Stevie boy! I got my first sound recorded with the chibson and SH4 pikups if you'd like to check it out on my channel, got a new amp Jet city JCA20H as well, sounds fantastic.
I have been looking had at an ESP LTD EC1000 MGO (gold top). There was a lot of buzz about the EC1000T CTM with is very much like a Les Paul custom except for the weight. It seems that ESP is not offering the MGO in 2012 since they have been removed from the web site. This is the only EC1000 with the Elnico 2 pick ups offered in 2011 and several dealer still have them in stock. I will keep you posed on what i buy. Keep the videos coming.
Hey Buddy, Love the tones your getting in Overloud. I may buy it myself one day. By the way, if you haven't checked out the new Van Halen album, You should. Eddie still HAS IT GOING ON!!! Sounds like the Brown Sound on Steroids !!!
Hey dude I got my new Ibanez, decided to go with an RGA72QM it's so beautiful, check out my vids. Can't wait to post a half decent jam video lol... Time to start practicing like crazy, I'm rusty as hell =/
@TheXXXDB You're a braver man than I, Xavier!! LOL!! I'm for the Pats winning, but putting cash on the game would be too much pressure. I hope we win it for you! Go Pats!!
@PixxyLixxx we got HOSED on Sunday pal....and i am out 200 beans...:((((((....oh well....when you get a chance i wanted too know what if any experiece you have with the Line 6 M13 pedal......and have you seen the the new Zoom G5 and i hear talk about a G8????come the summer.....not sure what i should get??
@TheXXXDB Well, it was a fight to the end. We just needed a couple more catches and we would have pulled it off. Oh well, looking forward to next year! I haven't had any experience with the pedals you mentioned. I'm looking into the Behringer controller. It's cheap enough and has two controller pedals with a bunch of buttons. TH2 is really easy to program midi, so setup is easy enough. It would be nice to have volume and wah back again!
LEt me ask you something, it can sound stupid or inocent from my self but as you mamke so many guitars reviews do you think you can review a ibanez rg prestige with your gear and patches?
It's is possible, i'm saying that cause i got myself a ibanez rg 2550 prestige with those ibz dimarzio pickups plugged into a fosusrite 2i2 , but i just can't get these terrific tones you got man. just do'nt know why.
@mzsteadycam I would love to, but I don't have access to a Prestige model. The closest I have is my Ibanez s470 and RG560 (both made in Japan). As far as sound quality, make sure your input levels are hot enough. My older videos had weaker sound and I found out that my guitar signal was really weak. Once I pumped that up, the amps were a lot more responsive.
@sajo1111111 Unfortunately, no. I really screwed myself when I deleted the partitions and created new ones for the new install. There was no partition table or MBR for the recovery software to work with. It could try to seek out sectors with unknown data and attempt to recover, but when I installed the new OS I did a full format. That seems to have sealed the fate of the old patches. :(
Tell us some more about that beautiful Gibson your playing. I enjoy your clips and listening to you play and talk about what your playing. Keep those videos coming.
@piratesplunder1 Actually, that's a Gibson clone, not a real one. I ran me $280 delivered to my front door from China. It's not the best guitar I own, but for the money it's certainly a nice looking and decent sounding instrument. Thanks so much for the kind words!!
Great video man! love your playing, and yeah, TH2 is a great amp sim, love it! but I use Amplitube for practical reasons, because I can record with it.
Well, awesome playing as always, loved the lesson.
BTW, I uploaded videos of my guitar with the mods (the DiMarzio and the Seymour Duncan Pups) and sounds amazing.
@Akira161 Thanks man!! I just checked out your cover of Rock&Roll and I thought it sounded great. Nice beefy tone on it, so those Dimarzios are definitely sounding good!
@UnivegaSuperSport Yeah, I love that opening riff. Billy Squier wasn't the hottest guitar player at the time, but he does have some decent song riffs. Maybe I'll pull out some Aldo Nova in the next one....hehehe...
Could you share your created patches? It seems I don't get a decent sound here and inspecting your patch(es) would help me out in the mystery of patch tweaking.
@exyll I've thought about a video of exactly that. I'll make it a point to do a video showing patch creation from scratch. I'll check into how I can export my patches. I'm sure I could dump some up on Mediafire once I figure out how to export the banks.
Hi. What do you think is there any real difference between the Kluson tuners and the Grovers? I'm wondrering to buy a 50's tribute Gibson LP with Kluson tuners...
