People dont realise ali was so tired he couldnt punch no more he gave his all and frasier had a bad right eye from a kid so from his left been so badly damaged he could see hardly anything for ladt rounds. An he hated ali so much he wanted to carry on but his corner said no way you cant see basically an threw towel in yet ali was so tired he was gonna quit. Respect to both i say. Oh an ali technically for studying frasier cos he was so powerful is the better man x
Even though Ali won this fight, i think was the fight that fucked Ali up, before this ,ali was still quick witted and wide eyed, but noticed every fight after this like Norton 3rd fight his eyes looked lifeless, any one else noticed that ? Or is it just my imagination?.
@1968DrDoom What happened was that Ali simply got shot after this fight. He began to age and obviously this brutal bout didn't help, also he was taking way too many priced fights against every top contender there was. In today's era the champion usually fights ONE time a year(Cough Pacquiao Cough)...Ali was facing a top contender 4 or 5 times a year...that's crazy. This fight finished both Ali and Frazier and took the last of their prime they had left, neither were the same ever.
@folioboards Angles and head movement are more important than your hands. Lol.
Look at ali. According to what people call "proper technique" most of his punches are incorrect. Lol.
You would never tell him that. His speed, head movement, and the way he uses angles and moves around his opponent is nothing short of spectacular. Greatest of All Time. He showed us "How Great He is"
Mmm...you left out some important highlights...like when Ali knocks out Frazier's mouthpiece and staggers him repeatedly in the last 2 rounds of the fight...im so familiar with this fight that these highlights seem incomplete but you did a great video...I like it.
@GigaShockProduction Of course they are heavy weights...you kidding? Ali would weigh in at 216 for most of his fights. Frazier would weigh in at around 206-210 for most of his. In this fight Frazier was 210 while Ali was at 220.
Ali said he wish he could take back some of the things he said, but trash talk is the reality of Boxing.
Reality also meant that Ali had to deal with alot of rubbish outside boxing, such as Politics and Social crap the government kept hounding him with due to the black civil right's movement.
Ali was an arsehole in the run up to this fight. Pre-match banter is one thing, but making it personal is another. Frasier always hated him after this, and I can't say I blame him.
@Pseudonym25 The more insults the more money that was in it for both men. Its called promoting the fight. While I can't blame Frazier for hating Ali at some point(god bless him and RIP) Frazier was given a lot of money because of Ali's promotion and status. Its the name of the game sometimes.
I always remember my earliest memory as a 6 yr old kid watching Rocky 1. And they introduced some boxer into the ring b4 the Rocky Apollo fight. I wandered what it was all about. Then I took notice... 2nd only to Ali. R.I.P Joe.. One down - two more to go
Frasier....you were a legend....and all those other great Heavyweights as well....Ali, Foreman, Norton.....just imagine whats been passing for champions recently....Lewis, the Klitcko's.....and Haye......Frasier would beat them all in one night.
For any who doubt just how great these havyweights were depite this footage, consider this ... An Ali of this vintage, already well past his prime (which was the Liston and pre 'Nam period in his mid 20's), KO'd Foreman at his absolute prime. A man who returned to the ring almost 20 years later in his late 40's to win a series of bouts and briefly hold the heavy wieght title! THAT'S how much better these guys were than the modern era heavyweights.
@Chuck41148 Are U kidding..that is SUPER!! This is the fight that've I have watched hundreds of times as I use it while I'm working out to stay motivated to last my hour cardio sessions..Speaking of fight what about the dishounour of violating military law and scrapping don't ask d. t.?//
Joe Frazier's trainer Eddie Futch famously said at the end of round 14 of the thrilla in manilla before stopping the fight "No one will ever forget what you did here today" And not one person can argue with those words, we'll always remember....R.I.P Joe Frazier
I grew up in that window of time to watch all of the CHAMPIONS. In that time, it wasn't all about money, instead it was about the art of boxing. These champions fought with each other of the true sport. I got to watch on t.v. the boxing matches and in watching them they all stood out in greatness. Joe Frazier was and always will be a CHAMPION to the sport. I am grateful I got to watch these champions in their prime. They were and always will be CHAMPIONS.
There is no other era of any other sport that comes close to comparison to boxing at that time. Ali, Frazier, Norton, Foreman, et al. RIP Frazier, a class act and a great sports icon.
"Frazier quit just before I did. I didn't think I could fight any more.... He is tough. He is a great fighter... Joe Frazier, I'll tell the world right now, brings out the best in me. I'm gonna tell ya, that's one helluva man, and God bless him." -- Muhammad Ali

