Oh by the way,,on our last two trips back to Scotland we stayed for a few nights at the Cuillin Hills Hotel in Portree, Isle of Skye.
In all my travels I never tasted food like it, beautiful accomodation and the best of staff, what a pleasure and a delightful base to explore the lovely Isle.
My dear wife is Canadian from Victoria B.C. she is so well versed in Scottish history,,quite amazing indeed.
Scotland has a unique beauty I miss her shores and always will.
@jeanmunn We stayed at that hotel too and had dinner there. You're right. The food was great and the view from the hotel was terrific. Skye is such a wonderful place. Hope you've had a chance to look at my other video of Portree to Staffin. I love it that people admire the scenery. The great thing about Youtube is we can see places we miss and love. Hope you get back sometime soon. I bet your wife is as scottish as you. I love the Canadians. Great people and hope to go again next year.
@jeanmunn Thank you for your comments but if you are going to make comments it would be helpful if you would make accurate comments. I actually live in Scotland, not Canada, and I know for a fact that there are lakes here and not just lochs. I mentioned some of the lakes in a previous comment and I suggest you check out the accuracy of the names of the lakes I mentioned, perhaps on Google, if you are still unsure.
@jeanmunn I was suggesting you should use google to find accurate official Scottish sites. But a simpler way would be to look at an official map of Scotland where you will find a large body of water known throughout the world and Scotland as the Lake of Menteith. It's to the east of Aberfoyle. You will also find Cally Lake just half a mile south of Gatehouse of Fleet. You will also find Hirsel Lake just north of Coldstream. I could go on but check it yourself on an official site or map.
@SiliconValet2 Yes indeed,,,I find it a wee bit strange indeed,,,Loch being a Gaelic word for Lake I would have thought that we could let the English have their lakes as long as we have our Lochs.
And my children ( all grown adults now ) still get a good giggle when I refer to some of the great lakes we have here in British Columbia as " Lochs " .
Aye and Lochs they shall remain,,after all it was just a wee bit of Gaelic I was voicing,,,,cheers,,,all the best.
@jeanmunn Well there's a strong belief that Mentieth was named Lake because the owner at the time betrayed Wallace and this was the Scots way of letting people know his English alliance , pointing the finger at him (as we do). That's great you call them lochs in Canada, I love that! Good on you. I love Canada too and apart from Scotland it's the only place on earth I would want to live. I'm told BC is particularly beautiful, so maybe one day I will get there too. All the best to you too.
@jeanmunn Oh I meant to add, I realise now you were just translating to the gaelic. I was just being pedantic and I'm sorry about that. But you're right that the gaelic is loch. We're both right in a way... but I do prefer your interpretation in spite of the "official" titles.
I remember being at this spot. That lake so reminiscent of Scotland in its shape and scale. What a gift. And of course the castle was grand, inimitable. Thorougly enjoyed the journey back there via video.
