Fair thee well old joe clark Fare thee well I say Fare thee well Old Joe clark Aint got long to stay." But.. I guess I can learn this one too.. its catchy(x

  • I love the Rosinators! Best version.

  • I'm an English Clark and never knew this song existed till I met some distantly related American family.

I like to think this song is about a relative. :D

  • our vocal class has 2 sing this but just parts of it cause its mixed wit soldiers joy and sail away laides

  • John Hartford put an advertisement in his version:

I need and old Orpheum 5-string with a 12 inch open back pot

So next time you're up in the attic take a look and see what you've got.

Or a twelve inch Farland open-back, 28 and 3 eighth inch scale

Sure wish you'd write and let me know if you've got one for sale

    Another of his verses said:

Everyone says,"Right on, Far out!" then stands around and laughs,

Guess I'd better say it too or Joe might kick my ass.

  • I used to sing this for kids. Their favourite verses were the one that The Rosinators sing that goes:

I went down to Old Joe's house, he invited me to supper

I stubbed my toe on the table leg and stuck my nose in the butter.

    and

Don't go down to Old Joe's house, tell you the reason why,

He blows his nose on old corn bread and calls it pumpkin pie.

  • the one i learned was old joe clark he had a house 20 stories high and every story in that house was filled with chicken pie round and around old joe clark round and around i say he'd follow me ten thound miles to here my fiddle play i went down to old joe clakrs he asked me i nto stay he slept on the feather bed and i slept on the hay round and around yeah u get it XD

  • I learned it was "Goodbye Lucy Long" not "Betsy Brown"

  • Old Joe Clark's a rough ol' man, mean as he can be

He knocked me down with his right hand and walked all over me.

Get out the way o' Old Joe Clark, hide that jug of wine

Get out the way o' Old Joe Clark, he's no friend of mine.

Old Joe Clark he used to be the biggest bum around

'Til Andrew Johnson appointed him the marshall of this town.

    I've forgotten the rest

  • "I went down to Old Joe Clark's, found him 'sleep in bed, stuck my fingers down his throat, pulled out a chicken head."

  • i learnd , " Old joe clarck was a good old man never done no harm said he wouldnt hoe my corn and spraun his banjoe arm, far u well old joe clark goodbye betsy brown far u well old jor clark farwell to the town

  • The version I leaarned when plunk plunga plunk for a while then went Old Joe clark was a good ol' man lived in tenness hollared up a country tune, banjo on his knee. CHORUS: Fare you well old joe clark good bye betsy brown, fareyou well old joe clark. Fare well to the town. Fare well to the town.

  • Realize: this song is not "wrong" You are all coming to a realization that there is no one uniform "old joe clark". It's had probably millions of various verses, you could even create your own if you were quick on your feet, and almost as many different choruses. Personally I'm partial to "Fare thee well, Old Joe Clark. Fare thee well I say. Fare thee well, Old Joe Clark. Ain't got time to stay"

  • My choir sang this, and we all had different parts, but none of them sounded like this. Mine went: 'Round and round, Old Joe Clark Round and Round Round and round Old Joe Clark' Ain't got long to stay Old Joe Clark he had a house, 16 stories High Every room in that house was full of chi-chicken pie! Round and round, Old Joe Clark, Round and round Round and round, Old jow Clark Ain't got long to stay Old Joe Clark had a father bed He got the bed And I got the floor! And so on. >>
  • Ok this is sooooooo different from the version my choir is learning.......

  • We're learning a song with 3 parts and the melodie is "old Joe Clark, he had a house 16 stories high, every story in the house was full of chicken pie' THats the 1st verse.

  • @OkamiFan1212 I know!!! Me too! This is soo wrong to what were gonna sing!!

  • @OkamiFan1212 Ours is "ev'ry story in the house smelled like apple pie"

  • The version we're learning is

went up to the mountain top to give my horn a blow thought i heard a pretty girl say yonder comes my beau

fare thee well old joe clark fare thee well im gone fare thee well old joe clark good bye lucy long

black bird in a wilow tree sings a mornfull song i wont hear that song no more tomorow ill be gone

are thee well old joe clark fare thee well im gone fare thee well old joe clark good bye lucy long ...

  • were doing part of this songs in a mix of other ones we song "Old Joe Clark he had a house, 20 stories high, and every story in that house was filled with chicken pie. Round and around, Old Joe Clark Round and around I say He'd follow me 10,000 miles to hear my fiddle play. I went down to Joe Clark's house he asked me in to stay he slept on a feathered bed and I slept on the hay Round and around, Old Joe Clark Round and around I say He'd follow me 10,000 miles to hear my fiddle play."
