I've owned 4 different nes systems, every one of them has blinked when there was no game cartridge inserted in the system. So, mattclarkemusic is correct.

And to elaborate, I have a NES from 1989, which does flash when there's no game in, or a game that doesn't make a full connection (due to dirty edge connectors).

I own a nes console and it only blinks when the lockout chip is damaged. when the console blinks it shuts itself off and on repeatedly when the LED Flash blinks, it never blinks when there is no cartridge, when it has the blinking problem even when the cartridge is in it still blinks, oh, i am also a genius :)

Cut one of the legs of the lockout chip & it never blinks again, also has a nice side-effect of removing regional lockout.

lol u use q-tips n rubbing alcohol or windex to clean the ends of the pins on carts. if u didn't know that u dont know games. u can do this on all cart based systems. they work n last longer then new disc based systems.

very nice job. I have a few mods myself too, but they are not cosmetic at the moment. I dont want to mess up and make a good system look horrible. The plexi glass looks cool with the blue LED shining.

it blinks because of the security lockout chip.

you can disable it easily if you search in google "how to disable nes security lockout chip" and youll find detailed instructions.(i did this to mine and it works alot better)
