So essentailly you crack it, dissasemble it, reverse engeneer it, and re-pack it in to something with new and obsure name and now it is YOURS ??

    An act of PIRACY!

  • Playing God:

    1.- somebody has to

    2.- who's playing?

  • truely a breathtaking view of something i knew very little about. I truely hope to live just old enough to see the day that we can heal and care for our loved ones without expensive pills and heavy machines, and get back to the biological life the mind truly needs.

  • great documentary

  • Great watch

  • Whatever they "create".. will imbalance nature .. causing chaos to the entire universe. If the general public have more knowledge of what these crazy scientists are coming up with.. I'm certain there will be an uproar.

  • @hannahskm Entire universe? This tiny planet is a grain of sand in the universe. It's in our nature as humans to wanna progress. We'd still be living in caves if we weren't allowed to.

  • Or a lifeform that can make electricity from the energy from eating dust :D

  • We need a lifeform that eats dust :D Like a vacuum lama :P

  • Atheists: I don't need to convince you :)

Theists (Christians mostly in the US): Here is a video I would like to share with you.

It's a video from bigthink by Stephen Fry: The Importance of Unbelief (search on youtube). Take it with a grain of salt if you will. Doesn't harm since you already have all the truth ;)

  • They are going to upset the balance of nature, humans are still too irresponsible this is not good.

  • @Icureditwithmybrain *Upset the balance of nature* were you one of the Doom and Gloomers when they were about to switch on the Hadron Collider?

  • Comment removed

  • @Icureditwithmybrain *You're blocking me for being an idiot* ....the only idiot I see is a neophyte dribbler, nascent fool and a lamentable arsehole ... being you, as if I would be concerned missing the posts of a pestiferous prick.

  • thumbs up if you recognized the jon hopkins song

  • VERYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  • Biology sucks balls! I want intelligent robots.

  • WTF !? there's a spider antenna on that goats head at 06:43

  • "Playing God" - scientists answer: "We're not 'playing'..."

  • Should i tag @bbc on twitter?>Would the make us remove it.... copyright etc..?

  • I think if god exists, then he better move over. We are just beginning to biologically change things, but before long we will have the technology to create whole new species, and change things at our will. We will be gods, not some imaginary being invented by a primative agricultural society, but real physical beings working as a network to change the world around them. That is the nature off humanity. Where other animals had to adapt to their environment, we changed the environment to suit us!

  • @MendicantBiasMB05032 What happens when one of your other 'gods' decides to torture or kill you? What if you disagree with another member of the 'network'? What if the 'network' changes the world for the worse? You sound like a member of the borg.

  • THANK U BBC

  • Hmmm I think it is very bad that they try to make synthetic energy fuels like diesel, when it is known these fuels are destroying nature and decrease the living enviroment for life. I'd rather see these big companies invest in making green energy more durable and cheaper.

  • I don't like this. I don't like this one bit... Whether you believe in God or not, have we not learnt from the past? Certain things should not be messed with.

  • Oh yeah, why dont we pull out a nazi from his grave and make it into a real life NAZI Zombie.

So the FPSrussia guy can use 'm for target practise, instead of nazi dummy's!!

  • Seriously, this vid changed my life. As i have to believe this al really works, the smiling Ron Weiss @ 18:00, his face tells it works.

I'm goin for some research...If it really works i will switch my study. I want to play god to !!!

Only problem i see here... like mentioned @ the end of the vid is wrong use of the bio-bricks.

if it stays "open source", then we can say hello to real life Mutants (X-men) really soon!!

  • @UnconsciousDubstep "real life Mutants (X-men) really soon" - Yeah! Thats just what the fuckin' world needs! /s

  • Brave new world that will scare the Ba-Jebus out of the ignorants.

  • A realist

  • i dont believe in god and i hate Atheists cuz they always feel they need to break a religion down... what im i?

