  • Love it,was my dream to go to the OpenAir Concert but my parents don't let me go,was very sad!!!

  • LOL, drums falling apart 3:58

  • hahahaaa - the fool on the bagpipes shows the badest playback in bagpipe history. He isn't even able to hold it properly. Must be his first time to touch one.

  • "I say you chaps, that was really rather good wasn't it?"

  • Muuuhahaha, would you believe it....

    Let's see:

    Hair: Mullet - check!

    Pants: Leather - check!

Shirts: some ridiculously colourful - check!

Glasses: ugly as hell - check!

Background: filled with Poppers - check!

once again, Hair: MULLET!!! - check!

    yep, must be 80's.........

But that MUSIC is as GREAT as it ever gets!

  • AT 3:58 THE DRUMMERS SYMBOL FALLS OFF ITS STAND WHEN HE HITS IT LOL

  • where is that? i come freom germany ;D

  • @Wingligig Hamburg - Volksparkstadion Friday Juli 3 - 1987

  • oh gosh I love his hair ;)

  • im glad this song was played while i was playing gta iv

    totally forgotten this one

  • one hit wonder..... but what a one hit wonder he was!

  • @Paganbeliever John Farnham had half a dozen nuumber 1 hits, his first in the 60's and his last in the 00's. One hit wonders don't do that.

  • lol. in some parts you're right. telling me, letting others listen to their music and so on. the other part: blind guardians are no "real" artists. i admit sum months passed and what is said was not that correct but yeah who cares i like the fake version better but even the "joke" version sounds at least a bit good. but youve also no right calling bg as none-artist. whatever...

  • love this song always goes down well in my eyes

  • For bonus trivia, the bass player and backing vocalist is Wayne Nelson, who played for The Little River Band during Farnham's stint as lead singer (while Glenn Shorrock was on break for a few years).

  • @PeGaSuS958 end of July!!!

  • AWESOME SONG!!!

  • @PeGaSuS958

Munich, Reitstadion Riem, German Television Production "ROCKPOP IN CONCERT", 1987/08/23

  • this is one of those songs that makes you happy to be alive, emotional and inspiring

  • Damn this guy has an awesome, powerful voice. It always impresses me when singers are this great live. In the studio you can sometimes fix mistakes and do all kinds of tricks but you can tell Farnham naturally has it.

  • I had forgotten this amazing piece of music and even more amazing vocals.. This was an anthem for a better world! IF only...

  • thank you youtube !!!

  • Thats handmade Rock Music ! Not that shit of the casting shows nowadays !!! Epic ! JF rules !!! Regards from germany

  • He was really good live.

  • this should be the anthem of the world

  • Very powerful voice, he sings that difficult song with so much ease...

  • @PeGaSuS958 1987 - June or July.

  • @FreeTheRocks my birth year =)

  • jesus, what an incredible singer

  • Great voice! "Great" hair!

  • perfect, super.

  • perfect

  • Blind Guardian sucks ! John rocks and rules. There is nothing more to say !

  • @Didi140276 Wowowow. Let's not go that far. They're both spectacular at what they do. I think that's more fair huh?

  • lol, coming from a person who does not know, why there is white stripe's shit on my channel - even if there is no need for justification of mine - i was bored and if you can hear it there are many mistakes in it cause it is REAL shit and nothin special ;). i wonder myself that i didnt delete it yet. but alright a presumable adult who cannot live with criticism starts to insult real artists (blind guardian) or even their fans :), good one, go on my friend <3

  • @filmfan555 Here's an idea. Go find a Blind Guardian video and spew how wonderful they are on THAT video....that way you are SURE to find an agreeable audience.

  • @FreeTheRocks Go search the blind guardian cover.. It is absolutely terrible.

  • @filmfan555 ...lol..Blind Guardians version is a joke in my opinion...and my prediction is that most people would agree with me...but that doesnt matter really as its all about what u like. Keep listening to the stuff u like and let others listen to the REAL artists...who actually write the originals.

  • lol, blind guardian's cover is way better.

  • @filmfan555 Coming from a person who has white stripes shit on their channel....that cover version must be a real piece of shit.

  • Grande pezzo e Gran Voce, niente da dire!!

  • en liten del av musiken på 80 talet vad... ja man nynnade med ock fest stämmningen blev bra ...kram på er

  • that clashing synthasised drum in the beginning is Michael Jackson's heart beating under the stage.

