i don't get why Eric Forrest is more regarded as a vocalist. He uses that aggressive growl/screech style better than just about anyone else who uses it. Unlike most of them, however, you can understand Eric perfectly.
Yeah dudes this album is really good...late in the game for a metal album...i think they really helped carry metal into the year 2000..i really think Pantera and Metallica are weak compared to this stuff...wereas most metal groups (even to this day)..find a buzz sound and rape the ^%#& out of it for popularity..not VoiVod they are to the core...there are no RATM clones here!...and i agree wit that comment so heavy...this was the heaviest i have ever heard in parts of the album
the only time i've ever seen voivod live was with eric forest singing. they were so tight, and eric's voice is amazing, live. i love negatron and phobos .
I liked this album better than Negatron, too. It's what King Crimson would sound like if they played metal. The best of the Forrest era. It's an easy listen, but presents its own shades of complexity and wonder.
The groove with the drumming is one of a kind...they really capture the "Soul of the Vampire" sound i heard them talking about one time..btw check out Forlorn on this album too!
sorry, this is not Voivod. At least to me it's not, my ears don't like what they hear when my eyes read that this is Voivod.. very sad. Best albums of theirs were and still are war and pain, Rrroooaaarrr, killing technology, dimension hatross and nothing face.
you should listen to the entire album, it's really not one to split into separate tracks, esp not when cut for a video. it has a vibe like no other, like the soundtrack to the scariest sci-fi movie never made. I've been a VoiVod fan for 25 years, and IMO that album ties with Hatross as their best.
Its interesting: I hate Negatron, but Phobos is pure genius. If I were stranded on a desert island, this is one of the albums I would need to have with me.
Too bad they brutalized the song for the video - ruined it really. Listen to the CD, its much better.
Damn, I love this classic Voivod song. Phobos, Nothingface, War & Pain, Killing Technology, and Angel Rat are Voivod's best albums. R.I.P. Piggy, not just for your legacy, creativity, and big heart, but for your legendary psychedelically heavy guitar playing, you awesome dude.
I do like the two albums that Eric Forrest did with Voivod. I think He was more heavier than snake but snake is more psychedellic in a way. Though I would of thought they would have continued with this style for the follow up albums but instead they just picked where they left off with THE OUTER LIMITS. Comes to show that NEGATRON and PHOBOS where just experimentals. R.I.P. Piggy.
I think Eric Forrest was a breath of fresh air. He gave some heavier life to Voivod again. I think people who're only fans of the first 3 albums enjoyed these two. I like Negatron quite a bit.
I listened to early voivod as a kid and they are one of the few bands that i have "rediscovered" or "came back to" as an adult that are still as interesting now as they were "then".
A lot of people have mixed on Eric Forrest's time in Voivod. As a fairly new fan, I don't have a bias either way. I happen to prefer Eric's voice because with it demands a heavier style of playing from Piggy, which I wish he would've taken better advantage of as evidenced in THIS song. Not to disparage Snake's style, though, because I do like his punk-influenced vocals that Piggy complemented perfectly with straight-ahead riffs like "X-Stream" or more progressive stuff like "Clouds In My House".
I was surprised to find through project playlist that this song was over 6 minutes long, and when I listened to it, I found most of the "spacey" parts unnecessary, while they did cut some of the verses, which made wonder why the hell they did that.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is so boring, a mutilated version of Voivod pandering to the Lowest Common denominator. This music is so empty, utterly limp and weak. They should have called this "Inerect" instead of Insect. This is not VOIVOD this VOIVOD with its balls cut off. This was such a waste of Piggy's limited time..They could have produced more incredible music as VOIVOD. Now piggy is Dead...hopeless fuckin world
pigy showed tommy from prong how to play in this way.
