I was glad when I got rid of Windows Vista and got Windows 7 instead. I heard Windows Vista had to many viruses and I believe it was a test as well.

Windows vista 64 bit had major blues! I have had faced several cases where it use to take 5~6 minutes to shutdown and 9~10 minutes to restart!

Hibernate at times works well but again not a permanent remedy to get rid of it.

Msconfig can tweak a bit but again improvement is just OK. Windows 7 is far better to invest upon and both 32bit and 64 bit works well.

The speed and load time of basicly everything is the same on both and i got 2 blue screens on windows 7 when i first had it and i had this for 2 months now and still running flawless!

yes it is free, you can still download it from the microsoft website, it is the almost complete version that should be released properly in a couple of months

To hasten boot speed, I recommend the following steps:

1) Disable TTM during Vista startup

2) Either go to services.msc or msconfig and disable all the unnecessary startup apps with the help of startup inspector.

3) Use CCleaner to clear your registry files, temporary files etc and use a custom defrag (I use a modified version of TweakXP).

4) Disable all Aero effects and what not.

5) Type 'regedit' in the run application and edit the HKEY LOCAL MACHINE settings.

did most of that and it seems to be better now. i've gone for about 15 months so far without having to reinstall vista, yes i know that may sound bad and all but it just takes too god dam long to get all my programs and custom settings back to where they where. besides i think wiping your computer everytime it starts to slow down is just a lazy quick fix.
