It's a clever ruse. My husband knew of the bird & why it acted the odd way it was. We began searching for the eggs and they were in plain sight. I have photos of the eggs, too. Unfortunately a storm washed away the nest one day, so all was lost.
A killdeer did that here locally and I also filmed it, but at the time didn't realize what it was doing. It just seemed odd, especially since the killdeer seemed to be trying to get me to notice it. It even moved towards me before doing the broken wing act. So I guess I must have been close to it's eggs as well. Didn't spot them though.