@hariel The Klusons seems a little stiffer and the Grovers are a little smoother, but they both stay in tune. It's probably more of a look than anything. I think I like the look of the Klusons better, but I go back and forth on that.
On the string breaking issue...do you find that the bridge on your LPs has to be set unusually high relative to the saddle? I find that the higher quality LP, the lower the bridge needs to be set in order to maintain proper action. I've got an Epi LP and the angle created between the bridge and the saddle is not ideal for string tension (thus string breakage), but it is all I can do to get the action/string buzz ratio to work out and be playable. Love your vids man....
@savvysymbiontmusic I'm starting to think that a roller bridge may be the solution. The sharp point of most Tune-o-matic style bridges seem to be the issue. I might try a roller bridge from Guitar Fetish (they're cheap enough) and see if it makes a difference in breakage. Thanks for the kind words!!
Hey Steve... you must be psyched, your Pats are in the Bowl brother hey listen, even though Im from NY it wouldnt break my heart if your Pats beat the living crap out of the NYG's Im a JEt fan..lol but good luck, I hope they win, you really do have an awesome team..its also awesome that TN gave you such a great compliment. if anyone deserves it, you do. only another guitarist knows how hard it is to master the greatest instrument known to man and how many hours of practice and comittment it took
@stratomaster516 Thanks so much, Pierce!! Yeah, I'm finally getting a break before the big game. It's hard not to be anxious about it. I would have rather seen the 49ers, but, as Bill would say, it is what it is. Go Pats!!
Just wanted to let ya know, I posted this vid on TedNugent(dot)com, and Ted himself checked it out... This was his response: "the man has a wonderful touch. Godbless him." I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your vids and as a supporting member @ TedNugent(dot)com on his "TalkBack" boards forum, I posted the vid and the guys over there appreciate what you do, including Ted himself... Kudos man! Keep on keepin'-on!
@Nimrod399 Dude, that made my day! Sorry for the delay, but I just finally got a break to sit in front of a computer without Word in my face for 8 hours. I'll have to break out some Ted riffs in my video. I remember listening to the Cat Scratch Fever LP on my parent's wall stereo. Love Stranglehold, too. That's a timeless riff!
@PixxyLixxx The guys on the NUGE boards are aways tradin' little viddies of CSF & Stranglehold both tradin' tips and tricks an' such. Then Ted himself pipes-in with a vid that Shemane records for him to add to the mix, or simply answers the questions and assumptions with his truth. If you got a mind to, and don't mind a pay-to-play forum site (annual subscription fee) we'd luv to have you aboard tradin' guitar talk etc. I think you've ended up with a couple more subscribers from there too...
@PixxyLixxx Picking and grinng here too. I sit on me P.C giving it large in my cans on Guitar Rig for hours too. How much fun is it to go from Jazz to Blues to Death Metal (maybe not on death metal..) with the click of a mouse, without making the Mrs want to kill me. (like when I get the amps and pedals going...) Rock on. Phil :)
@APortlyNinja I like my regular amp (a Peavey Vypyr), but every time I try to mike it up I can't get a decent sound. I tried a few different mikes and no luck. Compared to the software amps, the live amp sounded awful. So I stick with the software just because it sounds better.
@sajo1111111 I'll check it out. I deleted the partitions so Win7 would make the system partition as a part of the install. I wonder if recovery can happen even when the partitions are deleted and recreated. It's worth a try, though. I can't believe I lost all those patches (like a dozen banks).
@sajo1111111 HA! Thanks! I love a nice strong cup of coffee. The Sumatran blend comes around only in winter, so I have to stock up before it's gone in April or May. In the summer they replace it with lighter blends.
nice video as always Stevie boy!!! very educative and fun.
p.s. btw finally got my pups for my chinese gibby, a set of SD hot rodded humbuckers, bought them in GC in Austin, installed also a new nut and... wow, sounds incredible. You should check them out.
Great playing dude. I always get inspiration after watching you jam out like that. Haha, by the way, what's the name of that van halen tune you were jamming at the end?
@mikecaseyy I think Beautiful Girls and 5150 were the tunes I played, though I messed up the rhythm in both of them. I gotta start making these video before midnight....I'm too burned out by then!
