Err watch the video. He isn't human, he's from the moon, from the Moon Tribe that was fucked up by Orochi. Remember the bamboo princess? She's from the same Moon Tribe, and that's the story of the Princess of the Moon in traditional japanese tales, and it appears in Sailor Moon too.

I have to say that through the majority of the game, I wasn't really sure if I liked Waka or not. But as it progressed, it was like he was growing on me.
