great demo. at first, I was like "sounds nice, but I could get any old Ampeg V4 or B25 to nail those tones..." but as he kept tweaking I kept thinking of all the practical uses I could have for such an amp as this. I give it a big ol' thumbs up.
***HELP*** Is there anyway to get a more even volume between the low and the high? It's either too quiet on the low if I set the high volume 1st, or too loud (on the high) if I set the low volume 1st. any suggestions would be GREATLY appriciated!! Thanks!!!
0:47 is psychologicly mindfucking us so we'd wanna buy Marshall. It's also done with Cola's etc in cinema's, bu-t kinda dissapointing PGS would also use certain 'mindtricks' to help the sales.
However, I could be wrong, I'm a great PGS/Andy-fan, but I just happened to see this and feel like this is a technique I wouldn't expect from you guys. If I am indeed wrong, you have all my genuine apologies!
@MrSkAtEfReAk12 i've watched this video a few times, but i didn't see that at 0:47 before. Untill i read your comment i didn't realize it was there. Funny...
@doctorgone The differance is in the pins...KT66 has a quicker break little more bass vs EL34 which has tons of mid gain, both are the same style pins and center plug...The KT88 is pretty much the same as a 6L6 with a differant breal up point.
All tubes have optional tubes to change out as long as the pins are the same...Swapping them effects the sound of the tone 100% especially if you can afford to experiament.
@n94krisa you would probably be better off with an amp with more gain for that sort of stuff. Like a Mesa Boogie Dual/Triple Rectifier or Peavey 6505.
@ThePhallystorm vm, if u want crazy metal tones, jvm, if u want in ur face, kickass tone, go vm, the jvm sounds pretty cheap tho, the vm is the best sounding amp ive ever heard, but ve never played threw a jcm800 or plexi
i have tried this amp in a shop and its horrible, it sounds nothing like a plexi or a jcm 800.....it is as thin as a wafer biscuit....its another marshall piece of junk, same as the shitty dsl amp....full on processed sound....I really sat and played around with it for a bit....but it sucks......if they were that good why does nobody use them...?
What are the settings at the beginning (Unchained!), including midboost and master volume? Sounds great!
@MegaFenderstrat The combo version has dynamic range and reverb foot switches, and from the reviews I've seen I think the other 2266 versions are the same.
my favorite marshall head. and i am usually in heavy rock and metal, but this amp just has something else that i really like. someday i will take one.
@MegaFenderstrat The chassis is definitely too long, and it looks like it might be a bit too tall, too. JMP chassis was about half the total length of the Vintage Modern (which is built to look like a JCM800) chassis is.
So it's a good idea, but unfortunately it wouldn't work : /
I believe Marshall Majors had kt88's....considering SRV and John Frusciante played majors I'd assume you could get a pretty convincing sound from this for their styles? I mean w/ the songs they played through these amps...obviously not lenny
great stuff man... thanks for the great demo!!! what kind of speakers are in that cab? my guess would be V30's but maybe Greenbacks? thanks for the response.
There doesn't seem to be many people who can play that Aerosmith song properly 3:33. I must record it for the good people. This is an alright amp. All the low range areas sound just spectacular... but for whatever reason when you cut in that high range with the boost switch on the pedal you get a ridiculously unnecessary amount of volume coming through. If you're cranking that low range plexi sound and push that boost the head will probably fall off. Wish they had a separate master.
Great demo. Showed a lot of different tones and settings most other vids don't. I'm buying one this week, and this vid helped make my decision. Thanks!!!!!
I own one of these and love it except one thing...it desperately needs a dedicated volume control for the second channel. The difference in volume from overdriven to clean will make you jump and then scramble for the volume control on your guitar. That said the tone is awesome and very modifiable. It was between this and the plexi 1987x and this just had more to offer IMHO.
@Mikeoo21 The Vintage Modern is not a two channel amp, it is a single channel amp with two dynamic ranges. It is meant to be played using your guitar volume control (old School) to dial in the tones. In the right hands the best sounding Marshall today.
@meticadpa the mg100 aint that bad. it isnt as good as a tube, but mine is capable of really nice warm tones with the help of a digitech gnx in the fx loop and a digitech rp500 running into the front end.
I know this amp isnt advertised as doing rock really but i think its a great head for the early kinda rock. I think Led Zep would sound great played through this amp.
@MrLordshanks Marshall have always been rock machines. Andy is mainly playing classic 70's tunes to show this as well. You are right, Zep and Marshall go hand in hand. Thanks for watching!

@freiture Hey, I'm basically looking for the same sound. It sounds like the Vintage Modern is damn good, along with 1959SLP reissue, and maybe the JVM205H. If you find out something let me know. For Van Halen-kinda stuff, you should also make sure you have a pickup that's gonna give plenty of output,.
@ProGuitarShopDemos is it possible to play Guns N Roses on it? Or Iron Maiden? Or with extra gainy pedals some Megadeth? because I love that crunchy 70s tone... and I think I wouldnt get this kinda tone from the JCM800 and perhaps this is more versatile than JCM
@MrLordshanks I've gotten a vintage modern head to do a pretty good late 80's, early 90's type death metal tone, so it doesn't really stop at early hard rock such at Led Zeppelin. :) (And no, I'm not talking a scooped mids, no-balls crappy death metal tone, I'm talking boosted mids, classical roar, tear your face off Marshall death metal tone.)
@Strateuphoria The switching is not your typical clean-dirty channel. It basically switches between Vintage and Modern Marshall amp types. So, a volume increase is expected when you increase gain and the body of the tone.

@QuadroGuitarist You probably saw only the cabinet without the head. Which isn't an amplifier, just speakers in a box. XD
