Whenever my friend and I are together at the mall signing (we are both hearing) we get alot of stares, mostly from children..that doesn't bother us too much. Adults will give us weird glances but for the most part it's not a problem. I'm just a hearie, though. :) I'm sure my experience is quite different from that of a deaf person.

yep, i got a lot of stare from children or adult. ugh, so annoying, but not bother me at all if stare for a min or less. but for a while, so annoying. ugh!

I think your experience is not different, it is same as deaf people experienced. Who's know. :-)

once upon a time [a few times] my ex roommate and i rode bus together, discovered a boy watching us. turned out he knew signs, he's one of the CODA. once when I was a kid, my mom and i discovered a woman staring at us but wasn't until after she was getting ready to leave, she told us she was deaf.

usually whenever people makes fun of us, we just let it go. it never bothered us but it did bother us if they just STARE!!! it's so annoying.

I've felt bad, got mad, got digusted, turned off, etc etc by those people. Don't let them bother you really!! As I got older, I have learnt to shrug it off and not get all upset about it. Don't take it too personal next time okay :)

Some people that made fun of sign language end up learning sign language. I've had met people who told me that.  Don't give them a reason to hate deaf people by beating them up lol ;) Good luck in college and take care.

Hello Owens.

Well, I have been around alot of people in the past and I just shrug it off. They just have no life and they think low of themselves so they try to feel good by making fun of others.

You should have stared at them laughed and roll eyes. They will feel VERY VERY stupid. Now for someone who is staring at you, stare back. (not a child or you'll probably get accused of stalking the child lol) children are curious by nature and nothing wrong with that. :) Just ignore them!