  • @expansie If you don't bealive in god you are an Atheist . It dsn't matter if you hate other atheists .. If you hate other humans dsn't make you something else . Also you are using a generalization.

  • @resistanceunion I dont believe in God, im not saying he there isn't a God. So im not an Atheist. Yes well, generalization of Atheists it will be then.... i dont hate other humans, just the Atheists and the guy who stole my bike last week.

  • @expansie "I dont believe in God, im not saying he there isn't a God. " Atheism from definition is "a lack of belief in god" ..

  • @resistanceunion Please look up the definition of an Atheïst... A lack of believe in God? They deny the existance of any God... Thats Atheisme...

  • @expansie It is from a dictionary The Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy (2008 ed.) . I don't really care how you call your position .. You can call your position .. The "LALALA" if you wish. I lack the belief in god and im an atheist .

  • @expansie atheism

    Pronunciation: /ˈeɪθɪɪz(ə)m/

    noun

    [mass noun]

disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.

    (Oxford Dictionary)

  • @expansie 'I ought to call myself an agnostic; but, for all practical purposes, I am an atheist. I do not think the existence of the Christian God any more probable than the existence of the Gods of Olympus or Valhalla. To take another illustration: nobody can prove that there is not between the Earth and Mars a china teapot revolving in an elliptical orbit, but nobody thinks this sufficiently likely to be taken into account in practice. I think the Christian God just as unlikely.' (Russell)

  • @FryderykFChopin Try reading philosophers other than Russell such as Wittgenstein, Plantinga, Flew, etc.

  • Doctors are in fact the LEADING cause of death in this country. Now what we need are more jackasses getting into things that are better left alone. Fuck the fxxkheaded apeshit science at any cost. Fxxk them in the ass. Sorry, We lose because these evilshit heads think Darwin was right and their benzodiazepine logic has captured education. What a fxxking bunch of pieces of shit. Even Darwin would tell them that to their faces.

  • ".... scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could that they didn't stop to think if they should." Dr Ian Malcom.

  • Best video i watched in years !

  • i'm not certain what to thnk about all this. if it is used in the medical field then i can understand;but unscrupulous people would do all sorts of other things,

  • and what about spider pigs? :)

  • @micol018 epic comment is epic...

  • @micol018 hahahh actually i was thinking exactly that in the beginning of the docu xD

  • @micol018 allah would not like that

  • BBC documentaries always has the best music...

  • Max Richter - i was just thinking ;is theviolin music near the end for those who were interested :)

  • @smallmouthdue exactly.

  • Why do people argue over religion vs science here? Isn't it the technology and its consequences, wether good or bad, that should be the subject of the discussion?

  • Science and progress FTW!

  • Also if we can backup our brains on hard drives (only 600mb required to save all the data in a human brain) we can die and be brought back to life when ever the fuck we want. We can live in a cyber world if we wanted. 1/2 of the population could live there. And that should solve A LOT of problems. (food, energy, pollution, housing, etc)

If you want to die(no copy) then it's your choice. Also in case of emergency (meteorite) we could upload ourselves on a station on mars or the moon.

  • @DurexDurpaneu2 that will means just body will die,,,u will stay alive,,,

  • @DurexDurpaneu2 Iain Banks talks about that in the culture series, great books.

  • @DurexDurpaneu2 Coolest YT comment ever. I feel excited at the notion but deeply saddened at the fact that I probably won't live long enough to see this.

  • @DurexDurpaneu2 If you back up your brain to a hard drive, or even make a clone of yourself, you still die. You don't come back to life. There's no way of transferring identity. Even if an exact copy of yourself is made, it's no different from having a twin.

The fact that new breeds of animals can be created is far older than Darwin. Dogs, horses etc. have been bred for centuries. Lions have bred with tigers. Shakespeare's sonnets urge a youth to pass on his beauty by having a child.

