than foreign barbarians)

Reading his interviews he comes off as a complete dick to me, but I guess that can happen when you're stuck in jail for so long. I agree with SOME of the stuff he says, but he's a douche about it and acts like he's perfect, like Gaahl.

@sohamthe2nd Try bands within the 'Depressive Suicidal Black Metal' genre, which is built upon the Burzum sound. Try the band 'Life Neglected', their songs are very similar to the faster paced Burzum songs, like this one. None of these bands have quite the same effect as Burzum, though.

However, I have heard from some people that Varg is racist, as in he favors nordic blood myths pertaining to norse supremacy over all other peoples. Is this true in your experience? @sohamthe2nd Yes, he is a racist. More like a 'white supremacist' actually. He believes his Nordic race is better than all the others, though he stated he does not hate other races and he wishes them no harm. I may add that I am no racist at all, myself. I believe all races are equal.

Black metal is not about lyrical content, though they are poetic, dark, and esoteric in a very beautiful sense. It's not about technicality, like all these faggot brutal-death bands. No one gives a shit if you can play 350 BPM, if there is no feeling behind the music. Burzum captures the true kvlt spirit of Black Metal.
I hate these band wagon assholes who jerk-off to the new Burzum album and don't know a goddamn thing about the 2nd wave.
The guitars and drums fit like a puzzle. I read the purpose of his music was to put the listener in a sort of trance; I don't know. The riff almost drives me into a dark, comfortable frenzy. I am a fan for life.
@orkeimmortal No you are not right, he is a great musicican and there is nothing wrong with the simplicity... it's not about riff masturba,tion with varg which can also be very good but it's about the atmosphere... the feeling. You need to have the right mind set to truely appreciate this music. If you want to headbang and go wild listen to something else, and there is nothing wrong with that because i enjoy that myself but Burzum is not for that.

@strikeout1991 There weren't rivalry, I think they were friends or something since they both played in Mayhem, but then Burzum started to sell more and Euronymous thought it's Varg's fault that Mayhem didn't sell much, then he planned to kill Varg, and he told it to his friend, and the friend told it to Varg. Varg went to Euronymous's house, who was scared as hell. Even if Varg only went to negotiate with him, Euro reached for a shotgun but he couldn't. He tried to escape, but Varg killed him.

@orkeimmortal No you are not right, he is a great musicican and there is nothing wrong with the simplicity... it's not about riff masturba,tion with varg which can also be very good but it's about the atmosphere... the feeling. You need to have the right mind set to truely appreciate this music. If you want to headbang and go wild listen to something else, and there is nothing wrong with that because i enjoy that myself but Burzum is not for that.

@strikeout1991 There weren't rivalry, I think they were friends or something since they both played in Mayhem, but then Burzum started to sell more and Euronymous thought it's Varg's fault that Mayhem didn't sell much, then he planned to kill Varg, and he told it to his friend, and the friend told it to Varg. Varg went to Euronymous's house, who was scared as hell. Even if Varg only went to negotiate with him, Euro reached for a shotgun but he couldn't. He tried to escape, but Varg killed him.