@Burden206 I actually did have a backup, but the patches must be located in a database in the Program Files folder. I backed up the Docs root, which contains the AppData folder. Unfortunately, they didn't use the AppData folder for patch storage. From what I can see in the manual and the program, I have to use the Save or Export feature to back up patches. It would be nice if they came up with a better process for the next version.
I madea copy of the first sound bank, TH2 write it in the file. I think that if I make the second bank that file will be called c:\ProgramData\Overloud\TH2\bank002.xml
@pixxylixxx Sounds great as always. However I am trying to create similar patches by just starting as you say. head + cab + reverb still your output has much more body. Do you use compression somewhere? Also, your output sounds stereo or wide. How did you setup the post-processing either in TH2 or your DAW.
@exyll I don't use compression in the chain, it's just the head, cab and reverb. But my input is pretty high up and that has made a difference. In TH2, open the guitar audio meter and make sure you're hitting the green zone when hitting the strings with a good strum, but not hitting the red zone, even with a hard hit. I just checked the output and it's stereo, but I make the L/R channels totally discrete, so the separation is there. No post processing, it's all in TH2.
@exyll When I run the L/R signal back to the mixer, I pan the L channel hard left and the R channel hard right so there is no crossover. In other words, the L channel is only coming out of the L speaker and the R channel is only coming out of the R speaker.
When I listen to it, the one you played last is Def it - Jake E Lee - I think went with that stretch, it just sounded just like THAT .... the newer guys are probably getting lazy with the other way LOL
@robdrums69 I think so, too. That one would make the most sense, considering how much JEL liked to use large stretches. I'm with the new guys! LOL! The 5-fret stretch is not fun!
@PixxyLixxx -- yes, I know, I have tried the stretch myself and I have to say, some of them make you feel like your about to dislocate your hand muscles... LOL
@robdrums69 I might consider a Mac, but my audio hardware last made a Mac driver for OS9....a little dated. So that would mean new audio I/O hardware, too. My issue was I tweaked the driver in an audio package and it really f'd up my card. TH2 would still work, but not much more. I think the sample buffers kept getting reset to 64 and only TH2 would work with that setting. Working great now, though, super fast and no glitches.
@PixxyLixxx I run a Quad Core 775 Hackintosh! Running OSX Lion and it is ROCK SOLID, even with my "unsupported" M-Audio Delta 66 w/Omni I/O PCI audio card. Checkout tonymacx86, you seem like someone that could easily get a Hack working in no time. I have two actually! One is a desktop the other is a music only machine in a short depth rack mount case for my portable studio.
@jarrodhroberson Ha, that's awesome. I actually run a Dell Mini10v Hackintosh/Ubuntu/XP netbook. It only has one gig of RAM and an Atom processor, so it's not powerful enough for DAW work. I'll look into the guy you referenced. The Intel quads are getting cheaper and cheaper, especially the older cores (that work great with OSX).
@PixxyLixxx Thx. Man! ;D Yea, you're totally right! Hey I'm starting to develop a fail for the idea of building and painting my own guitars and cabinets..! Experiment like 'another luthier'! :p Could I ask you for advice some time this summer where I've planned kicking off the projects? :D Like, have you got major knowlagde about that sort of thing? :) - M
Hey steve, happy new year. I just finished Ace Frehleys bio NO Regrets. Good read and it renewed my interest in old kiss. Is there new kiss? LOL CONGRATS ON DERBY
@drinkspecials Thanks Shawn! I'd love to check that bio. I'm sure he's got a few choice words for Paul and Gene, LOL! I think we're up to Kiss 6.0, HA! Thanks about the Derby. It was great to see him so excited about his car, and that's what it's all about.
Welcome back... Congrats to your Son on the Pinewood derby..That friggin awesome!! I remember how important that event was to me when I was a kid in cub scouts. take the derby car and make a case for it, Im sure your son would dig keeping that car. I kept mine..LOL
anyway, Im also glad to see you got your PC back up and running well. well I see even though you lost your presets you made some new ones that sound pretty amazing. sometimes its cool to start fresh.. thanks for sharing!
@stratomaster516 Thanks Pierce! We were lucky enough to make it to the Final Four, which is an achievement in itself. He wanted to sleep with the trophy, but we convinced him it was too sharp. HA! We'll definitely keep it and looking forward to next year.