  • I need to mention that this documentary totally missed a very important piece of information :

Through the same method that they use to remote control mice scientists are now working rly hard at deciphering the brain waves into a binary code. It's the exact same process but backwards. Meaning ... Downloadable conscience ... Meaning immortality.:)))))))))))))))))

  • Spider-goat, Spider-goat, does whatever a Spider-goat does...

  • Despite the fact humans have been manipulating nature for thousands of years, genetically modified foods have been in your fridge for decades. Using another creatures genetic properties to enhance farm stock is nothing new. I remember hearing about it when I was a kid.

  • WHAT?!?! At about 28:00, they're talking about a new way to manufacture more diesel fuel. That's A HORRIBLE IDEA. That would just pump more CO2 into the atmosphere. This effort needs to be stopped immediately.

  • @GreatBigBore I agree. That's exactly what I thought when I saw that part... Its sad to see that the first thing a large corporation does with this technology is find a way to produce more fuel. Surely they could have come up with something not driven by financial gain. I wonder what might happen if that sort of funding were given to the computer programmer who wants to program proteins to kill cancer.

  • don't mess with nature... it's gonna bite us in the ass.

  • OMG

  • Deepak Chopra eat your heart out !!

the last bit about the brain and controlling

thats a big eff you to Deepak Chopra and his whoo whoo pseudo science !...

  • Amazing

  • In my opinion, Humans believing we should not change nature is JUST as arrogant as believing we can. We ARE nature, we are not some higher being asserting our influence from above. ANYTHING we do is simply evolution of our world, is it not? I think that saying that we should not pursue such things, and push ourselves and the world around us to it's limit, is just as ethically questionable as saying that we should. Fkking LOVE Horizon!

  • @secretspurs I can understand your logic. We r nature but most importent, we r PART of it.you kind of contradict yourself saying "we r not some higher being asserting..from above" b-cause thats exactally what is being done here isnt it? do you mean to tell me that you think human beings r in the center of nature? in the center of the world? that we r superior by nature? that is kind of a religious view. and even if it is, ALL religions forbid "playing god". excest 4 the scientific 1

  • The foundation of the problem with how we live is the fact that many of us believe that humans can improve on nature. What a fallacy.

  • 38 min in > this is the corperations making sure the every day person canot use the free tech, so we still become dependant on their system

  • this all sound to me like a new monopolised joke to replace the current one

  • Humans need to stop fucking with nature, its just pure fucking wrong.

  • @emancoy

humans have been genetically altering nature since the Agricultural Revolution that commenced over 10 thousand years ago now when we first started domesticating plants and animals.

  • @perfectbark yes, your right.

For the person I replied to and to most people out there, selective breeding is OK since we were doing it for 10,000 years, but direct genetic splicing is termed "Fucking with nature".

  • @emancoy ..and being that natures prime goal is to always better its self.. and we're part of nature.....your point is mute..

  • @gunmanscotland Why, have you got a problem with things like GM crops saving thousands of starving children's lives?

  • @tommyrharper57 Did i say anything about GM food to feed children? no i didnt, im just saying its wrong some of the things these scientists do, fair enough we need more food for children of the world, but we dont need to clone sheep or make spider goats do we.

  • @gunmanscotland Why not if it helps people's medical care? Again is there a problem with creating cancer attacking cells? I'm sure you would hate that if a member of your family was diagnosed with cancer. There is nothing inherently wrong with doing any of this stuff. A cloned sheep for example is no different to a normal sheep, in fact the point is it is exactly the same. If it does not cause any suffering, it is not causing any problems.

  • @gunmanscotland Fuck off you barbaric religious cunt.

  • @RyanB0011 Hahaha....im a barbaric religious cunt because i said that its wrong to mess with nature? you stupid motherfucker go fuck yourself you fucking prick, its got fuck all to do with religion so fuck off and die you cocksucking fuckwit.

  • @gunmanscotland So if it's not religion that tells you it's "wrong" to fiddle with nature...then what does?

  • @RyanB0011 I dont know, common sense? respect for living things maybe? its certainly not religion, im one of the most anti-religion people i know so its deffo not that anyways.

