guy like Eager who play 3 minutes per game just to fight are a major reason the fighting debate exists. While fighting as retaliation is necessary in hockey, fighting for the sake of fighting is ridiculous. Furthermore, if you want to keep fighters safe, see 0:51 into the video, Eager's head is trapped, there's no room for punches, it's a head injury waiting to happen. Fight NEEDS to be stopped there.

I was referring to guys LIKE Eager whose main job on the team is to drop the gloves. Every team has those guys. In Montreal's last game, George Laraque was last on the team in TOI, Donald Brashear in Washington was 2nd last in TOI (by 10 seconds). Their role is to fight and it's not hockey. Get these guys out of the game

Eager has 8 goals and 4assists. He's a fourth liner who knows his role of getting the team fired up with hits and fights. but also knows how to score. He sticks up for his teammates and contributes to his team.

You're right, it is necessary. It gets the players motivated, it gets the fans pumped, and it creates rivalrys. As far as banning fighting, which they've been talking about for years now, I think would be an atrocious move. Tensions run high in hockey and fighting is a great way to let out some of that emotion.

let's not forget, MLB and NBA have already banned fighting yet every year we still see bench clearing brawls throughout the league at some point or another. And they're not contact sports. Banning fighting won't stop it, it will make it worse

If an opposition player hits your best player, you respond...just like Semenko did for Gretzky and Probert and Kocur did for Yzerman...what the league needs to look at are those stupid pre-arranged fights, where 2 guy's talk at a face-off...they are not "traditional" or "necessary".
