Great shots, Karen! I've tried to get them to eat out of a small red plastic lid in my hand, but they would never come to anything except a feeder. Maybe I should leave some little red lids filled with nectar lying around so they could get used to it... I'm sure I'd have plenty of ANTS then too!
Hello Karen,Sorry I have no pictures of hummers now but I do have photos of mourning doves in my living room who had came thru open patio door to feed from my hand.
Congrats Karen! I knew it was only a matter of time before you tried this. Isn't it a real adrenaline rush? We have Allen's visiting now but have not seen a rufous. Seems like the migration is down this year.
Yep, have seen Russlouky's videos. I joined a hummingbird club and he is a member. He takes really good stills too... If you are interested, email me and will send you club name to join. ~~ Karen
Karen that is too cool! I know you must have loved it so. It was a gift of nature. Thank you for linking to my Hummer video. I know it's a trill to see that wonderful little bird.
Nice job! I can relate to the feeling one gets hand feeding these little guys. My experience was with a bump billed bird, she could not easily drink from the feeder as her bill was just an odd shape. She was a neat friend, she's gone a way for now, but.. I am sure she'll return.
Nice sequence. I once had the same experience as EdwardKT. I've never tried hand feeding them yet. I do know than any sudden movements or noises will send them scurrying away in an instant.
Thank you for the compliment. Yes you do have to be totally still...It was kind of hard to do in that sequence because the bees were buzzing all around my arm. What works for me is you have to have an established feeding area. Remove the feeders except for the one you hold. Let me know if you try this. Would be interested... ~~ Karen

That's cool! One time when I was carrying a feeder a hummingbird came and started drinking from it. I wish I had a camera at that time.
