I don't even know if this is a real memory but I think first heard this song when my mom picked me up from school when I was 6 or 7. She had bought "Essential Barbra Streisand" and was playing it. I really recall that moment as the moment I fell in love with music.

First of all let's just deal with the song itself....absolutely beautiful; touching and sentimental with a subtle production and arrangement. This is the kind of song that you can hear and when you're done you want to belt it out yourself and it would probably come out horrible because who can exude the control and passion at the same time as Streisand. My other love, SADE, is also an incredible talent and lady, but in a different genre; therefore they really can't, or shouldn't be compared. Barbra was a "speech class" project of mine when I was a senior in high school; and that began my life-long devotion to her. I still, after all these years, have not been able to watch "The Way We Were," a second time, because of the way it ends.

This is one of my favorite songs by Barbra. I have loved it ever since I first heard it in 1981. This song was recorded in England along with Memory from Cats. I saw Barbra in concert in 2006 in Atlantic City. It was the most exciting concert I have ever gone to. The entire audience jumped to their feet when Barbra first appeared. It was fantastic. One of the best singers ever!