Yeah, bummer on the system and lost patches, but it's definitely running better than ever. A couple of annoying glitches in the old system seem to have disappeared. Keep rocking my friend!
@xuix4life I LOVE Larzgallows!! But I just went to his channel and looked for how he was playing Bark at the Moon and couldn't find a video. Are you sure it was him or perhaps he took it down?
@xuix4life That could be a point of endless debate, but those jazz guys would disagree. They would call Gilbert a "scale player" who plays mostly straight 16th notes. I think what makes EVH so remarkable is his rhythm syncopation. His turnarounds in "Unchained" alone are noteworthy.
@PixxyLixxx Haha, I'm not talking about his crazy solos, He keeps better rhythm than any guitarist I know :) Check out his early work with racer x, like "Gone Too Far" or his anything from the Technical Difficulties album, like "Miss Mistreater". Paul really doesn't get enough recognition:(
@xuix4life Absolutely. The Chinese ones are ok, but they aren't nearly as nice as a real Gibson LP, especially the hardware and electronics. The Chinese ones are cool to fool around with, but for a professional musician (especially one that can deduct equipment expenditures) a real Gibson is probably the better path.
Try the Elixir Polywebs, depending on your problem they'll last you MUCH longer. I'm talking YEARS. I actually love the sound of that Less Paul but looks like a Les Paul.
@TheGargoyleLives I tried them and they did last longer, but it's not just the oxidation that kill strings for me. I press fairly hard and over the course of a few weeks I'll actually get raised bumps in the string at each fret. That kills the intonation, so even if they don't break, they lose their ability to be tuned accurately. So I'm back to quantity over quality. It's just a pain in the ass to change them so frequently.
I truly Jones for your vids now! Always informative! VH with Dave a must listen to everyday! Great licks! You truly have a knowledge of the frets! I wanna song from you brother! A Sumatran Blend!
ROFL- I love this guy! This is the second vid I checked out from him, but I instantly subbed. Best part: 3:40- lol. Also I found it amazing that you make my day right from the first sec- where you laugh in the camera, and all of the sudden my worry mind goes bye-bye. Thank you man!
it's funny when you speak of good rhythm players I tend to think of Malcolm Young, who is overshadowed by Angus Young in ACDC. whats impressive there is two very connected players, it's almost like a comedy act where you have the straight guy and the comic crazy
@leokimvideo I think of the other brothers -- Alex and Ed -- just like Malcolm and Angus. They seemed to be joined at the hip, musically at least. I saw AC/DC in '81 and '85 and they were great both times.
@leokimvideo Oh yeah, I love funk guitar. I went through a James Brown and P-Funk phase for a little while. Those guys are required listening for anyone looking for some funk chops.
@leokimvideo Yeah, the "digital dust" had built up over time. It was time for a cleaning! I can build these systems in my sleep, so it was just one evening to wipe it out and start again. I just made a list of the only the software I needed and skipped installing all the demos I had loaded in the last build. Gotta keep it streamlined!
Hell of a tone man, I'm thinkin on pickin up a new guitar soon, being an extreme Ibanez fan I think I'm gonna pick go with maybe an ibanez RGA32 for now, eventually get something better. Can't wait to try out guitar rig 5 :)
@FMGProductions100 Thanks!! I love Ibanez guitars. You can't go wrong with a nice Ibby. Guitar Rig 5 is killer, but just to be clear, I'm using TH2 by Overloud for my amp in this vid.
@MCguit88 Thanks, Mike! My wife got the email from Amex that we could buy early tix so we went online and added a pair. The total before taxes and service fees for two tickets was $320. Yikes!! That's when we decided we'd just watch it on YouTube, HA!
my question is how do you get away without swapping pickups outta all those china gibsons you have lol... the pickups in my china paul were total crap, too much feedback for distorted channels and almost no volume for clean channels
@hbk123 I'm running a closed system, no live speakers other than my headphones. That's why I don't get feedback. When I try to use it with a live amp, it's a disaster. I'll change the pickups at some point, but for now it's working so I'll live with them until something breaks.
I dont give a fucking danm about being first that was an amazing display of skill you are my favorite guitar so easy to just chill and listen to you man Big fan
Stevie boy! I got my first sound recorded with the chibson and SH4 pikups if you'd like to check it out on my channel, got a new amp Jet city JCA20H as well, sounds fantastic.
Peace bro and cheers from Mexico.

