This song remained in the final game, just slightly altered but it still sounded like the theme from The Rock. I'm watching the movie now and was reminded of FF8 :)
@Ashin809 Half of me thinks it got taken out because it's an exact rip-off of the theme of the movie "The Rock". Listen to it at 4:25. EXACTLY the same as this video at 1:12.lol
was this part of the actual game? i remember playing the trial version like 5 years ago and im thinkin about lookin to buy this game, but im ot gonna if this isnt in it
FFVIII it an incredible game. Unfortunately, it's considered the "odd" one out of the series, by a lot of people. Well, they're truly missing out. I still have it, and it'd be the last one out of the my entire FF collection that I'd give away.
@rickyvs222 Oh yea, the music during the landing on Dollet in the full version is different. It's still good, but the demo version (which is how I was introduced to the game, as well... almost 13 years ago ahaha!) had the better music for the landing scene. I guess there was a lawsuit somewhere along the lines... Too bad, because it was great!
in the game squall is not wearing that coat. he is wearing blue uniform. plus music during this part is not as good during actual game. they changed it to make the demo more exciting.
I'm such a freak about this game that i noticed Squall wasn't wearing his SeeD uniform.. so i looked it up.. Yes, he's wearing his SeeD uniform at this scene in the original game
WOW i remember playing this demo as a kid . . . . i was what like 4 ? lol i didn't know a thing about rpgs . . . yet its still my favourite video game ever to this day
This music was better than what was put in the final version. I have this demo on one of the old demo disc put out by the original Offical Playstation Magazine.
Wow, I remember this like it was yesterday. This is the same demo that got me hooked on FF games. I remember casting Leviathan. I even remember this music. FFVIII is still my favorite of the series.
lol when i was little playing this game i loved the intro song :D and i still do lol its catchy, i loved how pizza hut had demo games thats how i got my ps1 games ^_^; i wish pizza hut would do that now
My dad had gotten pizza hut that day and gave him a green disk of pizza hut....me and my sisters fire up the ps1 and clicked on the "final fantasy 8" ......that day , my whole life changed on the gaming world :P
Cool video and the original track is fine.. But it's nothing compared to the new track "The Landing" which is one of the best pieces of music ever composed for FF series, in my humble opinion.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This intro makes the game look so much cooler than it really was, what the fuck.
This one, and a couple other Final Fantasy games have this plot take place in front of like a war torn nation, or a nation on the precipice of combat or something, and they have the chance to break into a story that can have deep emotions and an intricate plot and introduce new characters and archetypes, but no, that all slips out the backdoor and its just the same 6 dudes saving the world AGAIN.
Oh man NOSTALGIA this was on a pizza hut demo disk. That's really how I started to get to know RPG's. I really wish they had kept it like this. Because this is embedded in my childhood memories.
Oh my God... you had the pizza hut demo too?! How crazy was that?! I had that thing when i was about 5 or 6. That disc is definitely embedded into my childhood memories.. wow small world... I had both the green and blue one.
@underthearms i had the pizza hut demo to!!! ive never played this games full version only that demo and i loved the demo and this intro :) is the full game better then the demo? and i agree, that pizza hut disk will always be remembered :)
That may be true. IT was still a definite solid game. So it was romance. So was FFIV and no one complained about Rosa and Cecil. Each game in the series has their own theme, but I like the romance theme the best.
The Junction System was terribly broken. It was so easy to get high stats early in the game, making bosses an absolute joke. Overall, FFVIII was, in my opinion, the best, tying with FFIX
lol, yea I wouldnt recommed a first time player to junction the black holes to squalls attack, it's something you don't even think of doing the first time anyway unless you are playing with a walk-through (uncool) I did it the second time around and it was a blast though!
@Tikku4ever Its because theres a lot of people who hate the draw system of the game. others hate the main characters, Other people just hate it because its not FF7. And then Spoony caused a lot more hate onto this game.
@Ronso158 The only thing that was bad about this game was the draw system. The characters were cool, the story was cool, everything else was cool, but drawing magic...that kinda ticked me off. Made it so even the weak opponents were annoying to fight lol.
@FOZproductionz While funny, he was very wrong about this game. IMO, FFVIII was the best of the PS1 RPGs. VII is great too, and IX is incredible, but Squall and Rinoa's story was just so wonderful
