official world ranking? first of all, that was years ago, and second of all that is list is completely wrong. yngwie's maximum speed is 18.6 nps in blitzkrieg. paul's is 20.5 nps in snakebite. rusty colley hits 24 nps in under the influence and michael angelo batio has never made it past 23 nps. the great kat is actually very slow. i could easily play faster than her. francesco fareri is faster than all the guitarist mentioned on that list hitting 33 nps in suspension.

Michael Angelo Batio is one of the only ones in here that plays with musicality and emotion. and his songs get stuck in my head. unlike any of the others. i respect all the guitarists on here, but yes i do think MAB is the best. but to me, its like this:

Well, there's speed and then there's that something extra. You like it or you don't, but it's got nothing to do with speed. So my personal taste would whittle your list down to 3 in no order - Malmsteen, Gilbert, Batio. It leaves 2 spaces. Paco de Lucia and Marty Friedman.

Don't read too much into who is the "best guitarist in the world". When you think about it most of the virtuosos, flamenco greats, jazz legends, and super shredders are all on a higher level than most guitarists and at when they are at that point it becomes more of an opinion who people think is best. Some say its technique, some say its freestyle and originality that defines a great guitarist. I say who cares who is best, just enjoy their awesome playing ability. \m/