@LimaUnite Yep. That’s why Ali subscribed to box for Don King for 5 Million Dollars (a massive sum in 1974) to fight Foreman one year earlier... So much for the myth about the good old times.
@LimaUnite er... i beg to differ. "back then" many boxers fought for money as well as anything else. Frazier and Ali were both paid $ 2.5 million for this fight
@babybomber17 Money is a part of everything in sports dude... However , Do you see what they are today ? Ones Dead now , And the other is a walking Zombie ... Why? Because Boxing was much more "REAL" and Brutal then .. Nowadays you don't see matchup's like ALI VS Frazier or ALI VS FOREMAN or Other Greats , I mean Floyd Mayweather is a paper Champ , Who has he fought worth Mentioning Lately and he avoids Manny ? @Denver1928 We'll Don't you think that this fight , He deserved that million after the blow for blow's these guys unleashed on eachother? Not too mention , this happens to be the most famous fight to this day and were still talking about in Pro Boxing History? I think i just answered your question Denver...
@LimaUnite Nobody knew how that fight would turn out. Point is boxers have been holding out for larger pay days for centuries. Back in the 1930s Jack Dempsey said greed for money would kill the sport of boxing in a few years, as Rocky Marcianno repeated in his time. It's nothing new.
Sad to know, that Smokin Joe Frazier now is fighting an even greater fight he will probably lose (cancer). He will be remembered as one of the greatest fighters of all times.
Truly this was a rumble -- but a punchfest conducted by two superb boxers, and the better boxer won. For this reason it ranks as the best boxing match of its time.
To everyone who says Joe is a "bitter old man" ..please shut up and meet the man before he passes. Joe is in no way a bitter man besides to ali. I live outside of philadelphia and have been to Joes gym before it was turned into a fucking thrift shop. Joe was always in healthy spirits. One of the nicest men i have ever met, just do not bring up Ali.
@iDoominic Joe better than Ali?? Based on what? Ali beat Joe 2 out of 3 times, stopping him once. He knocked out 2 guys that gave Joe alot of trouble. Oscar Bonevena knocked Joe down a couple times, w/ Joe never being able to return the favor; although, Joe did get the decision the two times that they fought. George Foreman knocked Joe down several times over the course of two fights and stopped him both times. I understand that this is your opinion, but what is it based on?
@psychowulf I saw the Tito Trinidad vs Fernando Vargas fight..that was one brutal fight too, from start to finish. Both fighters hit the deck at least once but Tito took control of the later rounds while Vargas couldn't keep up the momentum. Still it was a very very close fight. A real classic.
Ali did hit hard, not as hard as Liston or George, or Frazier but look at what he did to them . Above all he took punches better than any HW ever . Shavers , Foreman, Frazier , to name a few couldn't KO him the man had as much heart as skills very rare in any sport. Jerry Rice had it Walter Peyton , Jim Brown, are men who had it also. But Ali is the greatest
Click 2:04 and a woman is fanning some air on to her face. I don't know how they fought for 14 rounds in moist heat, like those summer days that make you all sticky. It was punishment for both of them.
I think the only person in the entire world other than the two fighters who deserves to brag about this fight, is that friggin' ref. Just look at that guy. Probably the best moment of his entire life.
Foreman aged 46 KO'ed younger black fighter in 1994 to become youngest heavyweight champ. This gen of heavyweights suck... Tyson stands out though. Lennox too maybe
There is some conjecture on the point that Ali wanted to quit. Of course Ali would never admit to wanting to quit and a lot of this talk came out way after the fight was over -- like years. But the sources seem credible and Ali, in a much earlier round told his corner "This is what death feels like." It's entirely probable Ali did indeed tell his corner to cut his gloves off, but on the other hand would he really have quit? Ali could take a shot and new the end was near.
is it true that if Frazier's corner had waited 10 seconds more that Ali's corner would've threw in the towel and Frazier would have won?? cuz i heard that Ali's corner was seriously considering throwing in the towel at that same moment
@pejb83 yes it is true, it has been said that alis corner was about to stop it due to the punishment he was taking, that is why after this fight fraizer fired his coaches becuase he didnt want the fight to be stopped.
@DevilsFan973 - It's not the Klits fault but the heavyweight scene is the weakest it has been in living memory. The only fighter of note either of them have fought was a fat and bored Lennox Lewis - and big bruv lost. It is a shame for the Klits because they may have shone anyway in a different era. Sadly being the best in an era of bums will hurt the Klits legacy.
@DevilsFan973 im sorry are you nuts, the klitschkos are good there is no question about it, but look at who the klitschkos fight, david haye ect, ali and frazier had to fight the likes of foreman, liston, lyle, norton that wsa the best era for boxing
@rodeo179 These men were not just fighters, they were something greater, something the modern sport doesn't have: they were BOXERS. RIP Frazier, the world lost a giant.
In my opinion Joe is better than Ali
iDoominic 4 months ago 3
@iDoominic Joe better than Ali?? Based on what? Ali beat Joe 2 out of 3 times, stopping him once. He knocked out 2 guys that gave Joe alot of trouble. Oscar Bonevena knocked Joe down a couple times, w/ Joe never being able to return the favor; although, Joe did get the decision the two times that they fought. George Foreman knocked Joe down several times over the course of two fights and stopped him both times. I understand that this is your opinion, but what is it based on?

It looked so sad watching ali fight like he was getting old just didnt seem right even tho he still won

Joe you're the most stronger man in this boxing arena.
Ali you're the most mouther man in this boxing story.
But..
Most for Ali and frazier too, I hope be4 you die you must forgive each other face2face.

@pejb
Ali could take a shot and new the end was near.
dropway9 6 months ago
@dropway9 Ali has actually been quoted saying "Joe quit right before I did".

is it true that if Frazier's corner had waited 10 seconds more that Ali's corner would've threw in the towel and Frazier would have won?? cuz i heard that Ali's corner was seriously considering throwing in the towel at that same moment
pejb83 6 months ago
@pejb83 yes it is true, it has been said that alis corner was about to stop it due to the punishment he was taking, that is why after this fight fraizer fired his coaches becuase he didnt want the fight to be stopped.

That punch by Frazier at :34 was the nastiest thing I've ever seen. Raw power

Klitschkos would beat both single handily, these guys don't face the monsters the Klitschkos face today.

Daz555Daz 6 months ago
@DevilsFan973 im sorry are you nuts, the klitschkos are good there is no question about it, but look at who the klitschkos fight, david haye ect, ali and frazier had to fight the likes of foreman, liston, lyle, norton that wsa the best era for boxing

@rodeo179 These men were not just fighters, they were something greater, something the modern sport doesn't have: they were BOXERS. RIP Frazier, the world lost a giant.
