A phenomenal song. Eric has the voice of an angel. What a deep, intellectual song with such emotion. This proves there must be more to life than materialism. Beyond beauty,
The orchestral part is like a festival of life, as if life smiles you! (sorry for my english). la parte orquestal es como un festival de la vida, como si la vida nos sonriera. XD

Strange but I´ve been reading comments on Youtube and comments made on Moody Blues,APP and other "old" stuff are so much moore polite and friendlier, than comments on "new" stuff. Must be the music! Good music brings out the good in everyone! Thanks for posting!
It's odd to say, but the part you are talking about is my favourite of the song. It is such beautiful and weird at the same time. I just love this song. I listen to this album sometimes on a vynil.
I've always loved this song. one thing I never get is that why the middle instrumental section suddnely goes to such a happy, jollu, major scale with that weird 2/4 rhythm, etc.!
...cos no matter how sad your life is, there's always moments when u smile, friends who brighten up your day, strangers who giving u a few minutes of their time will make u believe in a better tomorrow... or maybe i'm just wrong!
I was a music minor in college, and understand that a lot of songs have breaks in them to show a contrast from the main theme. Since the verses are in a sad, minor key, the break is upbeat and lively to keep up the spirit. It's believed that noone wants to listen to a song that is totally somber, so the break is designed to give the listener a little relief. I agree that it is a little odd. I prefer the sad lonely verses. This my favorite Alan Parsons song!
For some strange reason, when I close my eyes I see this picture:
Medieval times, someone is sitting in a cellar when the sad part of the music is playing, then that someone runs away and runs through the city market/fair with fruit and chickens flying sideways, with that sort of funny music part to back it up. But in the end he gets caught and sent back to the cellar, him and silence...
Anyway that my weird interpretation of what I see when I close my eyes to this song.

Very nice song, we are playing this in our fanfare right now. I like the part between 3:11 and 3:38.
I like it because the sound of those french horns is so beautiful. Especialy the high notes from 3:25.

Maybe it is coz the listeners are older too?
Anyway this song is one out of my top 3 ever and I still have goosebumps when listening.
Maybe it is because I'm +40 Grinnnnnn

Even if the drawings don't always seem to go with words and music, a nice way to "tell" the song.

Why wasn't this song put in the Definitive Collection?
This has to be one of the most addictive and hypnotic of APP songs I've heard in all of APP history. I'd rank this above Eye in the Sky!

Very nice.
Although the portrait drawings may see a bit different than the song, the others are very good.
The two consecutive pictures at 3:40 and 3:47 are especially nice.
Good to see someone appreciate this APP classic.

If i cried out loud Over sorrows i've known
And the secrets i've heard It would ease my mind
Someone sharing the load But i won't breathe a word We're two of a kind
Silence and i We need a chance to talk things over
Two of a kind
Silence and i We'll find a way to work it out
