  • I have wondered for years how to remove those pesky little push pins. Thanks!

  • @matdean2002ec np, glad to help!

  • i am trying to do this to a 2004 toyota tacoma. The original unit looks exactly like the one you pulled out, EXCEPT there's a huge black (power??) cable coming off the back and it can't be pulled out. Do i cut it?

  • @blorkensoft sounds like its probably the antenna wire? that would be my guess, check and see if it has a dot of solder holding it on, ive seen that done before

  • @RandomWeekendVideo hey man i was wondering if you really have to change the wiring harnest???

  • @MCORADO95 no, you could always just modify it

  • @RandomWeekendVideo would you be able to make a video on how to do that or explain it me lol thanks alot man

  • So good! Saved me so much stress and tears!

    Cheers mate!

  • @AtMPhrek Thanks for the comment, glad it helped you out!

  • toyotas are always easy to install aftermarket radios! unlike FORDS requiring special tool and kit that cost ALOT!

  • @1:55 the wiring that attaches to the back of the head unit, what does that attach to? its the second and third set of wires that are held up. what's the name of that piece(s) and where can i get it?

  • @ghettohoopstar02 The wire that attaches to the head unit then attaches to the factory harness kit for the car which in this case is two separate plugs, so all three pieces are combined. The two pieces are the factory harness kit and can be found almost anywhere on the net these are Metra brand and from crutch field

  • Hey can this video be used for other cars as well?

  • @BadBrad9925 Yep same principle applies to every car, just some have some make specific parts and details.

  • Great job.. I would like to know why Pioneer is your speaker of choice.

  • @ProtectABedTV I like Pioneer however in this case it was the customers choice not mine, although a good speaker.

  • you are the best ! well done.very informative thank you.

  • @pryinco glad it helped, thanks for the comment!!!!

  • That extra piece that went below the single DIN head unit...is that necessary? If so, what do you call that thing, where do you get it, and does it have to be custom fit for the car/head unit?

  • @wjdjoseph not sure what its called i believe it is reffered to as a double din adapter, it shouldnt need to be custom fit and I got this one from crutchfield

  • Hey, nice video. Very informative thanks. i was wondering where you got the double din pocket to fill in the gap? did you get it online?

  • @smithonian123 crutch field dot com

  • 45 minutes well spent in my education. Thank you very much. Never seen the pop out doovalackies before and probably would have butchered them if I came across them

  • @hellonewman1 Thanks for the awesome comment! glad to help

  • Awesome video, awesome instructions, awesome bike in the background and awesome job doing it one handed haha

  • @hockeyplayya2 haha thanks man

  • hey can you please explain how to pop out the speaker from the black panel? i'm sitting here trying so hard and it's not budging

  • thumbs up for when you saw the cupholder full of change and then you knew it was going to spill

  • @ShotgunRumble haha yea :)

  • very pro and nice job!!

  • @tonysalsa100 Thanks for the comment

  • How would you wire the speakers to the aftermarket cd player

  • @danti17 You would wire them right to the aftermarket harness instead of the car harness if you were going to run all new wire

  • @danti17 Running new wire or in general?

  • I would have used a lighter ;P

  • @Skittlesking haha

  • Thanks for your time Bro. This is the only video I needed. Great Job!!!!

  • @routerone Thanks for the comment, glad to help

  • Which wire did you plug into the new deck for the antenna? I have two wires, one is big, one is small , which one do i plug in ?

  • @mel23jordan If I recall correctly I think it was the big one....I just found out by trial and error, one worked and one didn't sorry for the lack of detail

  • haha, i love how he calls a hair dryer a "heat gun"

  • @tagzline u try useing that as a hair dryer granted it works the same way its alot hotter lol

  • @tagzline i love it too cuz its a heat gun and not a hair dryer....haha

  • I am putting subwoofers in my 4runner it's 2002 an do I need a new head unit to install it or can I use the original head unit ? Please help thanks

  • @mel23jordan I believe that they make a harness adapter that you can but get around without swapping them out but the only gain control will be through the amp

  • hey man does that spacer you have come included in that pioneer pack?

  • @madsniperjosh No that was seperate

  • great vid !

  • @iAMtheBAFF Thanks!

  • Lol handa dashs pop right off

  • @TylerShredding yay for cheap dash?

  • hey how did you ground the head unit, I noticed there is a ground wire on the OEM harness, but there is a chasis ground on the pioneer harness, please help.

  • @54321JRT I just used to ground in the chasis harness because this install wasn't very high-end. Sorry for the delay. BTW a direct ground to the frame would be best

  • should always disconnect car battery to avoid any shorts when splicing wires, safety first

  • do you know how to do it to the 2011 4 runner ?

  • @kauaisoljaz I would imagine it would be the same process, I could try to answer any questions for you

  • great video, extremely helpful. One thing though, for your wire harness, in my car when i connected the dimmer and illumination wires (orange&black and orange&white) it shorted out my tailights and front panel lights. Easily solved by just cutting the orange wires.

