Verhoeven's commentaries are always amazing. His commentary track for Total Recall with Schwarzenegger is really interesting and unintentionally hilarious at times.
Are american movie critics really this dumb? Or are they fascist and didn't like being ridiculed in a movie?
Really underrated and misunderstood movie. Ironically and unfortunately it's was also visionary, because the "security against terrorism" in the US is killing freedom and reinforcing fascism.
I remember, when the film first came out, reading the Time Magazine review Verhoeven mentions at the opening of this commentary. I absolutely could not believe the reviewer was so boneheaded as to see the film as pro-fascist. You could not misread the obvious more if you tried.
yes yes.... verhoeven just changed everything about the book.... XD made up his own starship troopers... and the facism theme?? that was his own version... =)
haven't read the book in the while. Is the whole "facism" theme in the book or did they just do that in the movie? Just wondering because how did Juan (Johnny) Rico go from Filipino to Aryan? I mean in the movie he looks like a guy you would see on a Hitler Youth poster...

These guys completely misconstrued Heinlein's purpose in writing this book. A book neither of these two pussies read. Heinlein's masterpiece deserves much more than this... shitty shallow satire.
great movie; I don't get why many people didn't understand it. The movie talks about war,sex, politics, power, and it manages to do so mixing action,adventure and irony.

a didactic rant in favour of jingoism, militarism, corporal punishment, death penalty and host of other evils is hardly a masterpiece

KentAllard: They stated very clearly that the movie was a statement against "jingoism, militarism, corporal punishment, death penalty" etc.

@FalconTB
I think its funny everyone has noted you as spam but you're the only person who actually read the fucking book.
I guess it's true that liberals only read literature that tickles their fancy.
I'm off to read Kafka.