  • @zorrow78 Its true they recorded his heart from the thriller album and put it in the synthasiser hahah

  • This is a fucking awesome song and a great performance indeed.

But watch at 4:00 ... the drummer is loosing something xD...but still this is LIVE!!!

  • My daddy taped this when this was aired on TV in Germany back then. I think, one of my first memories regarding TV ans music is watching this when I was three or four years old.

  • scheisse dä singt ja live huärä geil!!!!!!

  • Mr.Farnham IS the best live performer ever.First time i ever heard about Farnham was back in the mid 80's.Im still a huge huge fan. The Voice!

  • Awesome song.

  • @whessly Wow....today 23 years ago.

  • @whessly July 1987....I think July 3rd to be exact...Hamburg.

  • What a bunch of haircuts! Love it!

  • legend!

  • LEGEND!!!!

  • Wow...all of you bitching about small things that went wrong in the performance should just stop. Its really sad that you can't sit here and enjoy how great his voice is compared to 90% of the music today. People need to learn that how good an artist is does not depend on how well their performances go, but how many people they can touch with their songs. And the bagpipe is actually being played, learn something about the bagpipe before you try and comment on how he is faking it.

  • @A7XFANFORLIFE100 Once again....if you look at your screen just before they show the bagpipe player....you will see the keyboard player playing the bagpipe solo on his "Key-Tar". Nobody in their right mind will pay to bring a bagpipe player from Australia to tour Europe FOR ONE BAGPIPE SOLO. They will however throw a bagpipe and a Scottish looking outfit in with their gear and get a crew member to fake the bagpipe solo. Use your head.

  • @A7XFANFORLIFE100 First off, A7X owns! Second, I totally agree, this song and Farnham's voice is absolutely epic!!! I can't get over how great and moving this song is, and you're right: PEOPLE NEED TO JUST ENJOY THE MUSIC!!

  • such a lift me up song

  • Kαταπληκτικό το τραγούδι και η παρουσία του John Farnham!!! Aπλά ανατριχιάζεις!!!

  • watt n´Horst bei 0.30

  • At 4:00 see the drummer... LOL

  • it aint the keyboard player playin the bagpipes you farkwit, there is HEAPS of track through out the song. & thats okay.

  • @ness321ify

his song is HUGE in holland, hear it every saturday, but no one knows who sings it XD

  • hahaah @1:20-1:29 just a random commercial airliner but it looks so inspirational with that back ground

  • he didnt even write this bad boy

  • Amazinng performance!!...there seems to be a spirit of freedom and being alive there. Wish i were there.

  • What a great, natural singing voice he's got.

I totally forgot about him for the last 15 years. Even the guys I forget about are 100 times better than today's crappy singers.

    How I miss the 80's.

  • Looks a little like the "MEKKA" in Turkey;)

  • The harmony at 5:25 blows my tits off everytime.

  • Tremendo playback el del gaitero

  • Que temazo!!!! un grande lejos...

  • never knew he was big in germany!

  • 3:59 - one of the drumkit cymbals is falling down! :D See the right side of screen ;)

  • John has one helluva voice! Great song, mate. :)

  • This melody is wonderful, and I like Farnhams voice.

It was a great hit here in germany, I'll never forget

this times . Thank you FreeTheRocks !!!

  • fala sério!!!!

  • Bagpipes makes me cry so beautiful. :D

  • Bagpiper is playback... schnacker is right.. pity. Cool song & nice performance anyway.

  • @HappyTreeMate No....the bagpipe solo is actually the keyboard player.

  • HappyTreeMate, stop think you know everything, just watch and enjoy, is that to much to handle? Idiot..

  • Holy sh**, do you suffer from the tourret syndrom? Ever heard of netiquette.. ?! It is playback, what's wrong to say that? And I mentioned because the pipe almost dropped the bagpipe.

  • @HappyTreeMate Actually watching a bagpipe player is NOT like watching a flute or saxophone player. Their mouth actions never match what they are playing. All the mouth(pipe) is doing is blowing up the bag under their arm. And once again the keyboard player is playing the bagpipe solo....it's not pre-recorded.

  • Oh Lord, How great! Love this song!

  • Notice at 3:59 how the drummer knocks his splash cymbal off?

  • :D:D great!!!! omg...

  • hahahaha

  • Thank you very much for posting this video :) I love his voice, it´s amazing! I think this is on of the best live performances I have ever seen! What a talent! Does anyone know, has this concert been released on dvd?

