Jeckina, I try to leave a long enough tail so that I can sew up a side seam when the piece is finished. Or, if you are knitting in the round like for a sock, you can trim that tail piece down to about 6 inches. Then, when you have finished knitting the garment, you weave this tail piece of yarn into the back of the work for about an inch to secure it and hide it from view. Trim the excess close to garment.
Thank you, this video was very helpful! However, I would like to know what to do when I'm done casting on? I have a little bit of a tail left and it seems like it should get cut or tied off before I begin my stitches... no one seems to cover this in-between step =/
Thank goodness I found this video! I know how to knit b/c I've been knitting (the same scarf) for years lol! I started it sophomore year in high school about 6 years ago XD. Anyway, I forgot how to cast on. I looked at pictures that were zero help, but this was great. I don't know what people are complaining about b/c I could see just fine. Doesn't make the words any less annoying though lol. THANK YOU! =)
would have like to see more stiches done from the front angle rather than over the top. Thank you very much for answering my question about how long to make the tail. I have watched several videos and none have addressed that so specifically. I really appreciate that.
Thank you! You went slow enough with this that I was finally able to figure out how to do this method of casting on! My Aunt tried to show me in person, but got frustrated with me and just cast on for me. Now I can do it myself!
my gandma tought me how to knit but I never understood the casting on so this helped a lot