Phil :)

@Burden206 I think you are right. I'll double check the backup and see if I can mine the patches. Thanks!!

@PixxyLixxx You're welcome
Burden206 1 month ago
why don't you use proper amps?
APortlyNinja 1 month ago
@APortlyNinja I like my regular amp (a Peavey Vypyr), but every time I try to mike it up I can't get a decent sound. I tried a few different mikes and no luck. Compared to the software amps, the live amp sounded awful. So I stick with the software just because it sounds better.
PixxyLixxx 1 month ago
@PixxyLixxx I have a Peavey Vypyr too and mine has USB out ... no need for a mic

also, if it is the same hard drive look up a program called recuva, you might be able to recover your patch files, even if you've reformated windows
sajo1111111 1 month ago
@sajo1111111 I'll check it out. I deleted the partitions so Win7 would make the system partition as a part of the install. I wonder if recovery can happen even when the partitions are deleted and recreated. It's worth a try, though. I can't believe I lost all those patches (like a dozen banks).

great taste in guitars and coffee? keep the vids coming!
sajo1111111 1 month ago

I gotta start making these video before midnight....I'm too burned out by then!

in case of windose failure, you can use DropBox and Cobian Backup. This software can be configured to copy important files to online storage.
Burden206 1 month ago

How did you setup the post-processing either in TH2 or your DAW.
exyll 1 month ago
@exyll I don't use compression in the chain, it's just the head, cab and reverb. But my input is pretty high up and that has made a difference. In TH2, open the guitar audio meter and make sure you're hitting the green zone when hitting the strings with a good strum, but not hitting the red zone, even with a hard hit. I just checked the output and it's stereo, but I make the L/R channels totally discrete, so the separation is there. No post processing, it's all in TH2.
PixxyLixxx 1 month ago
@PixxyLixxx I have my gain set on almost 3 on my single coil Squier and on 0 when my Ibanez is hooked up. What a difference pickups make!
I am not native english so what do you mean with "I make the L/R channels totally discrete"?
exyll 1 month ago
@exyll When I run the L/R signal back to the mixer, I pan the L channel hard left and the R channel hard right so there is no crossover. In other words, the L channel is only coming out of the L speaker and the R channel is only coming out of the R speaker.