  • preciate the vid man. i jus bought a 97 and the antennae wasnt hooked up,so i took the panelin off an to my surprise no a single wire was hooked up correctly.thanks.

  • hi dude u do fantastic job it will help alots of people fixing their sound system

  • @ahsanz2z Thanks for the comment, glad to help.

  • @RandomWeekendVideo

Need to know how you removed the speakers from the plastic bracket?? It feels as if the speaker is tightly glued into bracket...

Thanks in advance for your reply to this.

    Rick in Salem

  • @GotSeriousMom sorry for the huge delay, did you get it?

  • Good job! I have a general question if you don't mind ... I just had a new radio installed in a 2002 4Runner and instead of the antenna rising only when the radio is on, it now rises as soon as I start the car. Is that a problem with a lot of aftermarket radios? Thanks!

  • @nener23 No that more then likely is hooked up wrong. Whoever installed the new radio probably hooked up the antenna power wire to the key on wire instead of the antenna or amp turn on wire.

  • should this work for any car? just different ways of taking paneling off

  • @adiosk8er151996 yes mate

  • THANK YOU

  • @sarzamineiran glad to help!!!

  • @RandomWeekendVideo sorry to bother you.....but is it possible to only change the speakers and leave the stock head unit in?

  • not to criticize your work, it is really good. one thing you forgot to mention though is to disconnect the battery before installing

  • @CMatthews13652 lol. That was a funny comment to make he he he he.. But very true?

  • @CMatthews13652 lol, i know you really need to but just out of curiosity, what would happen if you didn't. besides electrocution

  • Comment removed

  • this is the best video because you explain everything

  • I have the same truck. Can you tell me where I can get one of those pieces to go under the single DIN aftermarket? Ive been looking and havent been able to find one.

  • @justinkowalski I know right?

  • your video is awsome also it helped me figure out how to install any head unit. thanks alot.

  • @superitachi431 thanks for the comment, glad you liked it!

  • Where do you purchase the piece to fill in the space shown at 1:30?

  • nice vid

  • @fronteraomar thanks

  • do u need to soder the wires or can u just wrap them in electrical tape?

  • @waack321 You could just wrap then but usually the vibrations and bumps will cause the connections to loosen over time

  • Nice video. Thanks for posting . Really helpful for my install in my 99 4 runner. Thanks again.

  • @nvkulk Thanks for the comment

  • Great instructional video, i found this very helpful with the installation of my Pioneer DEH-6300ub. The only problem with my installation (in an 01 Kia Optima btw) is that after i took out my stock radio and put the aftermarket radio in, now the whole stereo doesnt work on either head unit. Now when i turn the car on the battery light shows up as well as the oil lamp and if i turn off my car the fuel gauge is stuck on its last reading until the car is turned on and it resets itself.

  • @DavY399 I just wanted to know your take on this, whether i blew or a fuse or if its some other electrical problem. A reply would be much appreciated, thanks

  • @DavY399 I figured out what the problem was, one of the fuses blew. I fixed it and now its running great so thanks again for the instructional video! Now im watching it again so i know how to take out my Door Trim Panel so i can diagnose the problem of my left front speaker as it currently does not work

  • @DavY399 Glad you got it working, sorry I could'nt respond sooner

  • @DavY399 Maybe you blew a fuse check your fuse panel in the car and under the hood, you may have a short

  • Can you install a normal speaker from your stereo in your home into your vehicle would it work or the speakers needs some connections? I have some speakers here in my house that I don't use an I'm wondering if I could put them in a vehicle and would it sound the same as the other vehicles speakers or not? And what would you have to do?

  • @TheBlueGuy1000 there wouldnt be a harness, so you would have to splice the + to +, etc. but it would work (in theory) I don't know if sound would be what you're looking for, but if you have free time might as well give it a shot lol it can always be undone

  • @TheBlueGuy1000 It would work, just check into the ohms, Also see if they have crossovers or not

  • so for the wiring harness and the new stereo.. were there any RCA connections? I am new to the whole stereo thing and i have a 97 4runner and i want to install my own stereo. what are RCA cables even for?

  • Hey, man. Where did you purchase the wire holder?

  • @mcsenget I'm sorry what wire holder are you referring to?

  • @RandomWeekendVideo

    The magnifying glass clipper thing

  • @bigDeeOT Harbor Freight

  • You Are The Best Thankx:)

  • @djshadyc4 Thanks for the comment

  • i have an 88 chevy suburban 2wd, the rear speakers are 4x9's any idea of where i can find those? and do i need a dash installment kit because i cannot seem to find one at my local shops

  • Great video the best I seen so far

  • @Djones3541 Thanks I appreciate it!!!

  • Great video the best I seen so far

  • great video mate.

