Africans tend to be articulate, thankful, and even with the thickest of accents still speak better English than their domestic counterparts. Unfortunately, a few homeless people will get a bit too enterprising and cross the line by adding threats or outright violence to their begging routine. Back in 1992 at a Bronx train station, some homeless black guy casually displayed a pocket knife while asking me for money, and he went away after I gave him some change. Good thing he wasn't serious about using it and didn't demand my wallet.