I couldn't have said it better, man. The final version just didn't have the same feel. If FFVIII had opened like this, it would be one of my most treasured games. Final Fantasy has always had this certain feel to it, everyone of them unique. The way it turned out wasn't my thing. A good game, but lacking something I can't place.
i wish this theme made it into the full game it was epic. really didnt get a good feel when i was playing the full game with "The Landing", i would go back and play the demo disc i got with brave fencer musashi but hte disc is scratched D=
I really did not like the "landing" theme. I mean when I played this part on the full version game, I was disappointed to hear how different it is then I also noticed how the demo graphics are better imo than the full version lol
Lastly, I believe this demo was 5 times harder than the actual game
any idea where I could get this entire song? It has to be like the only song I actually like in the entire FFVIII soundtrack, 'The Landing' is dull and slow by comparison.
haha yes! i had this demo disc. i remember playing and being like "where the fuck is materia?!?" had no clue it was a different system than FFVII at first. I remember Rinoa had Leviathan, but no other GF's were available.
listen to active portions of the music in this and then listen to the active portions of "Hummel Get's the Rockets" from the movie "The Rock". Does it sound identical to anyone besides me???
i thought this was the actual game a while back because it was the first time i had ever played final fantasy 8 and i was searching the intro and i kept coming up with the real intro and i was really confused
looking back at the classic final fantasys .. at least the ones i started playing on as a kid .. it makes me hope that the soon released number 13 will be all that and more
damn i finally found it...the music tht has been in the back of my head for years. I always thought bout this music when i ride on the top of a boat. But i nvr kne wut ff it was, who can blame me i was like 7 or 6 idk, thx man
I like the music here in the FFVIII demo, but have noticed a similarity between it and the main theme from the movie "The Rock" ("Rock House Jail"). This might explain why it wasn't used in the final version of the game...
Can anyone rip this song from the disc? My previous post shows you how to find the song in-game- or, if you can unzip the ZIPs on the disc. That'd be grand. Thanks!
this is on my final fantasy 8 disk wierd so i was playing a well how can i say this when i played it the assault i sew rinoa too and squell wasint wearing a military suit he was wearing his normal stuff. wierd
I'm glad I'm one of the few who got to experience the demo. Eventually the disk broke but this song remained scarred in my memory for years. For a second, I was fooled that the replacement song was what I originally heard. But now this take me back. WOW.
This song was far too epic compared to "The Landing". Fast paced, actiony, perfect.
I found "The Landing" awfully slow paced and rather boring. At least compared to this (the first version I played). Thanks.
The music in this scene in the actual game is much more epic. Glad they changed it, like some others have said.
Pretty sure Rinoa is in the party because they felt they had to tie her in and make her noticeable somehow prior to FF8's commercial release, considering she is on the logo for the game.
To get to this song you need to cheat... at least on the PS version! Enter the Gameshark code for the FF8 debug room, and find the room with 10 Rinoas, Quistises and Selphies. Talk to the top-left Rinoa and find "Music Check" or something, look for "Open (Out)". And there you have it! If anyone knows how to extract the ZIP files on the PS discs, please tell me =)
And if you talk to the Rinoa below her, she gives an option called "Fei Wong", which if played on Disc 3, plays Eyes on Me, the vocal version. If on Disc 4, it plays that little vocal part with the weird noises that plays at the start of The Extreme (Final Ultimecia fight). Nothing happens on the other two discs...
Yeah...i remember when i played the demo... it was the first FF ive ever played! And i Remembered this song! When i finally saw it (about 2 years l8ter) I got to this part and was like "this doesnt sound right." I totally had this song in my head! I even played it by ear on accedent on the piano! Thats how awesome this song is!
This song remained in the final game, just slightly altered but it still sounded like the theme from The Rock. I'm watching the movie now and was reminded of FF8 :)

Pretty sure Rinoa is in the party because they felt they had to tie her in and make her noticeable somehow prior to FF8's commercial release, considering she is on the logo for the game.

The Landing was a much better choice/song. Personally, I'm very glad they changed it.

It's good but I prefer the one they went with. The Landing is much more memorable IMO.

I like both, but the Landing seems to suit the situation more...

As far as I know, the only name this song has is "Open(Out)" and, fortunately, it's still on the game discs.

I am really glad they changed the music. It's not bad music... but the version they used in the final product just fits so much better.

My video froze just as he was about to crash through the little wall... it was strange...
Also, the music at the beginning sounds like a Midi file...