When I listen to it, the one you played last is Def it - Jake E Lee - I think went with that stretch, it just sounded just like THAT .... the newer guys are probably getting lazy with the other way LOL
robdrums69 1 month ago
@robdrums69 I think so, too. That one would make the most sense, considering how much JEL liked to use large stretches. I'm with the new guys! LOL! The 5-fret stretch is not fun!

@PixxyLixxx -- yes, I know, I have tried the stretch myself and I have to say, some of them make you feel like your about to dislocate your hand muscles... LOL

Get a MAC ;) they are better for music :) lol
robdrums69 1 month ago

One is a desktop the other is a music only machine in a short depth rack mount case for my portable studio.
jarrodhroberson 1 month ago
@jarrodhroberson Ha, that's awesome. I actually run a Dell Mini10v Hackintosh/Ubuntu/XP netbook. It only has one gig of RAM and an Atom processor, so it's not powerful enough for DAW work. I'll look into the guy you referenced. The Intel quads are getting cheaper and cheaper, especially the older cores (that work great with OSX).

and Paul gilbert's rhythm is better in my opinion than eddie's.
xuix4life 1 month ago
@xuix4life That could be a point of endless debate, but those jazz guys would disagree. They would call Gilbert a "scale player" who plays mostly straight 16th notes. I think what makes EVH so remarkable is his rhythm syncopation. His turnarounds in "Unchained" alone are noteworthy.
PixxyLixxx 1 month ago
@PixxyLixxx Haha, I'm not talking about his crazy solos, He keeps better rhythm than any guitarist I know :) Check out his early work with racer x, like "Gone Too Far" or his anything from the Technical Difficulties album, like "Miss Mistreater". Paul really doesn't get enough recognition:(

HiOctane62 1 month ago
Hey man, just wondering, is there a big difference between your guitar and a real gibson?
xuix4life 1 month ago
@xuix4life Absolutely. The Chinese ones are ok, but they aren't nearly as nice as a real Gibson LP, especially the hardware and electronics. The Chinese ones are cool to fool around with, but for a professional musician (especially one that can deduct equipment expenditures) a real Gibson is probably the better path.
PixxyLixxx 1 month ago
Try the Elixir Polywebs, depending on your problem they'll last you MUCH longer. I'm talking YEARS. I actually love the sound of that Less Paul but looks like a Les Paul.
TheGargoyleLives 1 month ago
@TheGargoyleLives I tried them and they did last longer, but it's not just the oxidation that kill strings for me. I press fairly hard and over the course of a few weeks I'll actually get raised bumps in the string at each fret. That kills the intonation, so even if they don't break, they lose their ability to be tuned accurately. So I'm back to quantity over quality. It's just a pain in the ass to change them so frequently.
PixxyLixxx 1 month ago
@PixxyLixxx Well I guess I'd try hitting the strings softer. Good playing btw!

it's funny when you speak of good rhythm players I tend to think of Malcolm Young, who is overshadowed by Angus Young in ACDC. whats impressive there is two very connected players, it's almost like a comedy act where you have the straight guy and the comic crazy
leokimvideo 1 month ago
@leokimvideo I think of the other brothers -- Alex and Ed -- just like Malcolm and Angus. They seemed to be joined at the hip, musically at least. I saw AC/DC in '81 and '85 and they were great both times.

@leokimvideo Yeah, the "digital dust" had built up over time. It was time for a cleaning! I can build these systems in my sleep, so it was just one evening to wipe it out and start again. my question is how do you get away without swapping pickups outta all those china gibsons you have lol... the pickups in my china paul were total crap, too much feedback for distorted channels and almost no volume for clean channels
hbk123 1 month ago
@hbk123 I'm running a closed system, no live speakers other than my headphones. That's why I don't get feedback. When I try to use it with a live amp, it's a disaster. I'll change the pickups at some point, but for now it's working so I'll live with them until something breaks.
