Is there any way to wire the preemption system so that the traffic lights turn to a certain sequence? Also, are the traffic lights automatically switched?
@FireAce44 Actually, the lights should just flash red, while the parallel lights would flash yellow. That would allow traffic approaching the crossing to turn left or right onto the parallel road, after stopping for conflicting traffic.
@rpmangin Most states do a track-clearance-green style pre-emption now, where the cars that would be stopped on the crossing, if they happen to do so, would be given a green light until the gates are down... and then the traffic signals works in a limited sequence until the crossing signals are deactivated. A few states still do flashing sequences for traffic signal pre-emption, but it's really getting increasingly rare.
@fgossage Still, a limited sequence style should only be used if all sides have protected left-turn phases, so that all traffic movements that don't conflict with the train can proceed.
That was pretty cool! Nice Job!

Traffic lights should remain red too. A few logic gates and this would be easy.

Hey Chris its Todd R from (OMR) land, where did you get opticom signals for your traffic lights for the set-up? Thats really cool and realistic.
BFI213 2 years ago
Its actually just an additional flasher hooked up to the detection unit. I wish there was an easy way to actually create a preemption unit.