  • what the fuck... theres quite some things going wrong in this performance... the bagpiper wasnt really playing... then the mic stand is falling down... and then the fuckin cymbal

  • The bagpipe player taught Britney everything she knows....Farnham is known for tossing and "almost catching" mic stands...thus trashing many...and this performance was from a festival where the stage setups were fast and furious and some things like a wingnut on a cymbal on a (then) minor, unknown performer's drummer's (probably) borrowed kit are bound to be overlooked.

Can you perform like ANYONE on this stage...including the drum tech OR the bagpipe player?

  • OMG he is amazing!! I love this song and this man. He is still my favourite singer. John Farnham rocks!!

  • he is singing you're the voice and i'm saying WHAT A VOICE

  • Yep the cymbal falling off is pretty funny, but the fact that the bagpiper is not really even playing disturbs me as a beginning piper....what's the point? Nonetheless, a great song and an amazing voice....

  • AMAZING!! :)

    lol at the cymbal!

  • amazing song, symbol fell over dats gr8!!

  • you mean Cymbal**

  • achtung ikleich hendker heineken

  • John Farnham the man, The best singer in the world, a voice that can't be matched then and still today...

  • lol, at 3:59 you see one of the symbols fall off XD

  • He has an amazing voice. This just made me shit my pants.

  • Thats why its an awesome language.

  • oh my god, how foolish that some people really thing, germans can't understand english =S.. Im from the netherlands.. We learn hollands-english-german-french at school..

  • Spechen Sie Dutch?

    :):):)

  • Dutch = Hollands

    Deutsch = german

Und Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch, en ik spreek gewoon nederlands, je parle un pue francais and I speak english.. good enough?

  • Sprechen Sie Dutch was a joke....:):):):)

  • ohhh ;D

  • Lol german dutch, french and english. i think you have him trumped

  • Ever watched the Eurovision song contest?

Most songs are sung in English no matter what country they come from.

  • Germans understand more English than Americans understand German that's for sure...:):):)

Germany gets almost the same Top 40 crap that America and Great Britain get....with some German artists thrown in for good measure.

  • Do you think Michael Jackson, Elvis, The Rolling Stones or even Lady Gaga learn all of their songs in German....and Polish....and Russian....and Japanese when they do a world tour?

  • I dont know about the rest of them But the Rolling Stones just altered the kind of drugs and alcohol they were on depending which country they were in and then the locals could understand them perfectly.

  • lol to that

  • Because he is not German.

  • i cant wait till teh one is perth october 14th and 15th

  • Unfortunately in Mexico we live in fear down the barrels of many guns, the politicians does nothing, the society its quiet, we dont understand that we are the voice..

  • god i cant wait for his concert later this year, pity it took him so long to work up hes stage presence or he would be even more famous

  • This video is fucking epic.

  • just heard of him today sooo talented

  • Well there was a lot of terrible stuff from those 80s kings and queens of poodle-rock - but this is something else - shivers down the back of the neck. What an amazing song.

  • wow!:D

  • Amazing, it's looks almost effortless! He makes singing amazingly well look easy! He's very talented

  • If there was ever a good song to over sing this would be a good pick! ... Other Strong vocals ... Paul Stanley (Kiss) and Roger Daltry (The Who)

  • I can't believe people put Freddie Mercury above John Farnham....:):)

  • Farnham was definitely more talented vocally than freddie mercury, But freddie mercury was in a different league of showmanship, Mercury expressed every note with his body also, Farnham does it too You know he means it, Just not as effective as working the stage and he never really encourages the audience constantly which freddie did

  • hahah well he wont be using that crash piece lol

  • he looks like craig mclachlan

  • i love the 80 s

  • John Farnham's voice is an instrument of almost effortless precision.

  • More like Johns the voice, what an amazing vocal, especially on the chorus. Pure rock.

  • lmao did u see the crash piece fall of the drum kit @ 3:59

  • lol at 3:59, never saw that happen before.

  • I just saw that then.

  • x2. Unreal.

  • Well no hate mail can be sent for merely pointing hout a fact, but I would say that home is where the heart is. My dad for example was born in Bristol but is always thrilled when Australia wins the Ashes.

  • Yep....Munich 1987.

    Do a YouTube search for:

Tina Turner • Two People [Live In München 1987]

and you'll see the same stage setup but later at night.

  • It was a festival tour. I believe it was called "Tina Turner and Friends".

  • Best guess...around July of 1987.