  • @snistr84 thanks :)

  • they work with these.. search radio shack for Male/Female Insulated Quick-Disconnects, they usually are already installed.. and yeah i think ill run wire now, any tips on where to mount an amp? my plans are for a 4 channel and a mono block for subwoofer.

    THanks!

  • thanks for your video, it was very professional and clean looking. quick question, did the stock speaker on the front doors have metal clips already there? i was going to install some inifinities and when i did it with my honda the stock speakers already had the metal clips which i could just switch out.

    okay.. one more.

now if im going to add an amp in the future should i just go ahead and run new wire from the door? i was thinking maybe a 14 gauge. thanks bro

  • @jamartinez88 thanks man I appreciate the comment. Im not sure what metal clips your talking about? And yeah if you are going to run an amp in the future the stock wiring is no good you would save lots of time by running the wire now. It would make the process much longer for now but better in the future.

    Jason

  • Great video. I have an 04' so, it's a bit different. Im planning on installing an aftermarket radio, but my steering wheel has radio controls in it. Any info on additional wires these could have, or is it part of the factory harness? Thanks.

  • @JeffV16 Im not sure about that honestly I have never been able to interface with them before, your head unit would need to support remote controlling.

  • shouldnt you do all your wire stuff first, so all you have to do is plug-n-play when putting in the head unit?

  • Thankyou for.the advice. I have one more question. Does it matter if I use a 2 way or 3 way crimp?

  • @g0tm4d Either would be fine, just make sure you seal it up somehow (tape or heat shrink) because there is a lot of moisture in door panels

  • ahhhhh ! is it possible to install the speakers without soldering any wires?

  • @g0tm4d yea you could use crimp connectors, i would use the heat shrink kind or at the least tape them up to protect them from moisture

  • Sorry, one more quick question for future knowledge: How did you disconnect the LED on the ashtray? I had to file for 2 hours in the cold in the car because I could not get it detached. I phoned my father and he said you have to twist them but I couldn't get it off (maybe my fingers were too frozen at that point). That was the one and only wire that gave me trouble when disconnecting the dash.

  • @mmmansuy Haha I had a little trouble at first too. I originally thought that maybe the wire would unplug and be convenient like some of the gauge cluster bulbs but if I remember correctly I had to squeeze it on both sides of the ashtray and like pop it out. Hard to describe but its a weird design. Don't think your the only one out there haha.

  • @RandomWeekendVideo Awesome, I'll try it out. And dear lord, one more question...(I wish youtube had chat, haha!). You mentioned that one orange wire is for illumination/dimmer and one is a ground. I had thought the black wire was the ground? Do I need to ground the orange wire to the car or will taped off be fine?

I will post a short video. Mostly because I owe it to people like you who are so helpful. It will be my 'thank you' haha.

  • @mmmansuy I meant one of the orange wires is positive and the other is orange with a black stripe for a ground. I left both just capped off in my application. Some headunits and applications need the wire to dim the head unit. But in this situation both wires need to be tapped off.The wiring harness for the car side is really generic (kinda disapointing the way the make them but thats just me rambling haha)

Ok yea a video sounds good glad I could help.

  • Also, I modified my dash to install the frame that comes with my headunit. I'd be happy to post a short reply video of the finished product. I used a metal file to just create a larger rectangle. It came out really well for my first file job, however, with a bit more planning it would have been flawless. Instead, I was left with about 1mm of extra space on one side. Bad news? Not even! I ran my iPod USB through the gap and now run my iPod out of the glove box. So awesome! Thanks again!

  • @mmmansuy Haha nice, sounds awesome. Yea if youd like to make a vid of it that'd be cool then other ppl can try out your ideas

  • Thanks for the comment glad it helped

Your problem may be that you hooked up the two orange wires, one is illumination positive and one is a ground.

What do you mean by the extra power? The extra blue antenna wire just gets capped off if thats what you mean

    lemme know if this helps

  • What did you do with the extra power cord that came out of the original head unit? My 10V Tail Fuse under the hood keeps shorting since my install (actually same car, same unit). I'm guessing it has something to do with this other wire or the remote wire. Any ideas?

BTW, thanks a bunch for this awesome tutorial! Helped me immensely!

  • @mmmansuy oh are you talking about the extra wire that looks like another antenna plug? if so that just doesnt get used you just use the larger diameter antenna plug, I'm curious to see what the other one is even for its only the second vehicle ive worked on that had two of them, maybe there is a rear or roof antenna

  • @RandomWeekendVideo You're right. Def not power, haha. I have done a bit more research since the post. That wire I have left to hang free (taped up of course). I think it may have some relation to the tape player? Just a guess.

I spent more of my time focusing on the 'dimmer wire' (orange) as that ended up being the problem. I have since disconnected the orange/orange connection and taped off the ends, works flawlessly. I went through a lot of fuses and forums to find that answer.

  • @mmmansuy Glad its working, sorry I couldnt have responded sooner
