I lined up outside Best Buy at 7PM the night before the Wii went on sale....and that wasn't even an important event. These people were trying to get a spot for a once in a lifetime event....lol..II guess they really didn't care to put to much effort into watching the inauguration.
The ONLY reason I made it in..was to not heed that cops advice...I made it out of the mob somehow and went further east..up to the yellow gate..and finally made it in!! Glad you posted..I'm having flashbacks
Whew. I had to cross 1st on D during a morning-long effort to get to my parade seats. I'm lucky to have traversed that crowd and come out in one piece. I was trying to walk east, but the press of people pushing south was slowly but surely carrying me along with them. Scary part is, I could see that if I drifted too far south, I'd hit a fence that would have trapped my eastbound progress. Leaving me no options but to backtrack northbound (against all those people??) or spend the day stuck there!
Maybe you don't understand? The people in this video were invited guests tot he inauguration. We all had tickets. We got ours from our Senator. Many worked hard for 2 years on Obama's campaign.
I do understand. It's very unfortunate that even though you were invited guests, and some had worked 2 years on Obama's campaign, it didn't work out for you. But with the millions seeking a "good spot" there were bound to be problems. Take it up with your Senator.
Anyway, most folks up here in Canada appreciate all the work you did and President Obama's victory.
Huge crowds! Wish everyone could have gotten in. Keep in mind this is the first time in about a hundred years the government even tried to include everyone.
We were there too at the same time -- on the sidewalk at the corner of 1st & D in front of that 400 building -- and never heard him at all! Saw the car but never heard the announcement or saw the cop. What a weird, weird thing!
we were there @ 1st & D St. when that occurred and that was the only crowd control that we witnessed as well.. - the issue is hard for people outside of the situation to understand - because I bet many people think that the crowds of 2 million people caused the disorganization and difficulty at ticket entrance gates. the officials completely botched their responsibility to get those ticketholders (240k) into the inauguration in an organized and efficient manner.
Well said oceanchilds2. I was there too(silver section). I eventually got out of line & was able to make it to the open mall area to witness the event. Had I stayed in line, I would have missed it. I saw satellite photos taken at 11:19am. & the silver section was far from full. Why were people standing in an incredibly long line when there was space for them.? You're right, the officials screwed up.
Either that, or they just didn't care about the lowly people with standing only tickets.
Oh shit. Now imagine if those people were zombies and you were the NYPD guy. Simple word for that. Your fucked. XD

It's too bad that those hordes of people didn't heed the preinauguration warnings and stay home and watch it on the internet or television. Or both.
