I like what you said. It's very true. You don't have to be religious in order to get good information from a religious book. The Bible does have some great guidelines on how to live you life. I myself am an Atheist. All you need to do is use your common sense and take the positive parts of the bible as a good little point in the right direction. Of course it has bad parts too, especially in the old testament. But nowadays, no one is really stupid enough to not be able to take out the bad stuff.

But I think the explanation for what you're pointing out is that all major organizations have to create a degree of sensibility in their rules, or people will simply not participate. It's in all world religions; there is a lot of practical advice mixed in.

Take out the miracles and you can learn that god is pretty vindictive+evil. You talk about parting the red sea. That's the old testament. What about the flood? what does that teach? What about god telling Abraham to sacrifice isaac.. then after traumatising the family like that said.. "no no - just a joke don't do it" This god character is pretty sick and twisted. Makes you wonder who is actually evil? god or satan? Who kills more ppl and for what reasons? Dare to think about that?

We can live a moral life without accepting fundamental Christian cosmology - concepts of a supernatural universal structure. Greed is selfishness - antisocial. Placing society before self is socialism. Emphasizing concern for others is humanism. Placing a Bronze Age tyrant-king in charge of the universe is not necessary for showing compassion to others.

I personally believe that religion ruined the world. Thats what most wars have been about. Wars are quite a bit bigger then financial problems.