  • This kind stuff blows my mind in good and bad ways. I agree with all the comments that say science is amazing etc, but if you don't get some seriously neggy vibes from spider-goats then you probably have no soul. Shit like this just screams *don't fuck with this, it'll end really badly*.

I'm forever brought back to that fantastic line in Jurassic Park: "your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should".

  • Technology will outgrow humans, period. If you look at human evolution and at the timeframe it took to grow from its original primitive state to its current a little less primitive but still primitive state and compare that to the rate of growth of technology you should see a HUGE imbalance. It's impossible that we can handle all the implications. UNLESS, we finally change ourselves to an "improved" human being. By that I mean improved from within. Thats the effort everyone of us has to expend.

  • Fantastic stuff

  • Now all i need to do is get a hold of Chuck Norris's DNA to combine into my pot plant!

  • @RoguePenguinScotland an extremely potent blend that ensures calmness at the crunch

  • I hope all trans-humanists get a free transport to another planet, so they can create their technological nightmare there, in stead of ruining our beautiful planet.

  • Interesting but old news. try to search for how to make killer virusses with some dna printer :)

  • These trans-humanist's have major issues with death ! Death will always give Birth !

  • Future Whore at 35:49

  • why arent we reprogramming slow growing trees to grow faster yet?

  • The human brain is not a computer.

  • @ThijsVisser122 You are sadly mistaken.

  • This is an amazing video. Science is amazing, and any belief system that works against the truth of science is morally corrupt. Religion is the danger of the world.... the dark force that works against truth. Read books of science- you have nothing to lose or fear. God is not real. Science is.

  • @ghostdancerdotorg You should learn to think for yourself. You will find it truly liberating. Quit trying to shove your religion down my throat, Thumper.

  • @blacklotus66x

ps- come to my channel for lots of science- and some thought provoking non-scientific material and great music

  • @ghostdancerdotorg Nope. I pass. Your channel is ridiculous. But thanks for the offer.

  • @blacklotus66x don't be so naive, Science is only as good and amazing depending on who is doing the science and for what causes. Would you say the Science of Eugenics is amazing? Would you agree that falsing scientific data in order to promote green/carbon tax in the Climategate case is something good? People like you are easy prey, so naive and guillable to whatever they show you. You completely ignore how governments today now use Science to control, spy and to manipulate the general masses.

  • @mrocean21 You are the naive one. And you don't know what I do and do not "ignore". Rather arrogant, I would say. You must be Christian... To believe in a "god" is the ultimate in naivety .

  • @blacklotus66x oh one more thing, does your knowledge of history expland beyond the 59 mins of this program? If it does then you would know that the greatest science carried out in history, including amazing discoveries in biology and physics have been carried out by men and women with religious beliefs. Again you are being naive and childish, you become prey to information if you don't do you own bit research.

  • Sorry, but the greatest scientific achievements have been carried out by Atheists. And so what if there was (is) science carried out by people of religious faith. It does not prove that your "god" exists.

I know my history well, mR. aRROGANCE. You are the one who is prey to information... falsified information. You are a believer in the biggest lie perpetuated on mankind. Religion is the true crime. And to call me "childish" when you believe in fairy tales is absurd.

  • @blacklotus66x "There are two types that make up humanity: Intelligent men without religion and religious men without intellect" Al-Ma'arri 973-1057 Syrian Philosopher

  • @ritchloui Indeed.

  • @blacklotus66x Sadly the world is on the brink of a new dark age. We ignore at our peril the takeover that is underway by Islam. They have gained control of Egypt, soon Libya and most of the Middle East and North Africa are now Islamic States with Sharia Law. Sharia makes it illegal to speak out in any way against Islam. The US Government is in the pocket of the Muslim Brotherhood and STILL refuses to name the enemy. The situation is incredibly serious. UNDERSTAND YOUR ENEMY!

  • @ritchloui Oops... I thought you were stating the ignorance of "religious men without intellect". I understand your concerns about Islam extremists, but you seem a bit deluded by some of the anti-Muslim propaganda out there. I concern myself with the dangers of ALL religious "brotherhoods" and extremists, not just one. I understand the enemy, and it is anything other than fact and truth. Religion holds no light bright enough to blind truth. Religion is darkness disguised as light.

  • @blacklotus66x I hope you are right. I too think that, as you beautifully put it 'religion holds no light bright enough to blind truth'. I am not anti-Muslim - after all that label is more often than not something they were born with and actually says nothing about what they think. However a recent opinion poll in Britain makes sobering reading, especially the percentage who think it is right to kill apostates. This is why anyone who speaks out is almost GUARANTEED to face death threats.

  • @ritchloui we are at the end of the dark age and consciousness is at it's darkest before the each golden age, understand your self and your have no enemies !

  • @blacklotus66x

"Religion is the true crime." is the absolute truth; but, who's religion?

Mainstream science is a religion too. Atheism is a religion. So is most.

Hard to get across, but Christianity is not really a religion- read the Bible. Christ railed against religion. He showed us how to be independent under God's Law, and to be free of all oppression/repression. He explained God as a Spirit which lives in us and through us, whose power can perform anything we have the faith to.

  • @ghostdancerdotorg Do you know the difference between ignorance and stupidity? And which one are you? I have read the bible- which is why I don't believe it. Christianity is not only a religion- it is a cult. Atheism follows no deity or has no religious connotations. It is based on factual evidence. I have no problem with you believing in whatever you choose, but until you can present factual evidence supporting your claims of a "god", keep your preaching in your church.

  • @ghostdancerdotorg

    - "Atheism is a religion... but Christianity is not really a religion- read the Bible"

Health is a disease, but cancer is not really disease - fuck yourself.

  • @TheAtheistExperience LOL! Great response.

  • @mrocean21 LOL, I cant imagine why then 93% of the royal society are atthehists...

  • All Law comes from God.

Man's secular (worldly, God-less) government was usurped by evil, corrupt men who do not believe in God and these few manipulate man's world under a system of de facto (unlawful, illegitimate, usurped) bankrupt public governments who are at the mercy of private bankers

    youtube.com watch?v=XShBwYjPH08&feature =related

You may appreciate the relevance to this video.

Read the Bible- you have nothing to fear or lose. God wants you.

  • @ghostdancerdotorg i took a shit on your mom

  • Proceed with caution.

    2 Thessalonians 2:9-10

King James Version (KJV) 9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

  • @ghostdancerdotorg Fuck off.

  • @ghostdancerdotorg Idiot.

  • bill gates building computers?maybe jobs or someone else

  • awesome

  • is this ah series? this was kind of....amazing.

  • @jenenjisgarden BBC horizon. They have a * lot* of episodes, and many are kind of amazing :)

  • @jenenjisgarden

BBC Horizon is one of the best things that happened to Television. If people would be glued to this, instead of trash realities and soaps and shit the world would be an awesome place.

  • @d3st88 I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @d3st88 Yes because watching this instead of EastEnders is really going to relieve famines and save starving children in Africa. Our London gangs will break up be a force of kindness upon the world. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict will end. But seriously, no of course if everyone was forced to watch this it wouldn't change shit. Good program though.

  • @tommyrharper57

I understand where you are coming from and you are sort of right and not. People won't be inspired by things they don't know about. People won't solve problems they don't know about. People are less likely to help others who they don't empathize with.. So, yes, merely watching this or other "intellectual" programmes won't magically solve problems, but it's a step towards just that. Anyways, good programme.

  • @Csillaghamu Yes I totally agree it is a very productive program to watch, it was just the tone of the guy in the top comments that frustrated me, that somehow watching this would change the whole world, there was no need to exaggerate and I was really just mocking him, not downing the productivity of the program.
